If I had my first choice, I'd say start this around November 15th, but I know others are excited. I just have other buddy reads that have claimed me for first week and a half in November. I'll have to catch up if you guys want to start on the first.

I just recently read the two that came out this year (#41 & 42) and wanted work through series and already have #1 ready to go. Nov 15 would be perfect since I'm in another group & have several others to get to. Plus by then I will figure out exactly how this works since it's my first time. :)

LaurLa: I know the feeling and I have others, too. I had started 2 chapters of #1 Naked in Death then waited, but then noticed it's due on 11/5 so I'll finish only that 1 on 4th or 5th, but take some notes for discussion on 15th and after. But for the rest, I will stay on track!

I usually post the chapters I'm commenting on and then the comments under spoilers so those who aren't as far can choose to skip or not. For me, this is my second read, so spoilers aren't a problem ;-p

I finished last night - I knew once I picked it up I wouldn't be able to put it down... I glommed this series before and I'm in danger of doing so again... But I want to savor it too because I truly enjoy the development of the characters in this series and don't want to miss out on it by reading too fast.

So where is everyone else? Finished, in the middle? What are your thoughts?

I liked it quite a bit. it had been recommended several times and has someone become a buy because I planned to read it someday. but I never even read the synopsis so it was surprising.

It's hard to remember since this was a reread for me if I guessed the first time through. I had a good suspiscion this time but I'm not sure if that's because I already knew (subconsciously) or if I picked up on the clues. But there was enough suspense to keep me on my toes and I was mildly surprised at the end.

I especially had forgotten the abrupt ending of the last scene. I kept thinking my copy of the ebook cut off the last pages... Ms Roberts certainly left me wanting MORE of Eve and Roarke! And now I'm eargerly awaiting the appearance of Peabody...

I had difficulty with their relationship on her part. I'd have thought she was too rigid to give in before the end of the case.

I really liked that world - a lot. I looked for more after the last page too. I'm anxious for book two but I have quite a few in front of it. I might not get to it until next month some time. (hide spoiler)]

I finished it late last night. It has been a very long time for me on this, and back then I wasn't as much of a fan of romantic suspense as I am now.

I didn't have it figured out until the end when Eve was figuring things out.

I thought it was pretty good overall and was also looking for more to read at the end of it. I look forward to the next book next month!

I'm a cynic and learned to read mysteries and suspense early on - they were my mother's favorites. those and adventure spies.

(view spoiler)[when the grandfather was introduced, I took his political bluster and strong-arm tactics as him at least being the mastermind and thought his sycophant had to have known. my brain decided the grandfather was so controlling he had to be involved somehow from the moment of the funeral.

I didn't guess the grandfather's reason or background. I thought it was a simpler motive, like political embarrassment.

I never suspected Roarke because and everything pointed to him making him too obvious. I did not suspect the police chief though. (hide spoiler)]

Eve and Roarke: (view spoiler)[ I never looked at the start of their relationship that way. Maybe because I am so used to reading RS and almost any RS book you read is going to consist of the conflict of what is happening in the book vs what is happening between the MCs, whether it's because the relationship between the 2 people isn't appropriate (like here with suspect and investigator) or because it just isn't appropriate to have any kind of relationship (you know, stuff is blowing up around them as they get it on...). But I never considered whether it was out of character for Eve to 'give in' so to speak before the end of the case. I guess I just attributed it to the fact that she never really believed he was involved and well, you know, it is a romance so love beats all, right? ha ha ;-) I mean, could you really resist Roarke - this super powerful alpha gazillionaire who was not only showing signs of attraction but also trying to take care of you when almost no one else ever does? Not me! In all seriousness I was glad that she gave in to her feelings because she is so rigid and self-controlled and rarely did anything for herself. Of course, some of that is me knowing more about the development of her character because I've read a further into the series and want her to have everything Roarke has to offer. (hide spoiler)]

I finished it today and really liked it. I can tell it's going to be a series that sucks me in. I'm so glad I've got 40 more books to go and didn't start it at the beginning as she was writing them. I hate waiting...

I had kinda-sorta accurate suspicions regarding the whodunnit, but was glad there was a lot more to the story than I would have guessed.

I like the idea of the setting being in the future. I think it gives Roberts/Robb a lot of leeway regarding how and where her story can go in the future.

I also thought Eve was too rigid. I scratch my head whenever I read that guys like it when the girl is "prickly". I guess if everyone else throws themselves at you, you'd like to work for it once in a while. ;)

December Buddy Reads Sign Ups just popped up. I made a note not to have this thread archived, and have adjusted it to the next book in the series.

So far, I only have 1 buddy read scheduled, and that one is for December 1st itself. I'd be totally ready to start this one around the 5th-7th, if anyone else is game.
