Margot (jutta1) | 233 comments Just finished Stasiland by Anna Funder and am about to start The Ice Beneath Her by Camilla Grebe.

message 1453: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 2164 comments Yesterday I started reading Craven by Melanie Casey. It's a bit unusual for me to read 2 books by the same author in such a short space of time, but Hindsight was sooo good, I was compelled to find out what happens next. Loving it - and ripping through it - so far.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments I'm really enjoying The Marsh King's Daughter, FYI of anyone who's got it on their TBR...

message 1457: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Terranova | 5 comments I'm almost through When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi by Paul Kalanithi, a true account of when a neurosurgeon becomes a patient with terminal cancer. A thought-provoking read, but sorry not Australian.

message 1458: by Zoey (new)

Zoey (rozannen) | 1045 comments Bit of a reading coincidence. One of the ladies I work with was downloading some pics to use as her background on her computer & she chose a group of nice snowy/wintery scenes. One was a lovely snow covered city scene that we both thought was beautiful & wondered where it was. Looked it up & it was a city called Plovdiv (never heard of it) in Bulgaria. Come lunch time & I am listening to my current audio read Fear in the Cotswolds & the main character meets a young girl that is originally from Plovdiv in Bulgaria :)

Haha! That's awesome Zoey! These coincidences keep on happening with our reading, don't they!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments got a bit of a marsh thing going: my last read was The Marsh King's Daughter and now I am reading Marsh and Me, LOL

message 1461: by Ryan (new)

Ryan I just started Authority by Jeff VanderMeer, book two in the Southern Reach trilogy.

message 1462: by Alik (new)

Alik I've been waiting for Beartown by Fredrik Backman to come to my local library. According to the alert I received this morning, it is being released in Australia under the title of The Scandal.

message 1463: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Zoey and Marianne, spooky book coincidences.

My library has just notified me that they have Beartown ready for me. They must have purchased a copy published overseas.

message 1465: by Ace (new)

Ace (aceonroam) I thought I'd just check on Overdrive if the Brisbane Library has it as Beartown or The Scandal. No hits for Beartown. Many hits for the scandal it almost looks like porn. I didn't check through all 5 pages to see if any of them were by Fredrik Backman!

It's a great book, I listened to it on Audible a while back. Highly recommended anything by this author.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Reading Already Dead by Jaye Ford... see, now this is why I always always always drive around with my doors locked (thankyou, central locking), even on the shortest trips. I heard somewhere that it strengthens the body of the car if you are in a crash too...

That's impressive isn't it Phrynne? I remember having to get one of my local libraries to purchase The Rosie Project! Luckily I found a neighbouring council library that is a little more proactive.

message 1473: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4428 comments I am really liking this one from work Save-My-Life School: A first responder's mental health journey Save-My-Life School A first responder's mental health journey by Natalie Harris . I keep requesting the new ones, and this one is good, but really should be for the paramedicine students. I'm trying to read it quickly to get it to those who it was intended for. Love to find these ones that I would have never seen otherwise. Based on blog entries so very easy to read.

You've reminded me to get to this one, Marianne. I love what I've read of hers so far. She's a local author to Brenda, isn't she?!

message 1475: by Diana (new)

Diana (secondhandrose) | 73 comments I'm just starting From the Outer: Footy Like You've Never Heard It Want to get this read for the Winter Challenge and to send to my sister in the US.

message 1476: by Kylie (new)

Kylie (kyliemaree) | 878 comments Getting back to The Three Miss Allens by Victoria Purman after finishing all my library books. This one is for the Winter Challenge. :)

Still listening to Katie Mulholland by Catherine Cookson on the Borrow Box app via my local library. Almost half way through this epic saga!

message 1477: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Maddox (sarahmaddox) | 42 comments I've suspended reading The Son by Jo Nesbø for a while. It seems long and rather visceral, and I've lost track of the hero's motivation. For some light relief, I turned to The Visitor by Lee Child. Serendipitously, it's an immediate follow-on from Tripwire, which I've just finished. I'm on holiday, and happened to have both books in my bag without knowing the sequence.

message 1478: by Kylie (new)

Kylie (kyliemaree) | 878 comments I frequently stop and start books too Sarah. Usually it's because I've gone a little overboard when visiting the library and need to get going on those books rather than my own collection. :)

And how awesome was that, you getting two books in a series in concurrent sequence without consciously checking! Bonus! :)

message 1479: by Li'l Owl (last edited Jun 20, 2017 07:41AM) (new)

Li'l Owl | 2504 comments I'm glad you say that, Sarah. It's very unusual for me to find a book that I struggle with but I came across one this month that I just haven't been interested enough to continue right now. I'm on vacation and I've got soo many books that I know I'll love so I set it aside for now. The only problem with that is it's part of my choices for a challenge to be finished by the end of this month! I've read 50% of it but it took me forever to get that far! So now I'm behind on the others I have to to finish, too! It didn't help that we had company we don't usually have and, if I'm honest, I'm not fond of them either, so that cut into my reading time as well which makes me a little grumpy. I may end up choosing something else but then I'd have to read the entire thing verses the last 50%! They're leaving tomorrow fortunately but I'm going to have to read very fast for the next week! Grrr!
Oh well. Challenges are just for funzies, but still! =o)

Hallo Kylie, Bonus indeed! I've often said that it doesn't matter much if I read such books out of sequence. But now I notice how much pleasure I get from following the extended story.

Carolyn | 9837 comments I'm enjoying the new book by Michael Robotham, The Secrets She Keeps.
It starts off a bit like a Liane Moriarty, with two pregnant women going about their lives and looking forward to having their babies and I thought what is going on here? but it soon becomes something a little darker :)

This reminds me of something my book loving Auntie told me. Apparently if she had a great book she would read all day but spray Mr Sheen around and the family would come home and say how tidy the house was!
