Or have to work! Work gets in the way of some serious reading time...Then again, if I didn't work, I wouldn't be able to read all the books...

It got me through a reading slump as I could listen to it on the way to work as I drove. So whenever I am in a slump or I know I have a lot of driving to do I download from my local library ( daughter introduced this to me) using Borrowbox.
Sharon wrote: "I've never listened to an audio. Don't think I'd enjoy it, but maybe one day I'll give it a go :)"It's not for me. If I am in the car driving or as a passenger with dh I have music on and sing along.
I'm currently reading and greatly enjoying 'Rain Dogs' by Adrian McKinty who is a Northern Irish crime fiction writer who resides in St. Kilda, Melbourne. I love Adrian's writing voice and I've read several of his books. After that I'm going to be reading 'Insidious Intent' by, in my opinion, the Queen of contemporary crime fiction writing, Val McDermid.

Thanks Noelene. I'll keep this in mind for the future 😊

I've get reading slumps at times, especially when I'm not feeling well - like recently. Sometimes the pain from the fibromylagia can't be overridden by the distraction from reading. Either way, I've found that reading something again that I loved before (favorite author), changing genres, or audio books usually do the trick. If not, I take a break and watch programs, movies (Netflix) or watch my favorite sports or tv programs without reading during all the commercials like I usually do!
Speaking of migraines, Sally, I received my new Kindle in the mail! I haven't read an entire book on it yet -will start one tonight or tomorrow - but from what I see so far I LOVE IT!!
Feeling better now and back to reading but I'm stressed as I'm about four books behind on reviews, but I'd rather be reading as I'm excited by my Nov. challenge books and I'm a little behind on those as well! Oh well, carry on, I say! =o)
Sharon wrote: "Being four books behind on reviews isn't too bad, Owl. I'm fourteen books behind 😱😱"You’re so funny Sharon :)
I’m just starting The Dark Lake, i noticed it’s on your list. Do you have a copy? If so.....let’s read!

There's no way in the world I'd remember them in detail to write the reviews Sharon!

Sorry no I don't have a copy 😞

Brenda, I keep a notebook close by when reading and jot down in point form or I wouldn't remember 😊

I'm just starting The Poison Principle by Gail Bell. This book has been hanging around my unit for nearly 10 years so time to knock it off the TBR pile.

I'm sorry to hear you've been unwell Owl. *hugs* I hope you're feeling much better now. :)
Yes, while I absolutely love reading to bits, with my serious eye condition and studying to be a teacher, it made it really hard for me to read something just for me. And my eyes got worse as time went on... and once I completed uni I just wanted to have some time away from books, even those books I love. It wasn't until I found out about audiobooks and e-readers that I began to read with a vengeance again. And I adore audiobooks in particular! And it wasn't until this year that I actually read a traditional paperback again, and I do try to read ones with a larger font if I can. :)
Anyway, I'm currently listening to Bloodstream by Tess Gerritsen. Loving it so far!
Sharon wrote: "Being four books behind on reviews isn't too bad, Owl. I'm fourteen books behind 😱😱"Bahaha! I can definitely relate Sharon! I'd be about that too.... well maybe not quite so many, but definitely around ten! LOL!
Finally finished Don Quixote after a long slog. Really enjoyed it, but in retrospect I should have researched which translation I wanted first. It just felt too modern in some ways. Oh well in 30 or so years I may try again! Now onto Green Rider, trying to tick off some books from the A-Z challenge.
Yes thanks, Kylie, I'm feeling much better as of late. I'm loving my new Kindle!
While I'm behind on the reviews I do make rough drafts as I read so it's not as bad as it could be!
Just when I get a couple of reviews done, I finish another book! Currently I'm reading three books at once so it's pretty slow going! It's not working out too well so I put one on hold as I was so excited to read a different book on my new Kindle! LOL!
About 60% through Raven Black by Ann Cleeves
It's my first full book on my new Kindle Paperwhite!
Not a trace of pain, head, eyes, or otherwise!
Thanks to Brenda for recommending this specific device and to Marlin who recommended a Kindle vs my tablet for reading!
I'm just tickled pink!

That’s great Owl😃
I've just picked up
Steam and Sensibility by Kirsten Weiss - I only got it because I needed a book with the word sensibility in it and as the Main Character is called Sensibility the word appears on nearly every page!!! LOLIt is a YA Historical Steampunk book set in the Callifornian Gold Rush days - and so far it is really, really good. Described as Magic, mayhem, and mechanicals - paranormal suspense at its best. So far living up to its label!! And there are two more books in the series to follow!!!

Yep! Me too!
I have over 300 books on my kindle that were on hold unless I was able to find a copy at the library!
Oh happy day! 🦉

It was good Anne!
Reading a bit of translated fiction, some Swedish noir crime, Clinch first in a trilogy by Martin Holmén. I'm enjoying it. I have the 2nd book in the trilogy Down for the Count also in my pile to read soon. But there is violence and a bit of explicit sex, so anyone wanting to avoid those shouldn't put this on their list.
I started Provenance by Ann Leckie on audio and The Sparrow byMary Doria Russell on my Kindle. Silly me - both are science fiction. When you are reading two books at the same time it is best when they are different genres!
just started listening to the audio book of Burial Rites and I'm really liking it so far! Beautifully written and I also like the voice of the woman who reads it, which doesn't happen very often, so that's so great!
Just started Penelope Goes to Portsmouth by Marion Chesney. (M.C. Beaton) This is the third book in the Travelling Matchmaker series. Light, fun reads.
I'm reading Michelle de Kretser's new book, The Life to Come. It's the kind of book you can happily get lost in. Luckily I'm a slow reader so I can spin it out for a few more days.

That's what I find - not that I often read two together but they definitely need to be different genres ;)

I have just finished The Rules Do Not Apply by Ariel Levy. It was a nomination in the memoir category for the Good Reads Choice Awards. I enjoyed this really outstanding book, though it was written by someone I had never heard of.
Phrynne wrote: "I started Provenance by Ann Leckie on audio and The Sparrow byMary Doria Russell on my Kindle. Silly me - both are science fiction. When..."LOL!
I'm reading Covet by Tara Moss. I read the first two in this series a good 10 years ago, so it's taken me a little bit to re-familiarise myself with Makedde's story, but I like how Tara's added enough in so that someone who hasn't realised it's part of a series can finish it without necessarily going to find the first two. I'm also listening to, (and nearly finished this one), Rich Girl, Poor Girl by Eileen Ramsay.
I'm starting The Heroine's Bookshelf: Life Lessons, from Jane Austen to Laura Ingalls Wilder by Erin BlakemoreHoping to squeeze in one more book before the December and Summer challenges.
I'm currently reading Walden by Thoreau. The beginning was very interesting, there are many good things in each chapter in the middle, so it's worth reading. But it could be half shorter.
