The Parlor PI's discussion
This n' That, Misc. Topics. Catch All Drawer.
So sorry, Jill. This was the first time we ever tried the birthday month pick and I was quite rickety at it. I think it best to axe birthday picks after LM has his belated day. Sorry to have offended anyone. That was totally not my intention. :-(
It was a good idea because this was a way for EVERYONE to be able to pick at least one book in the year without being left out of having the book they suggest not be read. I'm fine with everyone continuing this, it's just I'm not happy with the fact that I have to have mine two months after my birth month, and then having to share to make up to someone else. Please continue on with the birthday month picks I'm fine with it, I don't want to participate in it for Dec. Now if some new member comes in and there birthday is in Dec. I'm more than happy for them to take that month, BUT, I, myself don't want to do it. So you can say that the birthday calendar would be from Jan.-Nov. I'm not wanting you to discontinue it, it's just I'm not going to par take in it. I want everyone else to be able to enjoy their birth month by picking the book they want to read. Don't do away with it because of me, that is not my intentions, I just said why I don't want to do it in Feb. that is all

How many folks would be interested in Death Takes a Holiday? Since we already have 2 books going for January I hesitate to throw a 3rd into the mix if folks aren't up to it. Would appreciate some feedback so I know if I should start a thread or not...
I've got my copy, Allison. If there's no objections, we can keep w/the plan and run it as a Jan. side read which could overlap into Feb. If it goes for Jan. (as it is a New Years mystery) I'll be along in a couple days. Any way is fine with me. What say you PI's?
I don't mind a quick chat about Death Takes a Holiday. I'm about 70% into it. Should finish it this evening. Some of the characters are very silly!
For those of you on Netgalley, the new Otter Lake book is up for grabs!!! Also, the new Hannah Swenson book is available. I put in for several today!!
Ok, I'll start Death Takes a Holiday ( a side read) thread now then. Folks can join in when they want.
Has anyone heard of the new book A Talent for Murder by Andrew Wilson? It's coming out in July. This is a description:"Discover the real-life mystery centered on the queen of crime herself: Agatha Christie. In this tantalizing new novel, Christie’s mysterious ten-day disappearance serves as the starting point for a gripping novel, in which Christie herself is pulled into a case of blackmail and murder".
I'm hoping to get it from NetGalley! Sounds interesting.

That does sound interesting. We do love Dame Agatha here.

The queen of mystery disappears. Great subject and another one for the TBR lineup. There's a movie out on that topic w/Dustin Hoffman I believe. Not sure it answers the Q but is entertaining.

Honestly, I was never truly that interested or intrigued by Agatha Christie's disappearance as many are. I'm more interested in Christie's mind and how she created these ingenious stories that stand the test of time and continually increases in fans every year. I'm more interested in whether Agatha Christie ever doubted her stories and her writing at times, how many drafts did she do on a particular story, etc. I would love to actually see a literal rough draft and compare it to the final product!
I was never interested until people started coming out of the wood work and writing about it. Now, since there are at least 2 books out on the subject (fiction at least), i wonder how they will compare.
My Facebook Cozy Mysteries Once a Month book club will be reading A Spoonful of Murder by Connie Archer in February. Feel free to join us (if you're like me and will be reading at least 10 books in February LOL).
Working at half capacity on iPad as I'm waiting for a computer part and am keeping up...somewhat. Murphy's Law working overtime.
Hope the new part will take care of issue. Meantime, the e-mails are piling up and I need to get to all my biz stuff. Frustrating!

If ever you have problems with your computer freezing up, nothing clicks on, off, stuff starts dancing around on your bottom tool bar and five different techs from Norton, Microsoft, ATT, HP and a couple calls and hours with each, it may not be malicious software or a virus. It may be your MOUSE. Yep, It was simple as that. Fairly new apparatus with new batteries and I never thought it'd be that. if I only knew going in.
I love the new mystery Goodreads' graphics. Who doesn't love cozies, whodunits, mysteries...chocolates, animals, warmed brandies and friends!?
Love this publisher's mystery newsletter. They break down sub genres to cozies, gaslight mysteries, suspense etc. Several titles in this edition look good. See whatcha think...if link opens.

I have to stop myself sometimes from looking at those newsletters because I end up wanting to read them all!!
Is anyone signed on Quirky Blind Date with a Book on Facebook? You sign up and once a month they'll send you a book and you have to review it (e-book). On the form they give you one line about what the books about but not the title so you pick like that or you can opt for "suprise me". I got one so far so I'll see how I like it before signing up again.

The sign ups for June were just posted so I signed up again. I think the point is to end up reading books you wouldn't ordinarily choose yourself and the authors might be independent authors? Not sure exactly. The book I got for May is Nancie by Angela Rigley. I don't know if it's a YA book or children's book or what adult book!! I know it's about a young girl. We shall see!
A bit of good news came my way as you can see by the masthead photo. Went from Official Selection to Finalist just this past Sat. We made one of five for Director & Co-Director and one of five for Best Actress. Winners will be picked July 10th in Toronto. Though it's only for shorts, there's still quite a bit of competition. And the credits help promo a writer or filmmaker's work in many ways. Anyway, still on a cloud and I wanted to share with The PI's!

Thank you, Allison. I'd love to but so far I'm not going. Several things in the way of me doing so. The big one is I HATE flying anymore.
Nicole, for some reason it didn't transfer right. Suppose to come out white not black. Oh, well. Yeah, it was my film wheat logo or laurels for the film nod. Like an award to post to posters, flyers etc.
Nicole, Allison, thanks! It's based on a scene taken from my second mystery and made into a short film. A fun way to do some filming and promo at same time. Holds me over 'til I'm able to film the whole screenplay. lol
Appreciate your support, interest. So nice of you, PI's! Thanks again!

Mark, you have pick of July for your birthday month. Might be a little late starting but not by much. Maybe start process of posting picks beg. of next week? On your clock is fine here. :-)
I thought we were going to have Ian pick for July, since his birthday is earlier in the month. Though I haven't seen him post in a little while. Are you still here, Ian?
I'll ask Ian if he's going to stop by! He started a book group on Facebook and he might be preoccupied with that at the moment.
Forgot about that, Mark. Maybe it is because I haven't seen him around. Okay, if he returns, it'll be his call. Give him 'til Sat. to reply? That okay with everyone? If not, Mark, it's for you.
Thanks for that, Nicole.
Thanks for that, Nicole.
I contacted Ian and he's a bit behind with reading so I asked if he wanted to hand off the pick for this month. I'll let you know!
Hey, gang, just taking the pulse-- Are you all okay with the group as is? Fine with checking in, participating whenever? I'm okay yet we are down to a few regulars with Nicole being the most active. Thank you, Nicole. And of course the rest who do join in often. Just don't want to keep it up if we feel we have to participate out of duty. I don't want that pressure on anyone. Yet I'd hate to see The Parlor, a cozy place to exit the crowded Internet Highway, get bulldozed. Again, just checking. ;-)
I think this is a fun, casual group. There's a book club on Facebook that I belong to and this woman just asks questions to the group. I think she just copies the questions from something she found online. I feel like i'm taking a test and I have to answer correctly!! That's not fun!Hope the Parlor keeps going!
Hi everyone! I've just joined the group, thanks so much! The group was recommend by Nicole Carino Garafolo, as we're in many of the same cozy book clubs together. I love cozies, and cozy shows, and try to review and discuss as much as possible. Nicole :-)
Hey, Hi Nicole and welcome! Hope you'll come often, stay long. (Maybe we can use 1st initial of your last name to differentiate 'tween our two Nicoles. ;-) ) And you're just in time to jump in on our ongoing July discussion of The Curse of Arundel Hall if you are so inclined. We'd love to have your opines.
Soon we'll be selecting our August title for the month. PI's, I guess we can start posting title nominations this coming Wed. 19th. Maybe up to three titles per each PI? That sound good?
Anyway, happy summer cozy reading moments to all. ;-)

NO thank you! and I will be happy to explain this so that NO ONE will have any smart ass remarks, because I don't want to hear it! MY birthday is Dec. 30th, every year I never had a party with friends over, because everyone was out of town or we were out of town, or because everyone was "broke" from Christmas. Every year at Christmas, I was always short presents for Christmas because my mother would pull one or two of my Christmas presents that was wrapped in Christmas paper and give it to me for my birthday. Then one year on my 16th birthday, her pulling her little trick for my birthday present was SOCKS! Yea how nice to get not a package of socks a pair of socks.
Then every year since my husband and I have been married my in laws want to celebrate MY birthday with my husbands who's birthday is five weeks AFTER mine. That's been going on for over 20 years.
So when Tina came up with this idea that everyone gets their birthday month to pick a book to read, I was actually excited, yea right, should of known not to get excited about it, I will take the blame for that one. I even hinted AFTER you guys picked the Dec. read, In the topic This n' That, Misc. Topics. Catch All Drawer in post 503 I made a remark, in post 504 Tina replied, and in post 505 J replied. Happy belated birthday, Jill. Seems we owe you a birthday month pick. If I recall right, you were promised a title selection for your birthday and as I had my head somewhere else for the occasion, I think it only fair that you should be able to pick title for Feb. Would everyone be okay with that? So sorry, Jill! Hope it was a happy one!

Happy belated birthday, LM! I believe we posted our dates before you got to The Parlor. Maybe we could let you pick a side read for Feb.
Everyone else got to do there birthday month, so why couldn't I?, No one had to share their month with anyone else, but because you're "thowing" me a month now I'm to share it. NO, I won't, I don't want to, I would of loved to of had just once my birthday month, even if it's just a silly online book group, it would of been nice to have my own, instead of being an after thought, or having to share it with someone else. I AM NOT AN AFTER THOUGHT! So go ahead and give Feb. to BM let him have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
