Don't think you're wide of the mark at all - we all add our own personal opinions and rules to theses challenges!
In my case the only one I wouldn't have counted is the night stalker for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time but you've given me a couple of ideas for my last few -thank you x

Actually, Blagica, having just read a bit back in this thread I've noticed a few people doing it as you are, so I'm going to follow this thread to see what feedback you get from the mods. If it's more loosey goosey I may be able to add a few more! ;)

I've done it the same way as you Blagica because the examples given of what is allowed say you can do it that way.
Allowed
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle (the "wind" here means something different than the "wind" in Gone with the Wind but is spelled the same way)
The Princess Bride ("prince" from The Little Prince can be found here in its entirety)
So in my opinion you are correct and I am doing it the same way.

But in Blagica's list 3, 9, 10, 12 and 13 aren't the same as in the list: wind/unwind, dream/dreams, luck/luckiest, bird/blackbirds, book/playbook...
The rules state: 'Read a book that contains in its title a word that can be found in each of the classic book titles. The word needs to be there in its entirety'. These are not.
If it doesn't matter it doesn't matter, but just let the rest of us know as I've discounted a few books because they didn't match :)
@ Pixie:I'm not a mod or the creator of the challenge but.... If you read the rules in the first post you'll see that this is perfectly fine:
Read a book that contains in its title a word that can be found in each of the classic book titles. The word needs to be there in its entirety; however, homographs (words that are spelled the same but mean different things) and words within words count. Articles (a, and, the) and any two letter words do not count.
Allowed
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle (the "wind" here means something different than the "wind" in Gone with the Wind but is spelled the same way)
The Princess Bride ("prince" from The Little Prince can be found here in its entirety)
Not Allowed
Cat and Mouse ("mouse" is a variation of "mice" from Of Mice and Men but "mice" is not in the title)
Think and Grow Rich (the word to match is "grows" from A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, but only the first four letters "grow" are here)...
The word does not have to retain its meaning, but there can not be missing letters, like going from plural to singular (birds-bird) or tense (grows-grow). The only exception to this rule I've seen is Alice's where Alice has been approved.

I think you could interpret it either way from the rules until you read the examples where it shows that it is the words from the classic titles you need to match in their entirety. So if you can have princess from prince then you can have blackbirds from bird. So I think Blagica is all good and you can maybe use some of your other books.
Well that's not how I read it at all, so i'd be interested to hear a mod's take on it. But if so, super!
Update to update!After recent discussions, and revisiting my 2016 read list, it now actually seems that I have beaten my target. So it was worth asking! I will keep going to see how many more I can tick off though.

God no. It was my fault! The irony of me misunderstanding the rules is quite exquisite. lol. Still, all's well that ends well, etc.
I adjusted my goal from 25 to 20, so my stats right now are 15/20.

25. The Good Earth -Battlefield Earth:A Saga of the Year 3000 10-25-16
Just completed #4 (Wrinkle in time) - The Time in Between by Maria Duenas. While I appreciated the overall story, the characters, and learning about the Spanish civil war, this was not an easy read for me. I don't know if it's the author's writing or the translation, but the prose did not flow. Worth reading but it takes some time to get into the story. 3.5 stars16/20

Sorry to have let this go so long without an official mod ruling! I've been moving in to a new apartment and haven't been able to check in as frequently as usual. Still unpacking some boxes, but mostly moved in now. :)As a rule of thumb, we're fine with people making the challenge as strict or loose as they like.
In this case, though, all of Blagica's books fit the stated criteria.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask!

congrats on the new place. have fun unpacking that was my favorite part when we moved making at least my personal space the way I want it. as far as the ruling thanks for letting me know I didn't want to have to start all over
No worries! We'd never make you start over - if you're reading and matching things up and having fun, that's all good to us. :)This is the first time I've ever moved. I've lived with my parents up until this point, so it's truly my own space. It still feels kind of like a hotel, but in a fancy luxurious kind of way, not an imposter in my new home sort of way. It's nice, but it's a very new routine to get used to.

I was under the impression that if a book I read had a word from the titles listed it would count have i completely missed the mark lol?
