The New York Times bestselling author of Mind Magic returns as FBI agent Lily Yu gets some very bad news…

Lily learns she was right. Tom Weng—a powerful sorcerer allied with the Old One who keeps trying to take over the world—is still alive. But that's not the worst. Weng is a dragon spawn, the product of a botched hatching given a human form in an attempt to keep him fro

The good news - there's another book planned for this series.
The bad news - hell of a cliffhanger ending.

Dragon Spawn is a good, if unfinished read. There are two storylines going on here. In one, Rule is challenged as Leidolf Rho by high dominant lupus. Apparently, high dominants are completely unable to submit to the Rho. The other storyline is the one that takes up most of the page time.

The botched dragon hatching Tom Weng survived the helicopter crash, and he is back with the Great Bitch, who has taken over the body of Ginger Harris. Together they cause several disasters that occ

Action-packed supernatural story with lively writing and fantastic world building! There is a plethora of supernatural creatures in this novel my favorite being dragons. The written descriptions of the dragons are just beautiful. I also like the inclusion of gnomes and brownies in the story. I enjoy it when t

*My Thoughts*

Dragon Spawn, by author Eileen Wilks, is the 13th installment in the World of the Lupi series. This is a story where the hits start from the very beginning, and don't end until the cliffhanger ending, which I believe is the first of its kind in this series. Right from the start, Lily Yu, Unit 12 Special Agency, Chosen, & mate to Rule Tanner, has her job cut out for her. From a surprising visit from someone Cullen has been search

My Take
Wait. Don't get this book until Dragon Blood comes out in 2017. Dragon Spawn has the most annoying ending. I felt as if Wilks left me hanging in mid-air after jumping off a cliff, much like Wile E Coyote hangs there until he realizes there's nothing beneath him.

It took forever for Wilks to get to the po

( stars. I discovered this series on my own a few years ago. I loved the world, the characters, and just about everything about it, and I ended up reading the first three. Then I got involved in too many other series and just never went back until Mind Magic, the book just previous to this one. Of course I wanted to jump in and read this one as soon as I saw it offered on Net Galley. And while it was good, it just didn’t live up to how good Mind Magic was-at least for me anyway ...more
As always, I enjoyed spending time with my old friends from the world of the Lupi. However, everyone should be aware that this time, for the first time, Ms. Wilks couldn't fit a whole crisis and rescue mission story-arc into one book.

Luckily, I was forewarned, which means I didn't hit the ending with a sense of betrayed disappointment, but I do wish publishers (indie or trad) would make it clear right in the cover and online-description copy. Given the way even poorly constructed serials (just
This would have been a 5 Star read for me except for the cliffhanger ending!! 4 1/2 Stars

Oh boy, more Lily, Rule and a host of others!!

What I liked: When you wait for almost a year or more for an installment in a favorite series, you hope it’s worth the wait; Dragon Spawn WAS worth the wait and yet, not. First things first….

I love this series when Lily and Rule are the stars as that is how I fell in love with it oh, so many years ago. I mean think about it, magic, dragons, Lupi, shifters, demons

This book was marvelous!

I read this right after Mind Magic so I was already in the "mind set" for the world and maybe that made it affect me more? Who knows?
In this book both Lily and Rule go to Dis/hell, this time with clothes on. It's still creepy and the demons inhabiting hell are mondo sinister. The Prince they had to deal with ... was *really* freaky. They have to go to Dis because Rule’s son, Rider, and sons of other Lupi clans had been kidnapped for nefarious reasons by Tom Weng (though i

World of the Lupi is an excellent example of an Urban Fantasy. Mrs. Wilks has created a fantastic universe with some pretty memorable characters!

I get excited whenever a new book comes out because I can't wait to see what new adventure Lily, Rule, Cullen, and Cynna are about to embark on together.

Dragon Spawn is good from the very beginning. It has an excellent prologue, not because Cullen is wearing a speedo (which doesn't hurt) but because it gives you a taste of his commitment towards his f

Dragon Spawn by Eileen Wilks is the 13th book in her World of the Lupi series. This series is still going strong and the world building is truly astonishing.

Dragon Spawn is roller coaster ride of a read. This series is one of my favorites and I always start to get nervous when one of my favorite series is pushing over 10 publications. I start worrying about things like (because these things HAVE HAPPENED MANY TIMES):

If Lily and Rule thought things were intense during their last adventure, the old enemies step up the game and push them to desperation when Rule's son and other Lupi children are taken. Attacks on multiple fronts and a complex plan still in the works has everyone scrambling to meet the new threat.

The World of the Lupi series is thirteen books strong and still leaving me groaning with frustration (in a good way) for the release of the next book. Again, I've said it in previous reviews, but this

Remember earlier books were there was an actual case that Lily investigated and solved as she and Rule learnt about each other and how to balance the mate bond and Rule dealt with Lupi politics. Yeah me too. What the hell happened to those – they were good.

This is a case of too much going yet there is no follow through on any of it so instead we get lots of boring explanations, dragon lectures (but god forbid they explain anything) and long detailed descriptions of things with no actual story pr

Lily and Rule are back on the West Coast and hoping their last encounter with the Great Bitch foiled her plans for a while. Rule has to deal with a Challenge (to the death) for his rule of the Leidolf clan. But the challenge is interrupted when Sam summons them to tell them that their enemy Tom Weng was not killed as they thought.

Sam also shares some information about dragons that is a closely held secret. Baby dragons have to be given the first syllable of their names through mind magic when th

I really like this series but I couldn't be more disappointed in this latest novel. It got downright tedious a lot. Pages and pages of convoluted dragon-speak, pages of detailed description of multiple varieties of monsters, pages of excessive chatter by humorous characters all added to the verbal bog. Add to this the sheer chaos of crises on every front and I found myself getting numb and skimming to be done. In the end there was no payoff for wading through all the verbiage and unrelenting dis ...more

Lily Yu, one of my favorite female protagonists in the paranormal genre, once again shows that you do not need magic or werewolf strength to kick ass. Her kick assness mainly comes from logically analyzing and proceeding in the best manner possible. In Dragon Spawn we see a different side of Lily. Normally, she fills the role of friend, lover, and investigator, but when the children of the werewolf population falls in harms way we see her softer, maternal side. For me, this was something that wa ...more

I really wanted give this 3.5 stars rather than 4. I couldn't give it three, because it kept me interested, and on the edge of my seat in many places, as a well-written urban fantasy should. Be warned, though - the book is a gigantic cliffhanger! Now, to be fair, the Lupi books have an ongoing plot thread that carries on from book to book - however, that is not what I'm talking about here. My problem is that several major events take place in this book, and not one of them is resolved by the end ...more

Another great book in one of my favorite series, Eileen hits it out of the park with this one. I assume that everyone picking up this book is very familiar with the series, why else pick up book 13? So I'm a very surprised at some of the reviews I've seen here on Amazon complaining that this is a cliffhanger and that this is somehow unbearable. It's a series! It's always a cliffhanger! And this was a particularly important and very well thought out chapter in the story. The book moves the story ...more

After the ending of the last book, I expected this book to have a certain focus. That did not happen. Instead the book took off in a completely different direction. I wasn't sure at first, if I would like the plot, but I did.

Some of the characters remained a little flat at first, but others took an interesting step forward. Lily Yu changed so much from the first books! A lot more badass! And Rule turned into a much softer guy.

There was a lot of info dumping shortly after the middle of the book,

Well, it seems the enemy will never seize messing with the world of the lupis and their allies. This time around it seems to be from all fronts and a bit too much for me as a reader to want to grapple with. This latest edition is just too wordy and descriptive to my liking. I am not reading towards my thesis for heavens sake. Jeez. Then, kids were involved. As young as 4 months old. That certainly weird me out. Lily and Rule don't get to settle into homelife after the last big battle before another crisis turns up. This time, it's not just one problem but more than one...

Someone has Challenged Rule.
Toby and other Lupi children are kidnapped.
Some enemies who were supposed to be dead, aren't.
The Great B*tch's master plan is set into motion.

And that's all early in the story! Luckily Lily has some wonderful friends and family who are willing to stand by her side, take a bullet or shoot mage-fire in order t
Lily works for the FBI in the paranormal unit. The world is in crisis and it only gets worse in this book. Turns out that one of the secrets dragons have been hiding are psychopath offspring. Not dragons, these hatchlings were turned into human in attempt to keep them from going mad. It didn't work. Now Lily and the Lupi are confronted with one of these hatchlings.

Why I started this book: My hold at the library was finally available.

Why I finished this book: The story clips along a great rate. T

I usually love this series and although this book was good I have to agree with other reviewers in that there was a decent amount of 'filler' (over descriptive in lots of places).
But the main thing that made me give such a low rating compared to what i normally would, is simply the way the book ended. It literally starts a new chapter then three short paragraphs (so not even a full page) later the book ends with the words 'Rule groaned'. I have never had a book that has ended like that before (
Need the next book now. Bloody cliffhanger.

Toby, Ryder (Cynna & Cullen's daughter), and three other Lupi children are kidnapped and taken to Dis. Rule, Lily, Cynna, Cullen, Grandmother, Benedict, and Gan (the orange demon) all set off to the hell planet to save the children.

P.S. Dirty Harry better be okay.

Notable quote:

Lily had claimed Toby. Did that mean the same to her it as did to him? Did she know what it meant to him? Claiming was different from simply loving. Affection could wax or wa

I bloody hate cliffhangers! This one ends with a huge one. It is like a full length novel cut right in the middle. Nothing is resolved, no clue what's going on. Not like Wilks at all.

I remember reading a comment from Wilks saying something about if we ever see Michael and Molly again, it means that shit hits the fan in an apocalyptic sense. As you can guess, we have our first glimpse of him here. This is the start of the last leg of war and I think we are getting close to the end of the series.

Wow, this book was intense!! Lily and Rule get put to the test when Toby and other children are kidnapped by the Great B*tch. They have to return to Dis to find them. This author is a wonderful world builder. With each book in this series, I am enthralled from the first page to the end.

This book does end on a cliffhanger and I have seen that a lot of readers are angry about that. I really don't understand why. I usually like a HEA but this is a continuing story so I have come to expect cliffhang

Man, this series just keeps picking up the pace, but the story lines are so complicated that it's a bit tricky to keep track of what is going on. Note to future self, re-read this one before you read the next one, or you will probably not be able to follow it, and they are in the middle of a heck of a cliffhanger. Actually, probably re-reading mind magic and then this one would be good. This particular story arc seems to really start there.

Nonetheless, still like the characters and appreciate th
Yes, the book was good. However, it was incomplete, so I am giving an incomplete amount of stars. It's only fair.

It's like when you are watching your favorite television show and it's coming to the end of the allotted time when you realize: "Oh crap! They aren't going to be able to wrap this up in time!". It's one of the dreaded to-be-continued episodes. That's annoying!

So, we have half of an otherwise exciting story. I might reconsider my stars once the full story is out.

Dragon Spawn was not overly impressive. Lily and Rule's enemy is back and she's found a way to kidnap Toby and Ryder, along with three other lupi children. Now it's up to Lily, Rule and their friends to rescue the children. The only problem is, they've been taken to Dis. This story line has gone on for way too long and this book doesn't end, but is continued in Dragon Blood. The series would probably be more enjoyable if there were a variety of story lines and the stories didn't always revolve a ...more
