Do you like to read books that are told from the Dog's perspective? A Dog's Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron is a great book. (Sorry can't link because I'm on the app).
The book after that is A Dog's Journey.
He is a great author but his books will make you cry, laugh and yell...at least they did me :)
For YA I've been reading The Mortal Instruments series. It is kind of a Twilight meets Harry Potter, at least that is what I have gotten from the series :) there is a bit of girl chases boy cliche's though:)
Can you give us a quick rundown of what you normally read? Hard to know what's different without that ;)Maybe a couple of your favourites,
Do you like fantasy novels? If so, I would highly recommend 'The Riyria Revelations' series by Michael J. Sullivan. It is jam packed with action, adventure, intrigue, humour and more. The two lead characters, Hadrian and Royce, are just fantastic. I read a fair bit of fantasy and these books are some of my all time favourites. They are just so much fun! Here are the links in case you want to check them out:Theft of Swords
Rise of Empire
Heir of Novron
@Stephanie I'll give the dog's book a shot, it is different than what I normally read .. I've never read twilight but I read Harry Potter long ago, I didn't like how things ended up, and I'm staying as far as I can from Twilight series. @Rusalka Well, usually I would go for classics and fantasies. My most fav book is The Hobbit, it's a classic, full of adventures and fantasies, but for a change I'm currently reading The Thirteenth Tale, I saw someone reading it in the group and thought of giving it a try, it is very nicely written and I am really enjoying it! And then someone else recommended The Last Juror, another book I won't pick, and it turned out to be a nice read. Thats why I'm looking for your recommended book, something I woun't usually pick up.
@Lisa That sounds great, I'll add those to my list :D
@Bella Nothing specific. Any genres will do. Just nothing cliche .. Got bunch of those on my shelf
Towards the end of the year, we often discuss our favourite books of the year. I know there are a couple threads in this section. Here's last years one - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
What about historical fiction? A few I enjoyed and would recommend are:The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
The Orchardist
Orphan Train
Burial Rites
Cold Mountain
I picked only 5, buy if you are interested in more, I can suggest some more. I read a lot of historical fiction, it's my favorite genre, so just let me know. :)
And what it happening to you is very usual in this group. I have read so many books our of my comfort zone since I joined it!
@Sarah ooh that sounds great .. I'll check it out, thanks for the link ;D@Sandra I used to add whatever and ended up with a lot of abandoned books ! So I'm trying to avoid that and get something which would really be a really nice reading. I never tried historical fiction books, I should give them a try, thanks for the list I'll see what I can find at the book store.
Thanks CFDeeDee. I'll have a think over night for you.I'm just going to move this thread into the Book Recs folder, but we can still chat in there with ideas for you!

One of my favorite historical fiction series is Colleen McCullough's Masters of Rome. The first book is The First Man in Rome. I think the series is almost 7,000 pages long, so it's a commitment, but it's excellent. If you want to try some non-fiction, Fastest Things on Wings: Rescuing Hummingbirds in Hollywood by Terry Masear was charming. Non-fiction for people who don't normally like NF.

If you are looking for some YA that is different from the norm, Forbidden and Hurt by Tabitha Suzuma are some of the best that I have come across in recent years. They are both very hard hitting and thought provoking. They do deal with difficult/taboo subject matters though so they are not for everyone but they are well worth checking out if you think you might be interested.
Wooow guys that is really helpful .. I'll get started right away on adding a bunch to my list.I recognize some titles which I've seen while trying to buy some books, but I never picked them up, next time I'll make sure I get them!
Thank you all, don't mind if you have more recommendations :D
The more the merrier
Sandra wrote: ""ROLF! I was just thinking the same thing. It is hard to keep my mouse from clicking on more titles.
The Dalai Lama's Cat this was recommended by Connie Ava Catherine in the cryptogram thread - it is charming and everyone should read it!

I've tried few YA books .. Most if 'em were cliché ! I hate little girl running away and she meets her "prince charming" along the way and end up together .. So I try to stay away from such books.
What would you recommend for me?
