Peter Upton Hello everyone,
My book 'Candles on The Ganges' is now in its last seven days of a Giveaway for three signed copies of the 1st edition. Thank you to everyone who has already entered the competition and to those of you who sent your best wishes.
At the start of the competition I had no friends at all on the Goodreads site yet the Giveaway has still attracted over 600 entrants. How many of those 600 will eventually go on to actually read the book I have no idea but to have reached so many is a tribute to the power of Goodreads.
The book is a true account of my own spiritual journey to an experience of enlightenment told while travelling through some of the holy places of India. My hope is that the book could change your life but at the very least I believe you will find it thought provoking.
If you want to read a few chapters of the book to see if you want to enter the competition you can go to amazon kindle ebooks where a free download of the first few chapters is available.
Thank you for reading this and good luck with the competition!

Hey Michael-
Take a look at the excerpt of my book on Amazon and see if it grabs you- "Calamity Jane: How the West Began." Historical fiction more than Western. If it does interest you, I could email you a file in return for an honest review. Bryan

Hi Bryan. Have a look at Pegasus to Paradise (also on amazon). If you like the look of it perhaps we can review each others books. Had a quick look at Calamity Jane and happy to proceed.

I have read in these pages that Amazon frowns on review exchanges, so I am not comfortable doing that. Glad to send you a copy still if you are interested.

J.D. Woodson (jdwooodson) | 1 comments Greetings everyone,
I'll introduce myself as J.D. I'm one of those green debut authors. I haven't been on Goodreads for too long but I'm ready to make some new friends of authors and reviewers both. I'm an author of Speculative Fiction and my first work, A Space Between Worlds Vol.1: Conception, was published by Royal James Publishing, a small press situated in Utah.

Eileen Putman (eileenput) | 1 comments Hi, all:
I'm an author of historical and regency romance, gradually learning how to navigate Goodreads groups. (I'm finding it's a bit like a maze with way too many intriguing avenues to explore.) Anyway, I've just finished Book #4 in my Love in Disguise series. It has a number of reviews but I'm always happy for more so I'll post that in the appropriate request area, assuming I can find it. Looking foward to learning from this group!

Jo Ho (jo_ho) | 2 comments Hi everyone! Having been an avid reader my whole life - I love YA, particularly The Hunger Games and The Mortal Instruments (basically anything with kickass female leads), and also fantasy series like The Belgariad by David Eddings. I'm now trying my hand at self-publishing that all important first book, a YA thriller called WANTED)

I'm a screenwriter by trade (I created the BBC action fantasy kid's show, SPIRIT WARRIORS) which stars Jessica Henwick (Game of Thrones, Star Wars:The Force Awakens and Marvel's upcoming Iron Fist) and Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange, Marco Polo).

I specialise in high concept ideas so if you want monsters or dystopia starring a teen female lead, then I'm your girl. If like me, you're a geek obsessed with Buffy, then you'll probably like my work :)

I'm newly joined to GR and in dire need of some friends so do drop me a line - I'm nice, I promise!

In the meantime, happy reading! - Jo

Irene Brew (womanreadsbooks) | 1 comments Hi, thank you for allowing me to join the group. My name is Irene aka womanreadsbooks, and I'm from just outside Birmingham in England. I eventually set up a blog earlier this year after being told to do so for about 5 years.

I love reading (obviously) all genres, perhaps with the exception of vampire stories. I've passed this passion on to my childhood who are rapidly accumulating lots of books themselves! I post all reviews on my blog and positive ones I like to share on goodreads, though I'm just trying to figure out my way around here.

Hello Everyone,

My name is Chris Swinney. I'm a deputy sheriff. I'm also an author of crime fiction, true crime, poetry, and short stories (14 published books/novels under my pen name of C. L. Swinney). I started Goodreads as an avid reader and reviewer. Reviews are very important for authors and readers. Although I don't review as much as I used to (some people find it tacky that authors review other authors) I still write reviews and will use a different name. If you have something you'd like me to read, let me know.

Thank you,

Chris

Eric | 4 comments Hello. My name is Eric Stoffle. I enjoy writing mystery/suspense and have just released my novel Trading Lives. Of course, like any author I'd love positive reviews. It's hard not to feel invisible in the author space.

I do believe Trading Lives is a worthwhile read and provides some nice twists. Trading Lives began when I wanted to explore a critical character in another novel I had been working on called The Trespass. Jamie Kelly was such a competent and dangerous sidekick, I had to explore her background.

I hope you take a moment and follow me as well as look at/review my novel. I would be honored.

Michael Bergen (michaelgbergen) | 2 comments Hello
My name is Michael G. Bergen (Mike) and I have just published my first historical fiction novel called Storm over South Africa, the 1st part of a four part historical series called The Rutherford Chronicles. I would appreciate someone interested in this genre to review my book of 234 pages and approximately 85,000 words.

Storm over South Africa follows the lives and tribulations of a diverse group of characters through the Second Anglo-Boer War from 1899-1902 in South Africa. They belonged to different levels of the opposing societies and the story follows their actual life and death experiences in this conflict.

The characters include the seventeen year old son of a Boer president; a young shipbuilding dock worker and his military nurse girlfriend from the industrial north-east of England, and a young Canadian soldier who volunteered for Canada’s first campaign outside its borders. Involved too are such illustrious British participants as Winston Churchill, Field marshal Frederick Roberts and Generals Kitchener, Ian Hamilton and Robert Baden-Powell among others. Boer leaders involved include Generals Christiaan de Wet, Louis Botha, Koos de la Rey and Jan Smuts.

The reader is guided through the various twists and turns of the first major British conflict of the 20th century from its beginning through to its end. The naivety and excitement of combatants in the lead up to and beginning of the Second Anglo-Boer War was contagious. It pulled many naive young men into the maelstrom of combat. The failures, frustrations, disappointment, disillusionment and sufferings soon emerge. It is a tale of imperial arrogance and determination, of stubbornness, innocence, love and loss experienced in a rugged and alluring land far from the heart of the British Empire.

My contact details are within Goodreads but my email address is michaelgbergen@gmail.com

We are looking to network with other authors and get some honest reviews and feedback.
Please say hello and lets chat :)

Shashi | 19 comments Hi, I am an Interior designer, spiritual blogger - adjudged by prominent blog aggregators, including IndiBloggers, as No 1 spiritual Blogger of India, for last three years. And yes, I have written my first of three book series "The Monk Key" - Songs of the Mist

Here is a review of my book at Amazon by a prominent author, script writer and Play writer - Timeri N Murari.
____

Despite our successes and the advent of technology, many of us still yearn for something more in our lives. Shashi has provided this spiritual release in his beautiful book Songs of the Mist: first of the 3-part in the Monk Key Series.
Shashi takes us on an exploratory journey not only of the Himalayas but also self discovery through the 5 protagonists he has created in this unusual and thought provoking book. Within the tradition of our culture and history, these characters, like the Buddha, like Gurunanak, and so many others, his characters are on a search for the answers that are ultimately within us. - Timeri N Murari
___
I will be very grateful if you can read it and review. It is also available on Kindle and various online platforms across the world and many book stores.
Cheers

I am a writer of contemporary horror/suspense fiction. I am new to GoodReads, so just trying to integrate into the community currently!

I am a big fan of horror movies and books. I guess old school Stephen King remains my favorite material.

Both my currently available short stories are available free on Smashwords, if anyone would like to read and or review (negative or positive!).

I will aim to be as visible as possible in the coming weeks!

Best!

I am new here. Just popped in to say "hi"
I enjoy paranormal series and horror books
Loved The Mortal Instruments and Sweep. Also love Ellie Jordan and The Lockwood & Co series.

Hi, I'm Brooke.

I'm an author and book lover. I write the kind of books I love to read — suspenseful thriller romances. I tend to read mostly in this genre, with Nora Roberts, Sandra Brown and Linda Howard being my favorite authors. I do also love historical fiction and some fantasy.

I try to read 3-4 books per month (1-2 fiction, 1 business, and 1 spiritual). I don't always get the balance right because once I fall in love with a fiction writer I tend to binge read every book they've written :P

It's nice to meet you all -B.

Alistair Potter | 10 comments Hi,

I live in not-always-sunny Scotland (the very top bit of the UK), and I write SF and Fantasy adventures. I've been lurking in the background for a bit to see how things work, but have decided to go public.

In e-book format, I've self-published 3 Fantasy novels in a series called The Sunset of Magic, and an SF story, The Box of Tricks.

I've been getting back some nice 5 star reviews and ratings through Amazon UK, Goodreads and Readers' Favorite across the novels.

I'm hoping to get a little more 'review' presence in the US. Amazon UK reviews don't appear on the Amazon US (Amazon.com) website, but US ones appear anywhere you have the book listed with Amazon. (...which is just a little annoying!)

I've a website here; www.alipotter.co.uk with details of existing books and new projects.

My next project "Perax Frontier" is another SF adventure. I'm in the middle of the polishing phase, but there's a link to a draft first chapter on my website.

I'm hoping to get more involved with reviewing and feedback when 'my kind of novel' shows up.

Cheers, Alistair

Brenda Davies | 5 comments Hi, I'm a new author of historical romance, just getting my bearings on Goodreads groups etc. I'm finding it hard to devote time to book promotion when I just want to get back to writing, how do other writers manage their time?
My book has been described as a Regency romance that breaks all the rules and that's probably because I don't know what the rules are! Do you really have to read books in the genre you write in?

message 443: by Shashi (new)

Shashi | 19 comments Over a period of some years, I have been writing reviews of new authors at my blog which has more than Half Million hits and read by 700+ readers every day. Initially I reviewed most of my friend’s book but now I would like to do so more comprehensively, in order to help new authors to reach out to their target audience.

Hence I started a regular feature at my blog “Shadow Dancing With Mind“, displayed at the top right corner of my blog as SPOT LIGHT to promote new authors and help them to reach their target audience.

It is for FREE but I intend to be very selective about the books I going to feature in the SPOTLIGHT and give an honest review, as and when I do it.

THE SELECTION PROCESS FOR SPOTLIGHT:
If you fulfil the following requirements, please send me an email (you can find it here) to take the process forward…

Check out the link below for further info and process... http://themonkkey.com/calling-authors...

Hi Brenda,
Welcome to the group! No, you don't have to read in the genre you write in. Read in your favourite genre while you are busy writing, and this way reading won't seem like a task. You can view it as a break from writing.
