Diane | 90 comments Starting late and counting books I have already read this year. I hope I am doing this right. The amount of books I have read that have just missed qualifying totally bums me out (1.e. 497 pages)

Slick's Slugs:

The main connection is that these books are all historical fiction:

1. The Historian 676 pgs
2. Eclipse of the Crescent Moon 560 pgs
3. Jane Eyre 507 pages
4. Palace Walk 544 pages
5. Palace of Desire 464 pages + Sugar Street 336 pages (both books are in trilogy with book #4)
6. Foucault's Pendulum 623 pages (Book from 1001 Books List)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Have you finished reading all those books? If so, Slick's Slugs have been completed and you are ready to start Mickey's Marchers.

Dont' forget they don't all have to be 500 page books. You can take two or more books and combine them to total 500 pages or more.....THAT IS IF you can make them all connect!☻

You may want to go back and reconsider some of those already read books.

Welcome to the Challenge, Label your first section (msg 1)Slick's Slugs and ask for a badge at 2014 - I'M DONE A SECTION, Please Give me a Badge

You are off to a great start, with some good reads.

P.S. You might want to reserve the following messages (4, 5, 6 and 7) for Mickey Mouse's Marchers, Roadrunner's Racers, Tasmanian Devil's Trouncers and Buzz Lightyear's Bombers respectively, so that all of your books are close to the top of your Big Book thread.

I am not too savvy on the whole connection process. I thought they had to be in a series to add the smaller ones.

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Diane, your badge for Slick's Slugs has been posted. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

As Almeta mentioned, when you finish a section, you need to report it in the report section so that I don't miss your accomplishment. You're okay for the first section, but you'll want to do that when you complete Mickey's section and onwards.

Nope. Any connection you can imagine. Purple covers, publishing dates, author's who liked standing on their heads.☻

The only Tarzan movie I have seen recently is the Disney version. I saw the version with Johnny Weissmuller as Tarzan when I was a kid, but I haven't seen any others.

Loved both the Zorba movie and the book. I saw the movie about 10-15 years ago. I want to watch it again now that I've read the book.

Do you mean that you have read all of the books that you posted in all of your sections already?
I see it in the header for each section "All books read Jan-May". I did not notice it before. I thought those were the books you were going to read. Wow..... I am speachless.

Yes. I have read 129 books so far this year, so I actually have a lot more books I need to plug in. It really feels like cheating though, since only 6 of these books are actually greater than 500 pages long. When you read large volumes of books it is very easy to come up with connections to join them.

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Did you connect your books between sections?

Book 6 Foucault's Pendulum should connect to Book 7 A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. Each book is to be connected to the preceding book regardless of sections.

I can post badges once you've indicated those connections.

I liked it. There are two parallel story lines, one in the past and one in the present day. I liked one of the story lines more than the other. Not a happy kinda book, but one that addresses a history and culture that isn't that well known. Definitely a worth-while read.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I really liked it too, in fact one of my now favourites. I loved the writing. I found it so incredibly immersive. Did you like the past or present better? I felt that one was covered much more in depth than the other.

Very glad you enjoyed it too.

This was one of the rare occasions where I liked the current story more than the past story. Maybe because of the frequent jumps back to different times or perhaps because Aliides character became progressively less likeable.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Oh, super job! It doesn't matter if they are not all chunksters. I could not face only reading books over 500 pages all year long!

I did not mean to sound so surprised and not critical at all. I hope you did not take it that way. I was focusing on the book titles. You have completed some great books. I love to see people reading some of the wonderful old titles like I commented on. You seem to have a lot of newer titles too. Great mix!

It is funny to see new members posting their lists and links and getting badges with books they already read vs some of us who are still plodding our way along with our lists that we put together last December of what we wanted to read. Of course we have changed things (some many times) too. I finally got my Slick's badge and I don't have a real big problem if I don't earn any more. I still have a boat load of books to read and there is always a new one waiting for me to crack open the cover.

Oh, no, I didn't take it that way at all. Really.

I think it is sometimes easier to make what has already been read fit than to try to find future books to read that will fit.

Me too! But like a train wreak I wanted to know what happened. I loved her descriptions of place as well. I felt like I was in a foggy Estonian wood.
