Lacey Weatherford was born in Ft. Meade Maryland while her father was serving in the military. She has been a life long resident of Arizona, spending most of her time growing up in the small rural town of Clay Springs.
It was while she was attending the small country school in Clay Springs, that she read her first "big" book at the age of eight. It was a Nancy Drew novel and Lacey was instantly hooked. She read every book that she could find in the series and decided that she wanted to write stories too.
Lacey spent a lot of time at the library from that time forward, even volunteering in her later teen years and early twenties. She would don a crazy clown outfit for the Friends of the Library fundraisers in an effort to help get the new town library built.
When she and her husband moved away from the area, Lacey took the opportunity to take some creative writing classes at the local college to help further along her interests. Several years later, they were blessed with the opportunity to move back to Clay Springs with their family. The town had finally succeeded in building their library and Lacey had the opportunity to be President of the Friends of the Library for a very short time, before relocating.
Lacey and her family still live in the White Mountains of Arizona, where she continues to write young adult novels that have a fantasy/fairytale or paranormal bent to them, as well as being sure to include a great romantic storyline!
Out of all the books in this series, The Dark Rising is far my favorite because it raises my lust crush on Vance Mangum to EPIC proportions. I was devastated by the ending in book 3 and I couldn't wait to see where the author would take Vance and Portia next? Would they get to enjoy even a few moments of peace before all hell broke out again? This couple sizzles and I love the way their relationship had developed but watch out guys because this book will BLOW YOUR MIND with the twists. Would they get to enjoy even a few moments of peace before all hell broke out again? This couple sizzles and I love the way their relationship had developed but watch out guys because this book will BLOW YOUR MIND with the twists. Vance is incredible and I've always wanted to see just how BAD this bad boy could be. Well I got my answer and my heart still hasn't recovered. I wished so hard to be Portia in this book, to be the object of Vance's cat and mouse play and you ladies are going to lose your ever lovin' minds . Think Damon but HOTTER *gasp did I just say that out aloud?* Hehehe I can't gush enough about this book and can't wait to see what everyone thinks. This is THE book to get this year. Post-Release Gush
You would think that I would have nothing more to say on the topic seeing my pre-gush summed it up so eloquently. I read, I swooned, I swooned even HARDER, I lost my mind and then I pledged my eternal love to Vance all over again! No matter how many times I read this book, just the mere mention of it reduces me to tingles. It has nothing to do with watching its creation from the inside. It has EVERYTHING to do with the emotions it pulls out of you as the reader, and the rollercoaster ride you go on as you experience a read that doesn't come along every day. There is an amazing read... and then there is a phenomonal read... and then there is The Dark Rising. EPIC in all it's glory!
One thing that has always struck me as I've read this series, and been fortunate to get insights into the characters is just how fearless the author is. It's nice to play it safe, give the reader a little danger but keep the beloved characters in a good place and in one piece. One thing the author has always said is "What if?" What if the worst happened? What if Vance and Portia are tested in such a way they may never survive it? Does it make you want to cry just thinking about it? I know I did going into The Dark Rising. I wanted to reach in and wrap them both in cotton wool balls until all their hurts were better and it was rainbows and puppy dogs and everything cutesy. I have NEVER been so glad to be wrong! From the opening page, you can feel the tension, you can feel this sense of "something big" and when it explodes... HOLD ON TIGHT! This book drags you by the heart strings to the very end and just when you think WOOOOHOOO ... you get left with an ending that will have you hunting the author done for the next installment.
Portia and Vance are amazing. I absolutely LOVE the development of Portia. She's come along way from the 16 year old teenager that was given the "Surprise you're a witch!" She is the epitome of loyalty and everything you want in the person you love. I love that she fights for her relationship with Vance, that even as her world crumbles, she doesn't whimper and cower - she stands up and does all that she can. She risks everything and nothing is ever enough! She's part of why the romance in this book steals your heart.
Hahahaha Vance. What more can I say about him? I know everyone loves a bad boy and I'm definitely an addict but when you turn a bad boy evil - it's a constant swoon! There were scenes in this book so seductive, so intense that I literally stopped breathing and my body broke out in tingles. I love the possessiveness about him, the way he can't get enough of Portia and I'm telling you - you NEED to experience one of his kisses. They are SEARING! I can't wait to see where Vance goes next because he secured his place at the top of my Lust List!
I think you all get the idea and I'm hoping your next stop is to go grab yourself a copy of the book. This is a guaranteed AMAZING read! The entire series is incredible and this is by far my FAVORITE of the four books released. If you love epic love stories, fights between good and evil... if you love danger, magic and an emotional read from beginning to end.... if you love bad boys gone wild, heroines who fight with everything they have... THIS is the book for you. Happy reading!
*Note – if you haven't read the previous books in this series, you may not want to read this review
Wow, what a trip this book was! This was totally unexpected for me. For some reason, I was thinking that this was the last book in the series – therefore, I thought everything would be nicely wrapped up with a bow on top! Toward the last 10 pages, I was starting to get worried. When I got to the last page, I couldn't decide if I should go into full panic mode or if I should relax because surely this can't be the LAST book can it? In my moment of panic, I emailed Lacey – and no, phew, it is not the last book in the series. Now, I can take my chill pill and finish my review...
Imagine this: The love of your life dies tragically in front of your eyes. You bury your new husband days later and can't image spending the rest of your life alone. Then miraculously, you find out that your husband is alive! This is what happens to Portia Mullens. Moments later, elation turns to despair when she realizes that he has no memories of his past life.
Poor Portia, she has gone through so much heartache – and you feel it all along with her. Vance agrees to spend some time with Portia to see how things go, day by day. Portia desperately wants him to get his memories back. Vance quickly feels this strong pull toward Portia, and he can't stay away. I was blown away at the passion they still have for each other, even with Vance not being himself . It was really sweet to see them start to fall for each other all over again. Just when things are looking up, evil comes back into the picture and takes it all away again.
Portia is just so in love and so desperate to be with Vance in any way that she can. It is sad to see the pain she endures just to be by his side. All this evil and power seem to be such a big temptation to Vance, it seems as if it is more important than Portia. Some women would walk away, but not Portia. She has such love for Vance, along with blind optimism – that she is determined to have him back.
This is such a heartbreaking book with a roller coaster ride of emotions. The Dark Rising turns out to be Vance and Portia's biggest challenge yet. There are so many twists and turns in this book, you will not be able to put in down! I'm not sure how much longer I can wait until I read the 5th, and final, book in this series!
This was heartbreaking. It was hard to see how desperate Portia was to get Vance back but as his old self. In the end it was good to see that Vance still loves Portia with all his being. Don't get me wrong I ship Portia and Vance so hard but I kinda love Hex..
I hate how Vance has been in this book however the ending might have quite a lot to do with that. Well I hope. There's one book to go and I hope somehow everything can get back to the way it was.
Portia and Hex's relationship is brilliant and it's obvious that he cares for her. When I was reading the chapters that were between the two of them you can feel the feelings between them and she even says in the book that she loves him but I'm pretty sure they're going with Vance and Portia in the final book.
I'm going to end this here because oh my god I need to get to the next book so I can finally finish this series and see what happens next.
After dealing with the horrifying loss of her husband in the previous novel Portia Mangum is shocked to find that her husband Vance has returned from the dead. Apparently the Awakening that she received in the last novel also worked on restoring her husband. Unfortunately though he doesn’t remember anything about his life before the moment he awoke in a coffin, buried alive. Though he doesn’t remember his wife he still works with her to rediscover their marriage, however a crimp in their plans of things going back to normal occurs when they dangerously discover that Vance has not only come back, but he’s come back as a demon – an un-kill-able, unstoppable demon. Their relationship may have survived a lot, but can it survive his unquenchable thirst for her blood?
After my feeling on that last book I was a little reserved about reading this one so it took me a little bit to trust that I’d been delivered a much better story in the fourth novel in the Witches and Warlock series. Even the lovey dovey moments are edgy because Vance is as much a danger to her as he is a comfort.
I liked the introduction of Hex, the half jinn warlock and hope to see him in future titles. I also liked the emotional struggles of Portia within this novel and the hint of character growth. My main complaint with this is in some parts it almost seems to support staying in an abusive relationship, the main killed her, even though she couldn’t die due to the Awakening and it wasn’t until she temporarily lost the Awakening and was therefore vulnerable to death that she left him and even then after gaining all the strong jinnie powers she still goes back to him.
I applauded Weatherford for making Portia a stronger character in this novel, but it still seems no matter how much Portia gains, Vance always gains more. He always has the upper hand in the relationship and demon or not I don’t see that as healthy or something I’d want to encourage in a role model.
I do like how Weatherford managing to continue keeping the relationship at a believable physical level for the couple without bringing readers inside their sex life and therefore staying clearly within the young adult genre.
The ending however was a major shock, that frankly made no sense whatsoever to me and I’m wondering how that twist will be explained in the next novel. I’m not really sure what’s going on now and who’s alive and who’s dead and I’m wondering how it is that these characters are not staying dead when Weatherford kills them off.
Overall The Dark Rising is a stunning comeback after her slightly disappointing previous novel and with this story I’m drawn back into the series wanting to know what happens next. The stakes are higher, the danger is bigger and the questions brought with this ending will definitely be stuck in my head until the next novel in the series debuts. Highly recommended.
This is the fourth book in a five book series...and it is the darkest book in the series so far. The series starts out as a light and fun take on a young girl learning she is a witch at age 16 and she and her family's trials and fun times as she goes through the first part of her 16th year. The books get progressively darker as the heroine (Portia) and the other major characters in the series have to abandon their peaceful existence to fight the forces of evil, sometimes not so effectively. I am still hooked on the series as the writing is good and the characters are engaging but there were typos in this book (much more so than in the previous ones). Maybe I'm overly sensitive to this being an English major but it does bother me when I discover typos in published books. After all, that's what proofreaders are for, and I think they really did a poor job of proofreading in this book. I gave the first three books five stars but I only gave this one four stars due to the typos and the somewhat repetitive nature of the plot. However, having said that, the writing still keeps you engaged with the characters in the book...rooting for the good and despising the evil. I'm starting the fifth book now, so we will see where that goes. I'm a sucker for "happily ever after" endings but I'm beginning to think that this series may not end that way.
I'm having a hard time breathing at the moment. As ridiculous as it sounds, this one has given me an anxiety attack. I'm trembling, sweaty, and nauseous and I might need to go to the ER. Ok, maybe not the ER, but I am not feeling good. This one was definitely better than book 3. I'm not as upset about the characters and their actions. The dialogue thing still bugged me but not nearly as much as before. So many things happened that I didn't think possible and I love that this book consistently surprised me like that. Now that ending... I never ever EVER saw that coming. I'm shocked, disgusted, hurt... there are too many emotions bouncing around in my body. I will DEFINITELY read book 5 soon, but I'll have to take a break first. The ending for this one tells me I can't handle book 5 just yet. I need to heal first lol.
Wow! This book is such a page turner. There are so many twists and so much action. Things keep on building up and when you think they are built up, no, there is another twist.
This book is an emotional roller coaster ride. Portia's husband has recently lost his memories. Things cannot get any worse, right? Well, for poor Portia, Vance acts like his demonic self at times and also acts like his original self. He is like a walking contradiction. Portia really has a lot to deal with. She is dealing with Vance's out of control powers. And now, he craves for her blood. How much is going on for this poor girl? Yet, when so much is going out of control, Portia has a strong backbone. She has grown so much during this book. Instead of acting fidgety and weak, she is strong and stands up to herself. Her no nonsense attitude towards Vance is like wow.
Vance also has a lot to deal with. He recently lost his memories. He does not remember anything. I feel extremely sorry for him. I mean that guy has been killed and then resurrected and then has to control his cravings. He does act like a jerk and is evil, but that is his demon speaking. However, when he first meets Portia after loosing his memories I love the way he is still his usual self. He does have some new traits but that makes him so much more fun to be around. In this book, he is the epitome of bad boy. But he is still his sweet self.
The entire plot line of this book is fast. There is so much going on. Portia goes through so much. I also just can't believe the number of twists and turns. I won't spoil them for you, but you just go to read it and see how many more evil people are there. It just keeps on getting bigger.
The only reason this book book did not receive five stars is because there were some points in the book where the plot just dragged on. Some scenes just felt repetitive. Otherwise, the overall book was great.
Great four installment to this series! I can't wait to read the conclusion! This book receives four stars.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ After a twist reveals Vance’s survival but loss of memory, Portia embarks on a heartfelt mission to restore his memories and their love. The story explores themes of identity, memory, and rekindled connection, while introducing new dark threats that put their relationship at risk. Vance’s struggle with temptation and darkness adds layers of internal conflict to the external dangers. This installment combines romance and suspense effectively, deepening the emotional resonance of the series.
***If you have'nt read the book then this review may spoil it.***
The Dark Rising is the 4th book in the series "of Witches and Warlocks" by Lacey Weatherford, and yet again its a great read that kept me interested. As with the other 3 books lots of twist and turns and events that you don't expect.
This book picks up where book 3 ended but with a twist straight away for young Portia. The tale of the young lovers was ended quickly in book 3 by the death of Vance when he was trying to save both his wife Portia and his mother. Although he was thought to be dead and was burried as such, everyone seemed to have forgotten that he was present and picked up some of the power from "The Awakening". This was still running though his body un-noticed.
When Portia turns up at his grave not long after burring him she is faced with something she never thought she would see again - her husband Vance, standing at the foot of his own grave! However, in a cruel twist he remembers nothing prior to waking in a coffin! Not his name, about his and Portia's relationship and marriage, about his life, nothing! Portia convinces him to trust her and starts explaining things and eventually takes him back to her house much to everyone's shock.
From here Portia tries to help Vance understand and regain his memory, but it's not as simple as she hoped it would be. As always things are not simple for the young pair and the story takes on a lot more twists as Vance has taken on more demon tendancies than he had before his death and this causes many problems for the pair, their family, friends and the coven.
Events unfold and it seems that Vance is causing them, not that Portia wants to believe its her husband who she loves dearly. This is where the book takes you on another roller coaster ride as Portia goes into his mind (or so she thinks), but its actually the mind of a demon shape shifter, who captures Portia and takes her away.
This sets the trap for Vance to go and rescue her, getting himself captured as well. Although very weak, Portia manages to escape after loosing her immortality from The Awakening as she knows she will die when Vance wakes and wants her blood. She keeps on running until she is too weak to go further and passes out. Upon waking she finds herself in a shack with a wizzard called Hex who found her. Hex's story is another great twist and well written and he ends up helping Portia learn new skills.
As always things are never simple where Vance and Portia are concerned and Vance ends up mixed in with a demon coven, who constantly supply him with blood. Many things happen and Portia goes back to him and nearly ends up being killed by her beloved when he is put under a trance by the head of his coven. Vance sees sense at last minute and stops, but this isn't the end of the book.
In a cruel final twist what Portia believes to be Vance her husband turns into her DEAD father-in-law Damian Cummings!!! This last piece of the book totally messed with my head as I tried to work out how it was possible, what had I missed linked to this, and mostly YOU CAN'T END THE BOOK THERE on a total cliffhanger!
Well written and a great read, i'm off to read book 5!

The Dark Rising is the fourth installment in the Of Witches and Warlocks series by lacey Weatherford. This book oozes drama, action and some bad ass magic.
Portia has come a long way in her short time that she has discovered that she is a witch. She finds the love of her life, he is partially demon due to an incomplete transformation, got married to said love of her life and has been the recipient of a serious mojo power called the ‘The Awakening’. But none of that matters when your husband, bad-ass and gorgeous Vance Mangum, is killed.
I really felt for Portia in this book. She has been ripped apart by magic, the one thing that brought her and Vance together. It was so devastating. Then when things look like they are on the up-side for Portia, Lacey goes and ruins it all by flipping it to the dark side.
I had some serious issues with a certain character in this book most of the way through. One minute I was like, “aww, sweet”, and the next I was about ready to tear them to pieces. I think this book had a bit of bi-polar effect on me. I hated it but loved it at the same time. For the record, I don’t mean hate the book, I mean that the writing connects with me so much that I feel like I am Portia. I love reading books where I can get that caught up and lost in the character’s emotions and personal story that I feel like it’s happening to me. It means a book has actually touched me and it will always stay with me.
There was a new type of magic introduced in this book and I thought it was quite funky an innovative. I had never really thought of this type of magic being incorporated into this series but it works so well. So watch out for Hex. That’s all I am saying about that.
Overall, brilliant addition to the series and it has strengthened my love for the series (not that I was ever in doubt of it) but it has also made me slightly annoyed at the author as she well knows for that cliffhanger - Mrs Weatherford..you got some explaining to do! Hehe, just kidding, I am sure it will all unravel in the next book. Which might I add, I am giddy over and can’t wait to read.
Disclaimer: I bought this e-book via Smashwords.com. I have not been paid to review this book and everything I have said is of my own honest opinion.
This time I'm hiding the review in case anyone doesn't want spoilers cause while I endeavoured not to give anything away in my previous reviews I'm not honestly sure I can do that in this one! The author has me riveted with this story and at first I was so happy to have Vance back after the heartache of his funeral at the start and honestly? I thought that as he'd basically died and had come back because of the awakening that the demon aspect of him would be gone and he'd be free. To say my heart broke when it turned out not to be true was an understatement. When Vance turned I was disappointed and have kept my fingers crossed that with Portia stronger then she was before that surely she could cure him and reverse the conversion? After all she stopped it when she was weaker and no-one thought it could happen but this hasn't been tried and with the Voo Doo and Hoo Doo (one being the good form of this type of magic and the other being the the twisted to evil form) having been able to remove the awkening from them then I'm still kinda hoping even with this installment of the sage having finished that through Voo Doo Vance's Demon aspect could be removed so he can be free of it and just be the super Warlock he is without having to battle bloodlust and other Demon attributes allowing him and Portia to finally have the complete happiness they deserve. The twist at the end was completely unexpected for me but while Vance has indeed be bad and appears to have given up on trying to fight his Demon side, he still hasn't crossed the line yet, he still hasn't taken an innocent life so fingers crossed in the final installment he'll be saved and he and Portia will finally get their happy ever after for good!

Dark and deadly dangerous. This fourth installment in the fantastic Of Witches and Warlocks series is filled with love and passion and loyalty. Twists and turns abound, leading to a completely unexpected conclusion. I just couldn't put it down! I have been one of Lacey's biggest fans from the moment I read the very first book, The Trouble With Spells. Portia and Vance share a swoon-worthy love that twists and turns but always remains constant. When the end of Blood of the White Witch left me shocked and wondering what could possibly happen next, The Dark Rising picked up the story with a bang not long after the third ended. Definately the darkest yet of the series, this latest book takes the story of Portia and Vance in a completely different direction.
There is nothing not to love about the characters in these novels. They are richly created and you are pulled in by them, regardless of their role in the story. Good or evil, they provoke you emotionally and make you a part of their story, I love a story that pulls you in that way, makes you feel as if you were a part of the story and these books do that with these characters.
The suspense of this book was wonderful, twisting and turning throughout the story and leading to a completely unexpected conclusion. Now, I can't wait until the next book!!
Imagine the worst day of your life and multiply it by 10 because that is what happens to Portia. The one she thought she could never lose who would be by her side fighting anything that came their way is gone and with it her heart. How does she pick up the pieces of her broken heart after having to bury her one true love and husband Vance. She can't make herself believe he is truly gone it is as if there is a tie the can not be broken and a fight left in Portia to discover what is really going on. As she follows her heart to her soul she finds Vance alive but he has no clue who Portia is although something in him stirs and he blindly trust her he believes and let's Portia in. Just when you think the worst is over darkness awaits it's chance to sneak in and take it's toll on Vance. Evil lurks as it bides it's time to take over and take Vance into a darkness that he may never come back from. This is one heck of a thriller love story that has got me spinning. I never know whether to laugh or cry. I truly believe that this series just keeps getting better and better the further into it I get pulled. I can't put it down I find myself wanting to read all night long just to get to the next book to find out how it all may end. My nails will be bitten to the quick soon I am loving this series!
So things started to look up for this series when I began this book. It started off right where the last one ended, and I couldn't pull my eyes away for one second. I had to know if things would work out for my two favorite people. Over the course of this series they've been put to the test numerous times, and I had hope that they'd regain the love and devotion they've shared throughout.
Of course, things are never easy for them, and they just got worse with Vance's increased demonic tendencies. I have to applaud Portia. I'm sure that no matter how much someone loves their partner, if they turned into a blood drinking, red-eyed, wicked creature, they'd be running as far away as possible. Not Portia. She took Vance in any shape and form, and even though it took a lot out of her, she didn't give up on him - on them!
Unfortunately, the threat of a new evil invaded their lives, and things got even more complex. But once again, Portia showed her true strength and devotion, taking life-threatening risks for the one she loves.
The ending of this book was definitely surprising. It threw me totally off balance and my mind flooded with so many questions. How was it possible? For how long? What about Vance? This was another fantastic set up for the next book, and I'm going to waste no time in finding out the answers to my questions.
I Received An ARC Of This Book In Exchange For My Honest Review!
This is the fourth book in the series and believe it or not it just keeps getting better. I know I say that every time but with each book the characters grow and develop so much and face different obstacles. The fact that Lacey manages to find a way to continue the story and not make it seem old is great.
I was so happy when I realized that Vance wasn't dead that I started crying tears of joy. Vance's being alive isn't all perfect though. He doesn't remember anything or anyone. Portia is so happy to have him back. He agrees to try a day by day relationship with Portia to see what this attraction between them is.
Watching them fall in love all over again was awesome. The new Vance is a lot like the old Vance but he's also very different. Like the other books in the series it doesn't take long until danger finds them once again.
This book was full of twists and turns. I couldn't put it down. There is a bit of a dark side to Vance and Portia's relationship in this book. Lacey does a great job portraying all parts of their relationship including the not so pretty parts. I can't wait to read the fifth and final book in the series. If you haven't read this series you don't know what you're missing. I suggest you go out and check it out now you won't be disappointed.
Oh crap!!!!!!!! I need to read the next one now! I hope I am wrong about what I think just happened in this book because otherwise I am thoroughly grossed out, creeped out and so mad!!!
Ok this is going to be a short review because I am not going to be able to say much without giving a lot away. This book was actually really frustrating for me, poor Portia! Vance pretty much ticked me off this whole time and I felt bad for Portia. A lot of crazy stuff happened in this book and that ending I did not see coming. I was left with my jaw hanging open going "wait, what just happened?!?!!?" Then after I thought about it I started freaking out, so now I need to read the next book to find out what the heck is going on exactly.
I loved that Portia became more BA in this book and did her best to deal with Vance. She is still one of my favorites even if there were times I wanted to shake her. Like I said I was pretty much mad at Vance for the whole book, though there was a good reason. I really hope he is better in the next book. I missed Shelly and Brad in this one. I love them, but they weren't in it much. Also there was a whole host of new and interesting characters.
All I have to say is read this series now, it is awesome! Off to read the next one :)
Cover Thoughts: I love how it shows what is to come.
Wow. Weatherford has serious skills.
She once again wrapped me around her finger and pushed me to finish this book, all with her words. At times, I felt as if I was gliding through the book in a numb state. Others, I was furious and filled with so much emotion that I was beside myself. Sometimes, I felt like Portia was turning into a crazed person who was blinded. However, underneath that, I was right there with her. I felt like I was Portia.
Again, Weatherford has some serious skills! I am stuck on these characters and this series just like Portia to Vance and Vance to Portia. Although it may not seem like it, I'm speechless right now. My mind is reeling from this book that I just finished. I'm unsure on whether I should rush over to Amazon and buy the next book right this second or if I should decompress first. These books are so intense with action and emotion, so much emotion, that afterwards my head is full.
Addict's Last Words: As I stated in a Goodreads update, Lacey Weatherford is right on up there with Jessica Park. You know that is one high level of praise for me.
To Buy or To Borrow: Buy! I love this series so much and you should read them too!
Once again Lacey Weatherford doesn't disappoint, in this installment of Portia and Vance's story the twists and turns just keep coming. You are kept on the edge of your seat, second guessing yourself and the characters in the story. Chocked full of love, mystery, witches, warlocks and demons Dark Rising is a page turner you won't want to put down. Portia's love and faith in Vance is something everyone wants in a relationship and her hope keeps you cheering for them to overcome and find each other again. The ending will make your head spin, I know it did mine. My jaw dropped and I literally yelled out NO! But I am not telling you why, for that you have to read it.
I loved the new character that Lacey introduces in Hex a half jihni that helps Portia grow and learn about herself and her capabilities. Plus a new Bad Girl by the name of Mayla who I wanted to strangle from the moment she was introduced. I love how Lacey weaves these characters into the story and pulls you in as well. She leaves you wanting more and more and I can't wait to see what happens next.
I got this book from the author free of cost in exchange of an honest review from my side. Firstly I would like to thank the author and the publisher for giving me this opportunity of reading and reviewing this fabulous book. In this sequel Vance has lost his memories and we find Portia trying her best to make him remember the time they spent together. On the other hand the evil part of Vance is again raising it’s nasty head? Will Portia get killed by the hands of her beloved? Will Vance remember the reason behind the undeniable connection he feels towards Portia? Will this be so easy when evil is lurking in every nook and corner? Get ready to go on a whirlwind ride of emotions. God, this story made me cry!!! The emotional intensity was so high in this particular installment that I felt totally attached to Portia!!! Great plot along with awesome characters, extreme action, rogue passion, desperate wants, evil vs. good, and so much more. The mystery is great and the suspense is well kept that will keep the readers interested. Highly recommended read!!!
First let me start off by saying, I never in a million years thought that I could just make a funny and ask for an early release of a book and have it work. That's just crazy talk! But I did, and the wonderful Ms. Lacey sent me the 4th book!!! So it's official, Lacey Weatherford has a new stalker, I mean fan =) I loved loved loved loved this book. Without going into detail, I absolutely loathe the cliffhanger. Especially since I received an early copy and I know I will have to wait 10 times longer to read the conclusion. Okay, not really 10 times longer, but it does feel that way =) Either way I am still more than thankful to have been able to read an early copy. It really is an awesome book!!! Ms. Lacey, as my kids would say " You are the best, I keep you safe". Okay so I wont really keep you safe, but you can feel safe knowing that I will buy everything you publish even if it's just a Dear Santa wish list =)
Lacey Weatherford is absolutely killing me with how good these endings are! I have had the same reaction to the last two book conclusions, which has been: 'WHAT? NO! NEXT BOOK!' Something I loved about this book (but maybe I could be wrong now??) is that no matter what, Vance always chooses Portia. If that does not define true love, or soul mates, then I don't know what does. The other thing I loved about this book was Portia's personality. I loved, loved, loved, that she did not sit around weeping the entire book, and instead stood up to Vance, and didn't allow him to tell her what to do (except for one scene). In this book she very much reminded me of Elena Gilbert from 'The Vampire Diaries', another character that I love dearly. Now I will be waiting impatiently for January tenth to discover what will come of this cliff hanger. Once again, job well done Lacey Weatherford!
OK, let me just say that I was devastated through out this entire book. I love this series, it's very well written and the characters are both loveable and fun. But I can not believe the turn this story has taken.
Lance, who was one of my all time favorite leads was so dark and evil that I'm having a hard time feeling anything at all for him. Even when he was trying to be nice and loving to Portia it felt very insincere and malicious. I'm so disappointed. I hope something happens to turn this around especially with how it ended so that I can go back to my warm and fuzzy feelings for Lance.
So, needless to say I'm eagerly awaiting the next book and keeping my fingers crossed.
The first 3 books in the series were centered around the loving relationship of Portia and Vance, that was what kept you rooting for them as a couple to survive. In this book they turned Vance into a jerk and completly ruined the character. I am currently reading the 5th and final book in the series and could care less if they stay together because Vance is a character I actually want to punch now. I keep finding myself wondering how Portia can still love him and hoping she finally tells him to take a hike. If Vance doesn't revert back to the character I read about in the first 3 books this will be a disappointing series.
This is book four int the witches and warlock series, as they just seem to get better. Again, Ms. Weatherford has taken a step into the supernatural that will just floor you. They characters remain constant in their personalities, and loyalties so you still feel the connection with them that has surely built up as you go.
Portia runs into many unexpected obsticals to her happiness, including being kidnapped by an insane demon, meeting a warlock with unusual powers and defying her family and coven. The twists and turns will not disappoint you, and the ending leaves you panting for book five.
This book has so many wow moments in it. Portia discovers her dead husband is not quite so dead. He doesn't remember her. However, he does have a problem: he likes blood just a bit too much. I started this series in 2010 and then had to wait for the last couple books to come out. I did finally purchase the books in 2012 but never got around to finishing the series. This book was definitely worth the wait. There was so much action with demons, witches and jinns. It was shaping up to a happy ending and then a surprise twist happened in the very last couple sentences. Now I am anxious to read the 5th and final book in the series to see what happens next.
Having loved the last book in this series, I am disappointed in this one. It lacks the one element that makes the previous books special and strong. The close relationships are very important to the fabric of this series, at least they are for me. The writing is full of heart-wrenching moments, pure evil, and very little happiness.
The book does have a few interesting twists. Meeting Hex is one of the better things in this story. He is a marvelous character who does care a lot about Portia. In my eyes, he provides a bit of the familial closeness missing from this story.
I am afraid that this book does very little to further my enchantment with this series. 3 stars
Lacey Weatherford's done it again. This is the fourth installment in the Witches & Warlocks series and it doesn't disappoint. These books just keep getting better & better. My emotions really went on a bit of a roller coaster ride with this one. So many twists & turns, I had a hard time keeping up with all the action. Once again I could not put this book down. And the ending, well let me just say, Wow (didn't see that one coming)!!! Can't wait for the 5th book to come out in this series. Vance & Portia forever :)
Really annoyed that portia and vance's happy ending is postponed for another book (at least i hope its a happy ending. it would be a really sad if it didn't finish that way) :( i hope everything turns around in the next book. what really annoys me is that did she really have to bring damien back after all this time, HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD... he didn't get the awakening so it's confusing to how he's returned :s. the book wasn't as good as the others and the ending was a massive twist. can't wait for the last book to be released on the 10th of january 2012 :D

Okay.....total redemption, I must admit. The Dark Rising kept me captivated the entire time....completely irritated at some points & then full of hope in the next. It was a welcomed changed for the two characters to be seperated for most of the book, it made those sweet intimacies that much better when they had them.
That ENDING?! Had me screaming at the book saying What?!!!! And, of course now I'm left to wait with everyone else until the next book drops! Well played Ms. Weatherford, well played!
