The Fear (The Enemy, #3) by Charlie Higson
Qualification: 3rd in series
Read 10/3/16
Rating: 4 stars

Good book overall. But also really confusing, and I feel there were a lot of pointless bits in it, and a lot of random characters who all just died in the end. Confusing because in each book so far (3), there's been a different group of characters to remember, and it's so frustrating because I haven't been reading them back to back, so I really can't remember the first or second book's characters, or the events that happened. I liked this book because it tied some characters from the other books together, and gave me different perspectives on some of the other events, but I still feel like it could've been easier to understand. And I also think that there were a lot of random pointless fighting scenes that take up so much time and ink.

I still like it. I didn't read the first two and still don't plan too. They didn't even admit to liking each other till the end. I flow right through and it was hot but okay read.

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 3778 comments You read that without reading the first two? Wow.

message 361: by Taya:) (new)

Taya:) | 340 comments The first two are base off of different set of MCs. This book can be read as standalone. It bits and pieces about the previous dealings but nothing I'm not interested in finding out.

Week 8 - Spot 39

Book read:
Single White Vampire (Argeneau #3) by Lynsay Sands Single White Vampire by Lynsay Sands
How it fits: #3 in the Argeneau Family Vampire series
Date finished: 03/10/16
Rating: ★★★
Review: Lucern Argeneau writes vampire romance novels and has tons of fans. When he continually refuses to reply to fan letters or go on a book tour, his editor Kate travels to Toronto to convince Lucern in person to do something to help with marketing his books. She kind of pushes herself into his house and his life. Since this is a romance, of course they fall in love. And like with the other books in this series, Kate has to choose to give up her normal human life and marry Lucern so that they can be together forever in vampire wedded bliss. This was an okay entry in this series. I see now that all of these books are going to follow a member of the Argeneau family as they find the one person whose mind they can't read which is the signal for ding-ding-ding: their soulmate! I don't usually read romance novels, so I'm always looking for something more to the plot than just two "people" falling in love, but it was interesting when Kate and Lucern went to the book conference, to see what those are like since I've never attended one.

Blameless (Parasol Protectorate, #3) by Gail Carriger
I didn’t like this book as much as the previous two. Alexia is pregnant and estranged from her husband. He doesn’t believe the child is his since he should not be able to sire a child. He was very cruel at the end of the last book and she is hurt and very angry with him.
It seemed this book and a bunch of stuff that really wasn’t necessary to me. Hopefully it will play into the other books. I did get a little annoyed with Alexia always referring to her child as inconvenient. She eventually found out answers about what her child could possibly be after being pursued by vampires who wanted her dead, the Templars kidnapping her, and a “doctor” who wanted to experiment on her and vivisection her child.
After Maccon finally got his head together and realized how much he messed up, he went after her to grovel and bring her home.
I would have like it if Akeldama would have had a bigger part in this book. I love his character in addition to some very important things that happened to him that I hope will have a larger part in the next book.

This was one of my early mm genre buys nearly 5 years ago. The main thing I remember is that nothing pick till the middle. It was like a rush to get to that point. I like the story as much I like back then. It slow but not boring. I completely forgot about what happened at the end of this story unless my copy was currupted. If you're interested in explore that genre this is nice easy book.

Review:
This book has so many wow moments in it. Portia discovers her dead husband is not quite so dead. He doesn't remember her. However, he does have a problem: he likes blood just a bit too much.
I started this series in 2010 and then had to wait for the last couple books to come out. I did finally purchase the books in 2012 but never got around to finishing the series. This book was definitely worth the wait. There was so much action with demons, witches and jinns. It was shaping up to a happy ending and then a surprise twist happened in the very last couple sentences. Now I am anxious to read the 5th and final book in the series to see what happens next. I will be good and save book 5 for next week though. ; )

Up until a year and a half ago, I worked but I quit my job to stay home with my kids. My kids are all in cyber school so I usually get one book done while they are in their virtual classes. They are done at 2 PM and then I help with homework, gym class (they need 36/72 hours depending on grade)/activities, supper etc. Then I don't get much reading done until later in the evening when activities are done for the day or they go to bed.

I missed so much of my kids growing up before that, when the daycare decided to raise the prices for the umpteenth time, I decided it was time to stay home with my kids. I don't regret it at all. Yeah I have more time to read but also it gave me options when my daughter was bullied so badly last year. She was getting physically hurt and I feared for her safety. Plus I learned that my kids were not learning as much as I thought. My youngest son has ADHD and wasn't getting the help he needed. He is smart and the work was not challenging enough for him. He would be done in a few minutes and the rest of the class was still working for a long time after he was done. He couldn't still that long with nothing to do. Then he would get in trouble for fidgeting around. My daughter, although decent in math, she was struggling with reading comprehension. The cyber school curriculum was harder and my son excels at it. My daughter struggled at first but her teachers caught it within the first 2 weeks and got her into a program to help her. She is now getting good grades and she struggles less. The program they have her in is ongoing and it adds more challenging work as she completes it. Overall, the benefits of staying home have been well worth it. I am much closer to my kids now and I know they are getting a good education. I see and hear what they are learning. My oldest son just switched to cyber school recently so I am still learning what he is struggling with. Do I miss working? Not so much. I hated my job and really wanted to move into wedding planning as I am a certified wedding planner. I will someday pursue that dream but for now I am happy with just being here with my kids.

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 3778 comments Wow that sounds harsh, but I'm glad that you guys have sussed stuff out :) And wedding planning sounds like good fun.

The Sacrifice (The Enemy #4) by Charlie Higson
Qualification: 4th in series
Date finished: 16/3/2016
Rating: 4 stars

Could be my second favourite in this series, after the first one. It was so good! It finally explained the virus, well sort of, and while it was still confusing, it was also amazing. I liked how still more characters paths crossed, and more connections were made, but it's so annoying when people die because it's so sudden and I keep forgetting they're dead. Then we're introduced to another character to have them die a few chapters later. It's quite repetitive, also with the unlimited zombie attacks. But overall, it was a good one :)

I loved this book and once again it renewed my love of this author. She does creepy on a level that nobody else can pull off. I was happy to get back into the world of Amelia since she finally got rid of Delvin's ghosts. I think the fact that we got to learn so much more about Amelia and how powerful she really was was amazing. She did some great things in this book and I cant wait for the next one.

This has been on my TBR for a while and now that I read I wished I would have gotten to it sooner. I absolutely loved this book.
The world was so different from other paranormal books that I have read. I would say it felt like a dystopia book with the way the evolution of the life. Meg is running away and is happy when she finds herself in the Courtyard where human law doesn’t apply. Even though Simon knows Meg is lying about something, he makes her the new human liaison.
I really liked how Meg put things together. Because of her life before escaping, she only had images and sound as a reference point, so she doesn’t think or act like other humans do. She made friends very quickly between entertaining to the crows, and how she was able to help Sam, a wolf pup get past his fears. As she makes a life for herself in the Courtyard, the people she escaped from want her back and have used all their resources to make that happen.
In this dangerous game the men are playing it is apparent that they do not care how many people have to die in order to get Meg back in addition to working on ways to destroy the Others.
