A slowish start but the pace is picking up and yes it is good so far.

[book:Emp..."I haven't purchased the last one in Silver Ships yet. I just wasn't sure of the whole plant idea. I also read Empaths and was intrigued by it. Hate waiting for the next one; just hope I don't miss it in all my lists of things to read/buy/borrow.
I have my hardcover of Weber's A Call to Vengeance and my latest ST: Voyager that were on pre-order to read. But after eye surgery the beginning of March, I can now order glasses and am awaiting them. My surgeon had a medical emergency and is not able to see patients, so hopefully my optometrist was able to do his thing in light of the surgery (it's complicated) and my hard drive crashed, so I am also awaiting glasses to do my taxes (yes, I stupidly did not back up, but all my books were recoverable!). It's been that kind of month. In the meantime, I have been reading the Aeon 14 universe because other authors who wrote in the series in cooperation with M.D. Cooper I liked and Amy DuBoff and Zen Diepietro recommended I give it a try. I am annoyed by lack of editing; I am annoyed by constant cliffhanging endings,I am annoyed by the jumping all around in time and space instead of a straight time line to read - but a fan of the series in a sci fi FB event ended up gifting several of the books to me and now I am hooked by the characters. While the universe is Coopers, I think some of his contributing authors are better writers. Overall, in my rating system, it's a 3 star read - meaning average.
I am looking forward to reading book 4 of the Starship Mage
series when I get my free kindle borrow tomorrow.
odedo1 wrote: "Excellent the whole series is!!!"good to know. I've seen it in the shops, but didn't know much about it.
Seems to have gotten very favourable reviews
Sequel to Milk Run is out!
Suicide Run by Nathan Lowell. This appears to take place two or three years after Milk Run, with same main characters. I’m not very far in yet. Here’s hoping that it doesn’t keep me up half the night - I have to work tomorrow!

odedo1 wrote: "Excellent the whole series is!!!"I can't discern: is it a YA book or just happen to appear that way (or be presented that way). I'm intrigued by it, but I'm not really interested in stuff like the Hunger Games.
Maybe that's an unfair criticism
Teresa wrote: "I finished reading the three books starting with A Call to Duty by David Weber et. al. Readable and good backstory to the Honorverse, but not sure I’ll reread them...."
I haven't read ALL of these but have loved the ones I have!! They're great fun.
Is Revenger (by Alistair Reynolds) part of a planned trilogy or sequence?I must say I love a good sequence. Much more, these days, than standalones.
Earlier today I finished reading the 4th book in the Dream Healers series, just out a few days ago:
Dreamstorm by M.C.A. Hogarth. It’s sort of space opera, but also a very strange type of romance series. The two main characters are different species and there’s no sex involved at all, but they are mind linked. They met in college, in a psychiatric program, and after the mind link formed they discovered that they can do therapy while their clients dream. There are starships, space stations, and travel to other planets, and a lot of different species, but a lot of it is about relationships and helping people and food.

I’m currently rereading two different books: Ships of My Fathers for the NA pick and The Long Voyage of the Little Fleet by Mackey Chandler which is sequel to Family Law but doesn’t seem to be YA or NA since a lot of it is from the point of view of Gordon or another adult. Juggling both because in the midst of Ships of my Fathers I decided I needed a good dose of aliens, and Little Fleet has plenty of them.
Ghost wrote: "Just finished Abaddon's Gate. Like five minutes ago. Go me."It looks like you liked it more than me. I just did not like the preacher lady and wanted more sci-fi.
I just finished Something Wicked This Way Comes by Bradbury and now on Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said. "Something Wicked" had really amazing prose, although I would have preferred it slightly shorter. I'm just not a fan of long exposition inserted into books. Not sure how I feel about "Flow My Tears" but I do realize that Dick is known for his ideas instead of his great writing skills.
I am about halfway through We Are Legion (We Are Bob) and getting a bit annoyed with Bob, Bob Bill, Bob Milo, Bob Riker, Bob Calvin, Bob Homer ...
I've been listening to Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and I just started reading the 2nd Chief Inspector Gamache novel, A Fatal Grace by Louise Penny
I finished rereading the full Family Law series (4 books, very good) by Mackey Chandler, then reread Methuselah's Children by Robert A. Heinlein (meh). Now I’m rereading the series starting with
Quarter Share by Nathan Lowell.
Quarter Share by Nathan Lowell.
I finished this a few days ago. I'd rate it as good, but not amazing, mainly because it started off a bit slow, but I did like it much, much more towards the end. I like some of T.A. Pratt's other stuff so I think that's why I was more willing to chance it. I'll probably give the next book a shot and see hows it goes.
I've been reading The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah and listening to The Bungalow Mystery by Carolyn Keene (narrated by Laura Linney).
Fid’s Crusade is about a supervillain trying to get the world to see “heroes” as the phonies he believes them to be.Fid's Crusade
Just started Uncompromising Honor, the latest in the Honorverse. This is the first new book in the mainline thread since 2012 and it may be the last in that thread. It's not due out until October 2, 2018. But I just couldn't resist the eArc. It's a long one -- 768 pages -- so I'm planning to spend the whole weekend on it. Or as long as it takes.
I’m working on Starship Grifters. I just started, but so far I like it. It feels like a “What if Han Solo owned C-3PO, instead of befriending Chewbacca?” story.Starship Grifters

And the discussion thread is now posted for it (5 minutes ago) so feel free to talk about it as you read it.

Amy DuBoff has a new series started so just finished a Beta Read on Crystalline Space. I caught up in Jade Kerrion's Double Helix collection and really liked Silence Ends.Silence Ends The newest one, Sicarius Soul is on prerelease status and a good read also.
.In between I read some more Aeon 14 universe books.
One that I have had for awhile was my surprise really liked it book for the month - Lindsay Buroker's Emperor's Edge. I don't usually read fantasy/steam punk but I really liked her Fallen Empire and accompanying teen series. Admittedly, I also really like knowing I am. regardless of the story, going to be reading a well-edited, well written book. I was so taken with this first book in the series, I really want to get the next one.
On the 1st, I will get my free kindle read for the month, so the next Mage book by Stewart. I am working my way through that series 1 book per month - not my usual behavior. It's an exercise in patience.
(Aeon 14 universe's lack of editing gets on my nerves. Jade Kerrion's books are always well-edited. But in between reading a draft book and the number of Aeon 14 books with errors my eyes were getting a little crossed. Lindsay's book was like a cool drink of water in the desert).
Audrey wrote: "I am about halfway through We Are Legion (We Are Bob) and getting a bit annoyed with Bob, Bob Bill, Bob Milo, Bob Riker, Bob Calvin, Bob Homer ..."I totally agree, in fact I couldn’t finish the book. A shame as I was seeking a new and unfamiliar author . . .
I finished my marathon reread of Nathan Lowell’s Solar Clipper books, and was planning to read one of this month’s group reads but I got sidetracked into
Shall Not Perish by Richard Tongue. Military SF, lots of action, and not one I’d read before. I’m about halfway through the first book of the series.

The Ghost Brigades and I'm having trouble getting into it. I really liked Old Man's War when I read it a few years ago, so I bought this one immediately and just now started it. But it's just not gripping me. I'm not very far into it, but I really don't care what happens next. Maybe I'll put it down and try again later.
I've recently started going through the Xeelee Sequence. I chose to read it in chronological order instead of the publishing order. I've just finished Coalescent and am moving on to Transcendant.
I just finished a space opera written by a local author, I had a lot of fun with it, though it is a bit naive - more like some of the space opera that was written n the 80's than most modern stuff.
by local (to me) author James RavenI reviewed it too, if anyone is interested https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Shall Not Perish by Richard Tongue was readable but not enough to tempt me to buy the sequel.
I greatly enjoyed rereading the trilogy that starts with The Long Way Home by Sabrina Chase.
I am about halfway through a new release: The Red Admiral by Blaze Ward, latest in the series that starts with Auberon. The pace is really dragging. I may have to give up on this series. The previous one didn’t get to the action until halfway, so I have some hope for this one to improve.

I've been reading Frankenstein in Baghdad by Ahmed Saadawi and listening to The Iliad: by Homer (as narrated by Alfred Molina).
I finished The Red Admiral by Blaze Ward. Methinks that series is going downhill.... there were some good parts but I doubt I’ll reread that one.
Currently rereading
The Deed of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon, which is fantasy.

They’re great books, rather unique, too.
Just finished listening to Outlander by Diana GabaldonHere's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
My copy of Behave: The Biology of Humans at Our Best and Worst had to go back to the library, but what I got through was really interesting. I’ll definitely be returning to this one.Just finished the graphic novel CARTHAGO, which has some of the best art I’ve seen in quite a while. Unfortunately the story is a complete mess. 2 stars.
Started Artificial Condition today, the second installment of the Murderbot novellas. I’m already 1/3 of the way through and liking it.
Finished The Quantum Thief series with The Causal Angel .. unbelievable. The last book in the series was also very much a space opera, the first two weren't that much.Jean le Flambeur reminded me a lot of Sam from Lord of Light
