5★ for Blood Meridian, or the Evening Redness in the West by Cormac McCarthy, one of the most gruesome stories with the most beautiful descriptions of the American southwest. Marauding scalphunters.
Only McCarthy can have you glorying in language one minute and turning away in horror the next. Who needs thrillers?

I realise I'm late to the Moriarty party, but what a delightful read. Real, entertaining, absorbing.

Now ask me if I've done any writing this week :D I tend to have a few on the go at once, so I'll finish several in a short space of time!
What's the protocol - I've been updating my original post as I go, do I copy & paste that into a new comment each time or just when I finish the challenge?
LOL! You can wait until you finish if you like...but make sure you hit "edit" before you copy and paste otherwise the links won't work:)
It's done either way by different people, so it's really up to you:)

Thanks Phrynne:) A few other challenges on the go, but yes, that's what I will do!

Well done Brenda! You've earned your title this month!

Sorry to report that it hasn't put me off chocolate! In fact it comes with some pretty decadent chocolate desert recipes at the end of the book!

Congratulations, you Speed Reader Extraordinaire, Brenda! I'm able to speed read when I need to, but usually for information. For fun, I tend to be a slow reader. I expect you have a lot of people waiting for your reviews, though, so keep up the good work!
(We are in your dust here.)

LOL! Thanks Patty:) Used to love the Roadrunner cartoons on the TV when I watched with the kids:)

Me, too - beep, beep!

5★ for Heavenfield: A DCI Ryan Mystery by L.J. Ross.
I thoroughly enjoyed #3 in the DCI Ryan series. The Circle is a creepy bunch of satanists with members in all sorts of places, and they go around murdering people and now each other. Good fun in a nice setting with good people.

It's a fantasy that I found a bit disjointed although I liked the writing and will look for more of his stuff, I think. 3★

7. Anzac Day

4 left to go!

Enjoyable 2nd in the series of the Convict Girls who were transported to Sydney (such as it was then), with one of them dying but returning as a ghost and a strong presence in this one.
Still good fun.

It was a beautifully written book, just didn't grab me the way Captain Corelli's Mandolin did.
