I don't live there now. I crossed the Pennines to perpetuate the Wars of the Roses!

Christine wrote: "Wow, what's the population of Manchester?"It's a bit of a strange one Manchester because Manchester and the surrounding areas became Greater Manchester some years ago. That encompasses the city of Manchester itself, the city of Salford and many large towns such as Stockport and Oldham. Altogether the population for Greater Manchester is about 2.5 million.
Quick question - On the list of 'My Books', in the author column, some authors have asterisks by their name. Anyone know why?
Freda wrote: "Quick question - On the list of 'My Books', in the author column, some authors have asterisks by their name. Anyone know why?"Freda could it be that they are on goodreads under that name?
Freda wrote: "Quick question - On the list of 'My Books', in the author column, some authors have asterisks by their name. Anyone know why?"I would guess GR authors, Freda.
gluts are going to be hurting in the morning I fear that was a bit of a burner of a workout. new personal best in my strength workout for back squat of 90kg. then there were more squats then there was a workout which included box steps and oh yeah more squats!!! thank crunchie its Friday tomorrow!!
Freda wrote: "Quick question - On the list of 'My Books', in the author column, some authors have asterisks by their name. Anyone know why?"I've checked. There are GR authors with and without the asterisks. I'm stumped.
Ok, I looked it up. I guess you all are right. I guess some authors haven't 'claimed' their profile on GR and that is why the asterisks are absent. They have a profile but haven't claimed it. Whatever that means. lol

I think that's what it is Freda. When I first joined Goodreads I thought I had set up my profile but it seems that I had only set up my profile as a reader. I then had to set up my profile as an author as well. When I look at my profile it is the author one that shows up and I presume that is the one that other people see. So there is also a reader one somewhere but I have no idea how to access that one. It's very confusing.

Mac, Welcome! We are glad to meet you and have you with us. Give us a name of a thriller you have read that none of us should miss reading!
I hope you all have a wonderful, beautiful weekend! I will be out of pocket with a LIFE retreat and then prison ministry on Sunday, so I will wish you all a good weekend now!
Hi, Mac - this is a fun, often funny, even silly group when we're not talking about books where someone has gone on a killing spree :-)
Interesting article at io9:10 Utterly Brilliant Novels That Have One Fatal Flaw
http://io9.com/10-brilliant-novels-th...
There’s no such thing as a perfect book — but some books feel as though they could be just about perfect, if they didn’t have one nagging problem. And sometimes, the most wonderful books have the most glaring shortfalls. Here are 10 amazing novels that are each marred by a fatal flaw.
Not been on too much , as off this week and being kept busy.
Yesterday played six frames of snooker 3-3.
Then went straight to external tennis, played four sets of tennis, for 3 hours.
I think my wife said, " Oh you have come home and remembered where you live "
But also lots of work in the garden planting, mowing, weeding, new herbs etc.
Cleaning sorting cupboards/food. Steam cleaning.
Kept busy every day, but also enjoyed some pub lunches out.
Also popping into our cousins house to feed/check and play with his four cats as he is away this week, then home to our four cats !
A week off and not had time to go for any long walks, which I like doing, just too busy.
How do I fit work in !!!!

Since I retired I have not idea how I managed to work 8 hours a day. I must not have had much of a life.
Yesterday went to an afternoon movie Ex Machina which was an interesting film. About artificial intelligence and it was very much a thriller.
Also, Best Buy was having a Mother's Day sale and I got a Samsung Galaxy S5 (the newest is the S6) and the S5 sold for $1.00. Yes, that is one dollar! Amazing! Now I just have to figure out how to use it since my old phone was an Apple iPhone!
Mac - no snobs here!

Just downloaded a debut called Lullaby Girl by Aly Sidgwick. Supposed to be really good and only 49p. On Amazon.
Janet wrote: "Hopefully you'll get it the introductory offer too."Not available here yet, Janet. I've had my eye on that one too.

Today in Jersey is a Public Holiday.
May 9th Liberation Day.
70 years today the island was liberated from the Germans.
Out for a walk with my wife, saw they using a field by school to bring in The Countess Of Wessex.

hope everyone having a good weekend :)

I'm worn out from your workout Sharon; I think I'll relax for awhile.
Yes
Andy Murray played his best clay court tennis and is now in the final tomorrow against R. Nadal.

Janet - yes, I got the Samsung S5 for a dollar and it is real! I'm using it now for this post as a matter of fact. I haven't upgraded my phone for 4 years and that was too much of a bargain. The new S6 was $199.99. Getting rid of last year's stock???

Pat wrote: "DianeAlice - I'm chuffing away!!!!"Although I want to congratulate you, I can't help being a bit suspicious. This type of things have happened at India before. Some electrical goods are sometimes sold for almost free but later the customers find out several faults in those as time rolls on. Look, don't get me wrong. I am very very happy for you Pat! It is just that I have heard some bad things before. :(
