I will be reading Hamish Macbeth #24 which should be Death of a Gentle Lady but GR doesn't count the Christmas novel and thinks Death of a Witch is the 24th book. So I will read Death of a Witch. :D

Review:
I'm rereading this series in anticipation of next one (one more month!). I just love it. I love interaction between characters (especially Others confusions with something humans do - those things have me laughing so hard that rest of family gets worded about my sanity :P). OK some things could make you little queasy, but luckily my brain usually blocks those things while reading (I could read something really disgusting and it'll be 'OK, not bad', but if I had to watch same thing, I'm covering my eyes :P)

Can we get to 3s next round, so I can read next one? :D

Review: I like this little mystery series. A smart but non-obnoxious MC who loves his animals more than any woman (so far), a bad guy that is easy to hate, a funny little town, more murders than should ever be considered normal, secrets, lies and everything wrapped up by the end (no cliffhangers). Nice easy enjoyable read.

Magic on the Storm (Allie Beckstrom, #4) by Devon Monk
Book:
Magic on the Storm by Devon Monk
Qualification: Allie Beckstrom #4
Finished: 01 Feb 2016
Rating: ★★★★

Review:
A wild storm is headed for Portland, destabilising magic and threatening to leave devastation in its wake. Members of the Authority gather in the city to form a plan to avoid wholesale destruction, but the organisation is split up into factions vying for control in an internal conflict that may escalate into war at the slightest push. Allie may be part of the Authority now, but she certainly doesn't trust them - she simply has no choice but to follow their orders for now. The storm isn't her only problem, though: her Hounds are in trouble and her dead father is still stuck in her head, offering unsolicited advice and attempting to take over her body whenever he pleases. Then Greyson's on the loose again, and he's coming for her at the worst possible time...

This one started out very slow, and for about the first third of the book I was rather bored, waiting for something to happen. But oh boy, did the pace pick up! The second half of the book is packed with action, hurtling toward a pageturner climax until you just stare dumbfounded at the last page cursing Devon Monk for the evil, evil cliffhanger. I certainly won't be waiting long until I pick up the next part. I still wish I felt a little more emotionally invested in the whole Allie/Zayvion romance, though... but nope, still don't like him and still not feeling it. Oh well. The action-filled scenes and interesting minor characters like Shame, Terric and Davy certainly make up for the lack of romance appeal for me.

Review:

This series is starting to feel a little bit more like what I loved about Vampire Academy. It's getting much more exciting. While I liked this one much more than the first one it isn't exceptional in any way in particular. The plot moved better and the climax was much more exciting. I like the character development of Sydney even though there are still a few hiccups keeping her from being immediately likable like Rose was. I'm still excited to continue the series and I can't wait to start the next one.

Fourth in a series
Book: Deacon (Unfinished Hero, #4) by Kristen Ashley by Kristen Ashley

Review
This is the 4th book in the Unfinished Hero series, however on reading it didn't even feel like the same series it started off so differently than the previous book. Not that this is a bad thing it is just that the other guys like Knight, Raid and Creed only appeared in the book from about 85% onwards where before they have took a larger role in the story.

This once focuses on Deacon aka John Priest he's been mentioned in previous books and I have always been intrigued to find out more about him. He is a typic alpha male, head strong, protective and gorgeous. Kristen Ashley has a way of keeping you hooked on the story from start to finish and makes the book unravel almost as you make you way through it.

He meets the heroine Cassidy after she buys some cabins and decided to do them up as holiday lets. Deacon turns up to stay on and off for 6 years obviously trying to fight the connection they both have for each other.

Whilst I loved the chemistry with Deacon and Cassidy and enjoyed the book probably more than the previous ones, the dialogue sent me into a tail spin. If I have to hear the phrases 'He gets me' and 'I gave him that' 'he gave me that' 'go my god!' anymore I may loose my mind!! It was so repetitive, I probably wouldn't have noticed as much had a read the Kindle version instead of audio.

I will enjoy reading Sebring when it is published shortly but think I will give my ears time to recover.

Review: For a stale series, I like how Brown mixed it up with the intertwined stories in the present and the past. It added a new level to the mystery. The ending was predictable but it was an enjoyable book.

Review: I read the first book in this series quite awhile ago and loved it until the very end. The ending annoyed me so much that I didn't come back to this series for a couple of years. I still need to space them out and do a bit of recovery between volumes.

I love the archaeology plots and the mysteries, I always feel like I learn something when reading a Ruth Galloway book. It takes place in a part of the world I have never visited, though reading about it makes me want to. The personal life of the MC still makes me want to slap her at least once per book, but I am learning to deal. Interesting quick read.

Ladies, as I mentioned way back when at the beginning of the game, I won't be able to roll and post our reviews for us this Friday while I'm out of the country.

I remembered someone said they'd step in, but I just checked and saw it was PepperP0t who has left the team. So I need a new volunteer. Who'd be willing to be captain for a day this week?

You'll need to make sure all our reviews are in on time, then roll on Friday, post our new spot and a link to the week 4 reviews in the Post Your Spot thread, and post our new spot here as well. I'm leaving on Wednesday (turns out I misremembered when I said Thursday), so you might have to do a new collection post for all of this week's reviews if they're not all in by the time I leave. I'll be back on Sunday, so you won't have to bother setting one up for next week, I'll take care of that once I'm home.

message 132: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 502 comments I'm pretty sure I volunteered to take care of this week when you are gone, but maybe I only volunteered in my head? Anyway, I arranged to get home a bit early on Thursday to gather and post the reviews and I'll be able to roll at midnight Central time right?

Even if it was reread and I knew what's going on, this book still had me on edge of the seat and had me swearing at RL when reading was interrupted. I knew this was going to happen but I still picked it up in the evening, read till very early morning hours and had to get up and function three hours later. And I'm not sorry. I'll gladly do it again next year when next book should be out :D

Sounds like a great series Tea. Does the author plan to keep going do you know, or is the fourth book going to be it? I hate waiting for new books to come out, so I will probably wait until the author is done and pick them all up at once. :D

Review:
I have decided to re-read the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series, have been meaning to do so, for a while and this book in particular fits into a few challenges I am doing at the moment. I have read a couple of the books years ago but seemed to have missed the majority, and can only remember the one about Z?!

Really enjoyed the book, the lingo takes a bit of getting used to. However the book does come with a list of meanings which was helpful. Right from the outset you can tell each Brother has a story to tell and I look forwards to reading them all. They are six vampire warriors fighting to protect their race.

This book followed the story of Wrath and half-human Beth, great chemistry between the pair from the beginning. The book has plenty of passion too not just sex which is a refreshing change something in the paranormal genre.

Looking forwards to reading more about the characters especially to see how the human ex-cop fares in the vampire world.

Review:
The third book in this delightful steampunky series finds Lady Claire Trevelyan and her charges on board the Lady Lucy, an airship belonging to the Dunsmuirs who have invited Claire and the children to join them on a trip to their holdings in Canada. Things don't go quite as planned, however, as sky pirates take over the ship, diverting it to the tiny town of Resolution with the intention of holding Claire and the Dunsmuirs for ransom. It is up to the children to mount a rescue operation - preferably before the odious Lord James Selwyn arrives to whisk Claire away and force her into marriage.

Another fun adventure read, just as enjoyable as the previous books. I liked the change of scenery as well as the character of Alice a lot. I sure hope we'll get to see her again in future.
