I finished and really, really liked Shadowshaper by Daniel José Older. It's urban fantasy set in Brooklyn with teen heroic characters, out to save the neighborhood. Then I read The Crossover by Kwame Alexander, which some might read as a MG or YA novel written in verse, but adults will also find much to admire here.I'm currently reading Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs, because I read all the books in this series.
Sterling wrote: "... I really loved the Night Circus. It was such a great book. "Yeah, finished it yesterday and it was amazing :)
I also started Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.
I finished and Reviewed "Visitor", Cherryh's 17th novel in her Foreigner series, epic Sci-Fi.Last nite I started a classic Sci-Fi When HARLIE Was One by my friend David Gerrold
Jaleenajo wrote: "I'm currently reading Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire ..." I pre-purchased Every Heart a Doorway, now just trying to find time to add it to my read list.
I just finished a really great book called The Combat Codes. I received it as a Goodreads Giveaway and ended up really loving it. Which is odd because the main theme was MMA and I'm not into that type of thing at all. I was really pleasantly surprised by it though. It was a great Sci-Fi read. I highly recommend it.
I am reading Gold Fame Citrus by Claire Vaye Watkins and am totally blown away. Fans of literary dystopian sci fi like Station Eleven (by Emily St. John Mandel) will definitely dig it!
Sarah Anne wrote: "I'm listening to Barsk: The Elephants' Graveyard and I absolutely love it so far."I read that one recently and thought it was really, really good. Loved his fresh take on uplift and there's enough material for sequels so I hope he writes more.
Benjamin wrote: "Loved his fresh take on uplift and there's enough material for sequels so I hope he writes more. ..."Apparently he is working on a sequel. It's so exciting! I completely loved the book.
I've now moved on to Midnight Robber.
The Dagger and the Coin series is great! I'm saving Book 5 (The Spiders War) for when my semester is over.
I just finished Six-Gun Snow White, a weird west retelling of Snow White. I'm also reading Red Rising as well as Siege and Storm.
Six-Gun is so weird. I was trying to describe it to someone and I just burst into hysterical laughter. It's bizarre.
I did like how Valente incorporated the various fairy tale characters as your stereotypical westerners and a horse.
I finished Fire Touched and I recommend that people who read the Mercy Thompson books should read this.Currently reading the ARC We Love You, Charlie Freeman by Kaitlyn Greenidge. I'm still within the first 50 pages, but it's definitely got a creepy vibe, is it science fiction? Maybe, maybe not, too soon to say.

Out of curiosity, what was your opinion of [book:Night Broken|17562900]? I used to be a big fan of Mercy Thompson, but over the past several books, I've become more of a lukewarm fan.
Valerie, I gave Night Broken four stars. I remember not liking Adam's first wife, she takes a small role in the most recent book, too, but we're not supposed to like her. OTOH, I did like her brother, I've liked it whenever we find out more about Mercy's bio family.
just finished a very good, military space opera by Elliot Kay. "Poor Man's War" . Another goodreader called it "die hard in space", I liked that description.

I gave it a grudging 3-stars. To me, it feels like drama for the sake of drama rather than a solidly written plot.
Thanks for being candid, while our opinions differ, this helped my decision to wait on this one.
I am currently going back and forth between Sword of Destiny and Everything's Eventual: 14 Dark Tales. Both are great.
I just finished Dawn of Wonder and it was so good. If you have readThe Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss, then you will like this book. I have the audible version and Tim Gerrard Reynolds does a great job. You can get the book on Amazon for $1.99 this month for the kindle version. It is not on whispersync but it is definitely worth reading.
I'm reading Outpost
by F.T. McKinstry
I know it probably sounds like hype but I'm enjoying it more than anything I've read in the last four years. I'm getting nothing from the author in return for saying this. Just doing everyone a favor by saying you should get this book.
Just finished a re-read of one of my favorite "classics"
Clifford Simak will always be one of my favorite authors, always wonderful characterization and the descriptions of northeast fall landscapes make you believe you've been there.

It's been a bit hectic lately, so I've fallen behind on my reviews. So here's a bunch. Most of them are a bit shorter than I normally write, likely because I had so many. I enjoyed all of them though. The Dragon Reborn - My Review
The Last Mortal Bond - My Review
Lords of the North - My Review
Exploding the Phone: The Untold Story of the Teenagers and Outlaws who Hacked Ma Bell - My Review
Lumberjanes, Vol. 3: A Terrible Plan - My Review
Hi allRecently joined the group. I'm reading Poseidon's Wake by Alastair Reynolds. Reynolds is definitely my current favourite SF author. I thought I heard somewhere that this was going to be a ten part series, but Posiedon's Wake is Book Three and it certainly seems to be winding up to a conclusion?
Phrynne wrote: "This is a good one! Feed by Mira Granthttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show..."
I really enjoyed the heck out of Feed. I was a little less impressed by Deadline, but it was still fun.
Yesterday I finished Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen by Lois McMaster Bujold, which isn't going to be for everyone, is anything?, but it was for me.Today I'm reading Anna and the Swallow Man by Gavriel Savit.

I found it a very interesting 'sidestep' for the series and an interesting progression for Cordelia. She has always fascinated me and this certainly gave an interesting take on her mature character.
I am reading Golden Son. I read Red Rising over a year ago and I am finally ready to continue this series.
Sterling wrote: "I am reading Golden Son. I read Red Rising over a year ago and I am finally ready to continue this series."I'm about 1/3 of the way through Red Rising and really enjoying it. But now I'm a bit apprehensive with you being "finally ready to continue"... Hope it's not devastating!
I'm sneaking ahead on next month's reading pick by starting Starship Troopers early. I finished another book and had to make a decision. If I started a different book, I'd be left behind by the time I finished it.

It's a fantastic book and I am about 1/3 way through Golden Son and I am loving it.
I finished Daniel Abraham’s The Dagger and the Coin series earlier this week and really enjoyed it. Here are my reviews, the first three of which I already posted links to earlier:Book 1
Book 2
Book 3
Book 4
Book 5
I’m now about 25% into The Color of Magic which is the first book by Terry Pratchett that I’ve ever read. I decided to try this with some skepticism, and it’s about as odd as I expected. It isn’t the strangest thing I’ve ever read, but it’s surely in the top 10…
Thanks, Melanie. It’s too late for me to start with Small Gods, since I’ve already started with a different book, but I’ll keep it in mind. I plan to try a few of the Discworld books even if I decide I don’t like this one. I’ve seen a lot of comments from people who have liked different groups of the books better than the others
