I'm reading this for week 43: a book about a thing that goes bump in the night. I've heard great things about it so it's one of my most-anticipated challenge reads :)

Something is out there, something terrifying that must not be seen. One glimpse of it, and a person is driven to deadly violence. No one knows what it is or where it came from.

Five years after it began, a handful of scattered survivors remains, including Malorie and her two young children. Living in an abandoned house near the river, she has dreamed of fleeing to a place where they might be safe. Now that the boy and girl are four, it's time to go, but the journey ahead will be terrifying: twenty miles downriver in a rowboat--blindfolded--with nothing to rely on but her wits and the children’s trained ears. One wrong choice and they will die. Something is following them all the while, but is it man, animal, or monster?

Zaz | 2969 comments Yey! I liked this one, it was creepy enough and had an atmosphere which reminded me of The Road.

This book was fantastic! The entire time, I kept thinking that I needed to listen to the audiobook while blindfolded. I never took it that far but the storyline was just so eerie. (view spoiler)

This was a great book to get me excited for the rest of the year :)

Maple (maplerie) | 1025 comments I think I was an outlier with this book. I absolutely HATED it. I felt like I wasted time reading it.

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments I'm so planning to read this one next year!

Bethany (bethcrawleyuk) | -1 comments This is my week 4 book in 2017. I can't wait to read it!!

Sarah | 539 comments I read this one for Week 43: A book with a chilling atmosphere (scary, unsettling, cold) in the 2017 challenge. It was a good read. Had just the right amount of a creepy vibe for most of the book for me. Although I think that I expected it to end a little differently than it did.

Jessica (jesbee) Just finished reading this for week 7: a book with an animal name in the title or on the cover (in this case, both apply). I enjoyed it a lot! It was quite creepy and I liked the suspense at almost every turn.

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments I read this for 2017, Week 4 (A book with a title that doesn't contain the letter "E"). I had really high hopes for this, but I'm in the minority as I thought it was absolutely terrible. One of the worst books I've ever read.

Stacey D. | 1908 comments For what it is - a scary story - I found the novel to be a suspense-filled read, with an interesting premise. The scary unknown is the best part of this book. The way it was written, the fear and creepiness of the story, kept me interested. However, several blatant flaws in the details stood out for me. I read this for Week 45: A book that intimidates/scares you.

Laura, rather than do that, I edited my comment and removed my pointed remarks. Hope that satisfies :)

Katie | 2360 comments I read this for last year's challenge, a book with a chilling atmosphere. It was so atmospheric. I didn't care for the ending, but I think the author did a good job of capturing the terror of the unknown. Reading it, I thought it read like a movie. I think they are going to make it into a movie.

I had heard that, Katie. But it seems like it's been a long time now. Hmm....

Looks like there are recent stories about it. Should be on Netflix. But no release date that I saw. http://variety.com/2017/film/news/mac...

Stacey D. | 1908 comments I could see this as a movie. Is Sandra Bullock supposed to play Malorie? Though I love her, isn’t she a little too old for that role?

IMDb shows Bullock playing Malorie. It's been long enough since I read the book that I honestly don't remember the character's age.

message 18: by Jody (new) - rated it 1 star

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments It’s definitely a stretch with Sandra Bullock (53), unless they change the age of the kids (I think they’re three or four). She’s awesome though.

Katie | 2360 comments Yeah, I had heard it was her too. I don't see her in this role either. She's amazing, but I'd like to see someone younger in this role.

Stacey D. | 1908 comments Me too, Katie!

message 21: by Joan (new) - rated it 4 stars

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments This was my first book for the 2019 Challenge. I used it for prompt #6 - A book with a dual timeline. It was a creepy read. I had some nightmares. (view spoiler)

I watched the movie. Some things were definitely changed but it was fun to watch it.

So very, very excited. It's being released awfully fast though, which makes me a bit nervous.
