Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Eileen Wilk's World of the Lupi
Voted as our 2016 series read

Members are welcome to read as few or as many books within this series as they'd like. The series read will run from 1 Jan - 31 Dec 2016 ~ 1 book a month. You may list and track your books here, use the group challenge, or both. It's up to you. **For instructions on how to set up a challenge-specific shelf, see Lauren's post. This challenge will be open 1/1/2016.

Please feel free to share your thoughts on the books as you read. I ask that you use spoiler tags to avoid spoiling something for someone who hasn't yet read the book.

Eileen has listed the series reading order on her website, which includes short stories available for free on her website or within an anthology.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9661 comments İ only read the first book, should be a good opportunity to rediscover this series.

message 4: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Yay! I'd like to read them all again, might read Mind Magic first though. LOL

Danielle Book Boss (daniellebookboss) | 1009 comments Oh cool!!! I've been circling around this series for years. I'll take the plunge in 2016!

message 6: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I'm excited this was chosen too. I read the first three books in 2009 and haven't returned to the series. No particular reason for it -- most likely got distracted by the shiny & new out there. I'm happy to have some motivation to return to the series :)

message 7: by Alisa (new)

Alisa I'm excited to see this chosen. I've read the first 5 and then got sidetracked. I love Rule. It will be great motivation to get back in the series and get caught up.

message 8: by Rachel-RN (new)

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments Maybe this will be my motivation to start this series. I've heard good things about it.

message 9: by Gisela (new)

Gisela (chicadorlando) | 1 comments I enjoyed book 1 and meant to read book 2 but never got around to it. Now I have an excuse to ignore housework and read... LOL

message 10: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments Oh I am so jealous of all of you reading this series for the first time. The books are wonderful and so original. Best kept secret in Urban Fantasy.

message 11: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 585 comments Everyone has told me great things about this series. Can't wait to start!

message 12: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments I don't know if I've ever taken a second look at this series, but it sounds really good so I'll take the plunge.

How weird is it that one of the translated versions has the same cover as Moon Called?
Peligro Tentador (Mundo de los Lupi, #1) by Eileen Wilks Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs

message 13: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I've seen so many dup cover art, but not that one.

message 14: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments How weird is that! It doesn't fit Lily at all. She's a serious FBI agent not a crop top kinda gal. LOL.

message 15: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments Sandra wrote: "How weird is that! It doesn't fit Lily at all. She's a serious FBI agent not a crop top kinda gal. LOL."

Lily would never dress like that. No way.

message 16: by Kim (new)

Kim Shumaker (kim_shumaker) | 707 comments Are we going to read one full length novel a month (since there are 12 of them) or will the short stories be read as our "monthly" book? This is my first group series read and I'm not sure of how it works.

message 17: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Ah, I don't know Kim.

My guess is it will be the full length novels. But we'll let Steph tell us, she's usually not on GR on the weekends :)

message 18: by Kim (new)

Kim Shumaker (kim_shumaker) | 707 comments I went back to the Home Page and clicked on Upcoming Reads and it has the books listed as just the full length novels - Tempting Danger 1/1 - 1/31; Mortal Danger 2/1 - 2/29, etc. I think it will work better that way because we will get to finish the series (at least up through Mind Magic).

message 19: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Yeah, I have (full) books 1-12 marked as our upcoming BOM for each month throughout 2016. Of course, you're welcome to read the novellas and share your thoughts on this series read page, if you'd like. :)

message 20: by Kim (new)

Kim Shumaker (kim_shumaker) | 707 comments Awesome! I'm looking forward to reading a complete series throughout the year.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I just ordered the first book.

AH | 2271 comments Erin (Paperbackstash) wrote: "I just ordered the first book."

You're in for a treat. It really is a wonderful series and it needs to be promoted. Best of all, there's plenty of books to read while you are waiting for the newest one.

Great, I hadn't heard of it before for some odd reason. It should be here soon.

message 25: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments I read the first book in the series and I've been meaning to get to the rest. I'll join you guys starting in Feb! Maybe I'll read the novellas in the meantime. :)

message 27: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) | 2441 comments I heard great things about this series, so I'm in to. (One of mine new year resolutions is to read more uf.) :)

message 28: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Question...are we going to a get a thread for each book?

message 29: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Well, we didn't for The Hollows. So I'm guessing not, unless you see some merit in that D.G.

message 30: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Put a hold on book #1 at the library. Should get it in the next week or so.

message 32: by Minuska (new)

Minuska (minuskaa) | 132 comments I just started reading this serie at the end of 2015 so happy to join :)

message 33: by Minuska (new)

Minuska (minuskaa) | 132 comments I wonder, how can anyone go only 1 book per month.. it would have to be a really bad series for me to read less than 5 a month...

message 34: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments DG, you're welcome to create a thread for any/all individual books in the series, if you'd like to chat about them that way. If you want to do that, we can create a SERIES READ folder for easy reference.

If the chatter stays in this thread, I ask that spoiler blocks are used whenever necessary to keep those new to the series from being spoiled.

Minuska, you're welcome to read ahead. We host one a month, but I definitely understand how hard it can be to hold off on a series where all books are available.

message 35: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) | 2441 comments I have finished reading Tempting Danger (World of the Lupi, #1) by Eileen Wilks .
This is the first time I am reading this series and the first half of the book was really tough. A lot of characters and a lot of things going on. When I got the hang of it whos-who (especially in police department) and whats-what it got better.
In short: first book didn't exactly blow my mind, but I see potential for it to be a very good uf series. I will definitely read more.
Until next month... ;)

message 36: by Raquel (Rocki) (new)

Raquel (Rocki) (raquelrocki) | 1005 comments I also just finished the first book I am glad this series got picked to read otherwise I would have never picked up this series and it does have a lot of potential I really enjoyed the first book.

message 37: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments *pacing in the background* - Glad you are all enjoying this series. The world building is so nicely done and you are all in for a treat. While there are a lot of characters to keep track of, you'll see that there are a few to keep an eye on.
Enjoy!

message 38: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I read 1-3 in 2009, so I'll need to re-read those to refresh my memory.

Anyone listened to the audiobooks? How's the narration?

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I haven't started yet but I got the book in the mail and it's ready for me to read.

message 40: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Finished my re-read of #1 today.

I'd forgotten so much of what happened, esp since I first read it in 2010. I enjoyed it so much I went from 4 stars to 5.

message 41: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I'll be interested to see how my rating changes, if any. I originally rated it 3-stars, but I can't remember much.

message 42: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments That's it, I didn't remember as much as I thought I did either.

What do you guys think of Lily and Rule?
What about the pack politics and structure?
The world building?

message 47: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I've just started my re-read of book 1. I'm really enjoying it. I'll jump into the discussion when I've finished.

Interesting portrayal of the interactions between the humans and the werewolves (and perhaps other species). As expected there is prejudice and bias, of course, there is also bias against female detectives too...

Rosina | 1714 comments I managed to squeeze in some time to read and just finished Ch 6.

My mind keeps drifting to other series Psy-Changeling & Mercy Thompson. Not sure why.

Loving it so far. I like the detective and squad room aspect. Makes me think of Law & Order. I keep hearing the music in my head when I read those scenes.
