♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) | 121 comments Started Blood Sisters Vampire Stories by Women by Paula Guran , I'm about 6 stories in and rather enjoying it so far. 3 havent been great, one was terrible. The other 3 were fantastic though and i plan on checking out the authors work in the future. Especially Jewelle Gomez who writes such unique and wonderful vampires.
I love how her main character is a minority (set in the 20s) A kind and caring black women (African-american i believe) who's a lesbian, Gilda is currently dealing with racial prejudice, was a slave before being change and still struggles with the memories, but even after all her hard years she looks for the good in everyone, even in people where it seems like there couldnt possibly be any. Really what's not to love. Plus cause its the 20's they have some kick ass sounding Blues, i love the blues <3

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9661 comments This is embarrassing, I'm already one book behind schedule and it's driving me nuts!

Maybe I should get a few short reads in to give me a buffer instead of being frustrated with my 2016 reading challenge chearfully announcing I'm not going to reach my goal this year...again.

Currently reading Magic Stars (Kate Daniels, #8.5, Grey Wolf, #1) by Ilona Andrews .

Ugh! That's the downside to joining that challenge. It's too early in the year for that negative attitude, GR! Leave Val alone and let her read! LOL! ;)

LOVED that book and hoping there's more to come in the future.

Sandra | 25908 comments Finished Warden (Elemental Paladins, #1) by Montana Ash which was really good despite the shocker of a cover.

Also finished Catching Dragos (The Dragos Clan, #2) by Gail Koger loved it, another from one of my auto-buy authors.

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) | 121 comments Been binge reading some Cassie Palmer.

Curse the Dawn (Cassandra Palmer, #4) by Karen Chance Hunt the Moon (Cassandra Palmer, #5) by Karen Chance Tempt the Stars (Cassandra Palmer, #6) by Karen Chance A Family Affair (Cassandra Palmer, #4.1) by Karen Chance Shadowland (Cassandra Palmer, #4.2) by Karen Chance Updating Pritkin (Cassandra Palmer, #5.5) by Karen Chance

Tempt the Stars was a new read for me. I don't know if its me (not the right timing, etc) or Chance, but i felt as though this book was as good as the previous 5. maybe a bit messy? with references to the shorts just kind of thrown in there. Speaking of the shorts, how fantastic are they!! i had a great time seeing pritkin fret about cassie and her sanity when dealing with the allu, only to come back and seeing (view spoiler) really he should know by now, cassie makes the best she can of every moment. <3
Weirdly enough i was a little disappointed not seeing much or mircea (I back the pritkin pony) but i can see now what he adds to the series.

really looking forward to Reap the Wind (Cassandra Palmer, #7) by Karen Chance just waiting on my library!!

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) | 121 comments Also started What Doesn't Kill You (Catherine Ling, #2) by Iris Johansen boy can i see some parents getting rage face over this book already!! lol. I suppose when you've had a son who has been brought up to be a monstrous psychopath you have to parent him different. Though i thought it was insensitive of her to tell this:

'Pain rippled through her. "You know that wasn't true."
"No, I didn't. Not for a long while. But then I knew he only wanted to hurt me, and that was probably just another way to do it."
"Actually, he wanted to hurt me." She tried to smile. "You were just a means to an End."

like seriously who says shit like that? the boy got tortured, doesnt matter why. The bad guy was obviously trying to hurt him, you don't belittle it by saying he wasn't hurting you, he was hurting me!! and thats his mother. (if you can call her that, from what i've read - not much so far - she's barely there, and is pretty self-centered when it comes emotions, how things should go, etc. ) the women is driving me a little bonkers, then you have everyone except this Sam fellow talking in strange ways. Not sure I'm going to continue reading this one, even if the kid is fascinating.
He's 11, but doesnt act like one (understandable with what he's been through) I'm intrigued to see how he would evolve as a character.

And i have a lot of libraey books to get through in just a few days....
O.o

i dont want to waste my time on shitty books.

Josie | 1967 comments I've just finished The Last Hour of Gann by R. Lee Smith after copying Val (as usual!) and could not put it down. 1,000 pages but didn't want it to end...

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) | 121 comments Stil have quite a few libraries books i need to binge read before returning
The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1) by James Dashner Juvie by Steve Watkins Blood on My Hands (Thrillogy, #2) by Todd Strasser (not sure I'll read this one as book 2) Fields of Glory (The Hundred Years War #1) by Michael Jecks The Finisher (Vega Jane, #1) by David Baldacci The Guild of Assassins (Majat Code #2) by Anna Kashina (also accidentally picked up # 2 instead of the first) Undead to the World (The Bloodhound Files, #6) by D.D. Barant

Plus i still need to finish Blood Sisters Vampire Stories by Women by Paula Guran but might return What Doesn't Kill You (Catherine Ling, #2) by Iris Johansen as its not really holding my attention, and as you can see i have a large amount of other books to choose from.

Should probably stop binge watching supernatural and start reading..... lol.

Josie | 1967 comments I am super into sci-fi with a bit of romance right now! I always copy you with what you're reading haha XD

I'm reading another of R.L Smith's books Heat by R. Lee Smith , it's taking me a little longer to get into but I think that's because I really wanted to stay with Amber and Meoraq!
Cottonwood by R. Lee Smith and The Land of the Beautiful Dead by R. Lee Smith look similar and sound good.

I have also added Starshine (Aurora Rising, #1) by G.S. Jennsen which I'm planning to read next, assuming I'm still in this phase (you can get 3 books of the series plus a prequel as a bundle for quite a good deal, rather than buying them individually).

Yes!!

With sci-fi romance, I remember enjoying These Broken Stars (Starbound, #1) by Amie Kaufman but I don't think the hero is an alien and it's more YA. I also really liked Games of Command by Linnea Sinclair , loved the hero (he's some kind of cyborg).

This is more steampunk but I LOVED Encrypted (Forgotten Ages, #1) by Lindsay Buroker , has a kind of alien-feel to it.

Feverborn (Fever, #8) by Karen Marie Moning I was wondering about this book,
I loved the first five books still liked the next two books but not as much
as the first five, got me thinking now as the cheapest paperback is going
to be around £9 around $15 USD. So I am thinking I might wait for it to reach

message 35: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 595 comments I was in a big reading slump in December and start January. Luckily it's turned for the better now, and here's what I've managed to finish in January so far:

One Grave at a Time (Night Huntress #6) by Jeaniene Frost
I'm happy this series keeps being as well as it is. I'm looking forward to starting Vlad's story now, as it seems I have to read Jeaniene's books Chronological to how they're published, since there'll be a lot of spoilers afterwards (I learned that with Night Huntress World books).

Thorn Queen (Dark Swan, #2) by Richelle Mead
For me this second installment in the series, was a lot better than the first. I felt like the MC a lot better, and it kept me interested all the time while reading it.

Life As We Knew It (Last Survivors, #1) by Susan Beth Pfeffer
These types of genres are some of my least favorite. I don't know why, but I always want to postpone these books. I was pushed to read it and did, but I wasn't overly impressed with the story. I didn't like the MC very much, and it was written in diary form, which I don't really enjoy. The plot was good, and interesting at times, but it worked really slow for me.

A Fistful of Charms (The Hollows, #4) by Kim Harrison
This series is really growing on me. I loved reading about Jenks being human sized. That was so much fun. I'm even more convinced about how much I hate Nick, and the whole ordeal with Rachel and Ivy was intense. Can't wait to continue with this series next month hopefully.

Dead Beat (The Dresden Files, #7) by Jim Butcher
For me these books just keep getting better with each book. Harry is seriously growing on me. I'm not sure if I'd have loved the books as much if I hadn't listened to it in audio because James Masters is really doing a terrific job there I think.

Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs (Jane Jameson, #1) by Molly Harper
This book was so funny, and I really liked Jane the MC. I also enjoyed her bickering with Zeb. The plot was a little predictable at times, but I still really enjoyed the story.

Club Luxe 1 The Private Room (Billionaires Underground, #1) by Olivia Noble
This book started out ok, but I ended up hating it because the male interest was a moron! I don't think I'll want to read further in the series.

I'm currently working on these books:
Pleasure Unbound (Demonica #1) by Larissa Ione Summer of Two Wishes (Cedar Springs #1) by Julia London

Next up:
The Athena Effect (The Athena Effect, #1) by Derrolyn Anderson or The Strange Power (Dark Visions, #1) by L.J. Smith both recommended to me for a challenge.

Pleasure Unbound (Demonica #1) by Larissa Ione
Very great start to what I think will be a great series. I can definitely see why so many have been talking about this series.

Summer of Two Wishes (Cedar Springs #1) by Julia London
First time I read this book. It was a solid read with a good story. I was very drawn in by the story, and found it difficult to put away at times.

The Athena Effect (The Athena Effect, #1) by Derrolyn Anderson
I had been putting this book off for so long, and didn't expect much from the book. I read it as it was recommended to me, and I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would.

Fall with Me (Wait for You, #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
I love this series. I love the characters and the stories in each book, even though there are new main characters in each book.

Right now I'm working on:
Rock Chick (Rock Chick, #1) by Kristen Ashley The Girl from Everywhere (The Girl from Everywhere, #1) by Heidi Heilig

Next up:
The Next Always (Inn BoonsBoro, #1) by Nora Roberts and A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) | 121 comments Thinking of DNFing Obernewtyn (Obernewtyn Chronicles, #1) by Isobelle Carmody Fields of Glory (The Hundred Years War #1) by Michael Jecks .
