Joanna (walker) | 2307 comments What about Umberto Eco?

He wrote novels - The Name of the Rose
And nonfiction - On Literature

Does satire count for short stories: Misreadings
This is a collection of parodies by the author of The Name of the Rose and Foucault's Pendulum.

That specific title is classified as non-fiction not stories.

Hi Deedee, seems she has several poetry and short story collections, so good to go!

The forms need to be in books, so her poetry (or columns) would have to have been included in an anthology with other authors to work. If you can find such, she would certainly work.

I was just trying to find anything for Don on that front, but not coming up with anything yet!

Rosemary | 4299 comments John Steinbeck - it says novels, short stories and non-fiction in his GR profile, and there's a list here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_St...

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14245 comments Yes, for both Danielle Dutton and John Steinbeck. Rosemary, you know to be cautious about Steinbeck and the YA/Lexile rule.

message 371: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 4299 comments Yes, thanks! I'm claiming The Grapes of Wrath, which is on the Canon. I'm amazed it's only 680 lexile points. It must be something about Steinbeck's writing style.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14245 comments Rosemary wrote: "Yes, thanks! I'm claiming The Grapes of Wrath, which is on the Canon. I'm amazed it's only 680 lexile points. It must be something about Steinbeck's writing style."

Yes, I think his vocabulary is often not especially challenging nor is his sentence structure. But we ignore Lexile for those on the Canon, so you're good with that.

Louise Bro | 477 comments Will Becky Chambers work for this?

She has written the novel The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet as well as published essays and a short story?

It's a great, queer space opera by the way. Dealing more with the relations between people of different backgrounds than actually techy geekery (which I also enjoy, by the way)

Probably. Do you have an example?

Rebekah (bekalynn) http://www.sarahwaters.com/about/
In the last paragraph, it is stated she co-wrote an original stage show with Christopher Green

Her academic work has been published in journals only, but there is her PhD thesis, which traditionally had to be submitted in a book form (although not published in the sense of submitting to a publishing house). Not sure how true this is now as my husband's PhD was submitted electronically, but I do believe that the library of the University where study was undertaken must have a hard copy.

Not sure that this will help.

message 382: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah (bekalynn) I was thinking of her academic work, I didn't realize she was only published in journals.
