20.1 (Super) Heroes
2) Read a non-fiction book by or about someone you consider heroic. Include and explanation of who you think is heroic and why. Books with the genre Sequential Arts are acceptable.

This book is by Congressman John Lewis, who was an instrumental figure in the 1960s civil rights movement. His goal was to change the world through nonviolence. He and his fellow Freedom Riders, riding a bus into the racially divided deep south, were faced with beatings, police brutality, imprisonment, and more. His commitment and courage led to his becoming one of the "Big Six" leaders of the civil rights movement. John Lewis faced incredible odds and grave physical danger and never gave up. I consider him and his actions very heroic indeed.

Book One: Blueberry Muffin Murder by Joanne Fluke
Book Two: The Chocolate Cat Caper by JoAnna Carl
Joanne and JoAnna
Task 20.1 - (Super)Heroes
Option Two: Book by someone you consider heroic
Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation by Bill Nye
Bill Nye is a heroic figure to me because he has spent a significant portion of his career trying to get children interested in science, in asking questions, and in being interested in the world around them. As both a pre-medical female student who did a lot of science classes and an elementary school employee who spends time in the classroom with kids almost every day, I know that having interest in the subject plays a huge role in learning. Bill Nye was doing his science programs when I was in elementary school and they made me interested in science. We're still using them in schools today, to help children be excited about science. It may not be classic heroism but I know Bill Nye has inspired me and many of my friends, and I find him heroic for that reason.

2) Read a non-fiction book by or about someone who you consider heroic.
Required: Include an explanation of who you think is heroic and why.
Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand
This book is about Louis Zamperini, an Olympic athlete who becomes a soldier and than a prisoner of war in Japan during World War II. I think the fast way he progressed in his sport career would be enough to call him a hero, but his experience in war proves that he is even a greater man. But what really made me think that he was a hero was the fact that he could recover after such an experience, and go on with his life, inspiring others with his story. This is an Olympic athlete, a war hero, but also and extraordinary man.

Miracle in the Andes by Nando Parrado
From the mp blurb about the book "Nando Parrado was unconscious for three days before he woke to discover that the plane carrying his rugby team, as well as their family members and supporters, to an exhibition game in Chile had crashed somewhere deep in the Andes... Nando, an ordinary young man with no disposition for leadership or heroism, led an expedition up the treacherous slopes of a snow-capped mountain and across forty-five miles of frozen wilderness in an attempt to find help. " And, obviously from the fact he lived to write this book, he did find help and saved the lives of several dozen people.

25.5 Amanda A's task: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
Replacing books for this task; no new points.
Initially I had used A Very Easy Death to claim Option A (Christmas Carol/Song: Very Merry Xmas), but that book is being removed to be used for a different task to be posted later. So I'll be using Option B and Option D instead.
Option B: Read a book with a Christmas decoration on the cover (Christmas tree, lights, ornament, wreath etc.) or a book by an author whose initials can be found in CHRISTMAS LIGHTS. Middle initials may be used or ignored.
Using the author initial option. All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders. Ignoring middle initial gives us CA, which is found in CHRISTMAS
Option D: book of your choice
Only Ever Yours by Louise O'Neill. I used this book in my original post.
