Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed my first romance book - Anything for You by Kristan Higgins. I love this series!!! And while this book had bits of Higgins' trademark funny, it was more serious that the other books in the series. But just when it was getting too serious, something funny would come along to lighten it up. Incredibly entertaining! Definitely worth reading! 4.5 stars

Yearly Challenge
THE 2016 GOODREADS CHOICE AWARDS CHALLENGE
Duration: January 1, - December 31, 2016

Every November, the Goodreads Choice Awards come around, and readers get to vote on the best books of the year. To encourage members to read the books that may be in the running this year, we thought it'd be fun to have a challenge around this event.

Set a goal to read books published in 2016. The idea is that we, as a group, want to have read as many books in each category as we can! Please identify which category (or categories) the book falls in. These were 2015's categories (they sometimes change, so we can't guarantee that these will be the 2016 categories):

I'm going to do 10 for multiple categories (TBD)

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just finished my first fantasy selection - Grave of Hummingbirds by Jennifer Skutelsky. This was a surprisingly good book! I received it as a kindle first. There was a bit of a slow, confused start, but the author's writing was good so I pushed on. So glad that I did! Once the author started describing the Sophie character, I was hooked. Definitely worth reading! 4.5 stars

message 95: by Cheri (new)

Cheri (jovali2) Hi, Kadijah -- I am reading a book translated from the Korean that just came out in English in February 2016, then wondered whether I could count it (since it came out in Korea earlier). It's been favorably reviewed in the NYTimes, so I think it's a possibility for nomination for the GR Choice awards. I googled and found a Goodreads librarian page from the 2015 Choice Awards that makes me think I can use it: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Given that, can I use the book for this challenge? Also, that same posting said that last year the cut-off date for publication was Nov. 15, 2015, so can we use books published after Nov. 15, 2015 for this challenge, assuming they will be part of the 2016 GR Choice awards?
Thanks!

Cheri (jovali2) Update - 2/8

Fiction:
The Vegetarian by Han Kang (4 stars)
The English language edition just came out in Feb. 2016 (originally published in Korean in 2007). In the past, the Goodreads Choice Awards have included translations in the year they were translated, not the original publication year.

I believe so. The Martian won a Goodreads Choice award years after it was originally published.

What is the book? I was listening to the radio, and heard that several Korean books are now available in English, and I would love a suggestion.
