When we were reading the Heyer's before, they were divided by the detectives as Fantastic Fiction have them listed. Then someone at GR's mixed them together. Then I think Judy got them separated again, but now they are mixed again. I will join in for the ones we haven't covered already, also for everything else except the Blake's . This list helps enormously. Thanks Susan.
Some of us have discussed adding the Catherine Aird series as a buddy read. Some of the series we are currently reading are coming to a close - Nicholas Blake and Campion. As such, I have added the second in the series to April/May.
Jan/Feb

That's great. You will soon be up to book 3 and then I can join in. I really liked the first two, and it is a series I would love to get back to.
I'm happy. I'm further along in the series but loved my reread of book 1 (there are benefits to a short memory).
The Silver Pigs
the first Falco mystery is currently 99p. Judy mentioned she had meant to read it for a while, Carolien said it is a favourite and it is another series I have started, and stalled, on. Anybody interested in a buddy of the first, with a possible buddy series read?

I read the first one, but was a little disappointed after the praise it had been given, but would be interested in trying the next.
Jill wrote: "I read the first one, but was a little disappointed after the praise it had been given, but would be interested in trying the next."Same here, read the first fairly recently, enjoyed but not bedazzled! Definitely willing to try the second.
OK, interesting. How does everyone feel about setting up the first just to gauge interest then? If so, when would be a good time?
So let's schedule the first one. Here's the list of buddy reads so far:
Feb/March
The Deadly Joker by Nicholas Blake
Holy Disorders by Edmund Crispin
The Shortest Way to Hades by Sarah Caudwell
Comes a Stranger (Bobby Owen # 11) by ER Punshon

Is May too late? Can we fit another one to an earlier month?
Let me know your thoughts.

I’d probably skim or listen to the first book again to refresh my memory, and May is fine with me. Feb/March would be fine with me, also, for book 1, but I’m only reading the Crispin series; don’t know what everyone else’s mid-February into March reading plans look like!
May is fine with me - I'd also be happy to squeeze it into another month, though we do have a lot of titles coming up already!
I just posted the idea about a Falco buddy read on the Deals thread, because it´s been on my list forever, so I will join in! :) I thought perhaps instead of further Cadfael reads? I will only join in the Ocean Liner series, others only in case of interest or availability, as I didn´t start the Punshon or others in time. Every month okay with me.
We are about half way through the Cadfael series, it seems a shame to leave it now, unless others want to give it up.
I prefer to continue Cadfael but can read on my own if others aren't interested. May is fine with me though I can always fit in a reread if others are eager to start. The only series I am not doing is Freddie / Angela Marchmont, but Heyer, Flavia DeLuce, some of the Crispin's, and the early Aird's are all rereads.
Susan has said lots of times if two or more members want to read a series it is alright with the mods, as long as they are told so she can set up the topics and information. Members can then pick which series they are interested in and read those. I don't think that a series has to be stopped to fit in a new one.
Fine, let's add Falco in May. We don't want to overwhelm ourselves and no need to replace one series with another.
Which makes it:
Feb/March
The Deadly Joker by Nicholas Blake
Holy Disorders by Edmund Crispin (Gervase Fen #2)
The Shortest Way to Hades by Sarah Caudwell (Hilary Tamar #2)
Comes a Stranger (Bobby Owen # 11) by ER Punshon
March/April
The Dead in Their Vaulted Arches by Alan Bradley
Behold, here's Poison by Georgette Heyer
The Pilgrim of Hate by Ellis Peters
The Crime of Inspector Maigret (Maigret #4) by Georges Simenon
April/May
The Private Wound by Nicholas Blake
Murder on the Lusitania (Ocean Liner Mysteries #1) by Edward Marston (previously published as by Conrad Allen, one of the author's pen names)
Suspects - Nine (Bobby Owen # 12) by ER Punshon
Henrietta Who? (Sloan and Crosby #2) by Catherine Aird
May/June
The Silver Pigs by Lindsey Davis (Falco #1)
The Yellow Dog by Georges Simenon (Maigret #5)
The Moving Toyshop by Edmund Crispin (Gervase Fen #3)
The Sirens Sang of Murder by Sarah Caudwell (Hilar Tamar #3)
Feb/March

The Moving Toyshop by Edmund Crispin (Gervase Fen #3)
The Sirens Sang of Murder by Sarah Caudwell (Hilar Tamar #3)
No problem. Nicholas Blake will finish April/May and Christianna Brand is finished, as her other books are too hard to get hold of. So we will have the Ocean Liner Mysteries (there are only a handful) and two new series, Sloan and Crosby and possibly Falco, depending on interest in continuing them. Let's see.
Likewise, the last Sarah Caudwell book is not on kindle, so not sure whether anyone wants to continue after book 3, so we will have to play it by ear...
At this point I am in for the Maigret Buddy Reads, will start the Late Monsieur Gallet sometime this month, and in June The Silver Pigs.
Thank you Susan for clarifying that and sorting everything out for us. I’m sure we all appreciate the time and effort you and the other Mods put in.
Thank you, Susan, for your lovely, organized lists (so helpful for staying on track!), and other mods, for the discussion and planning and information you provide about this genre we all enjoy!
We certainly do. Thanks Susan, Judy and Sandy for all that you do. I enjoy this group even if I don't get a chance to join in on all the reads I want to.
Donna Leon was the big kindle deal of the day today and, on the kindle deals thread, we were chatting about trying the first as a buddy read. Anyone interested?
Death at La Fenice
The twisted maze of Venice's canals has always been shrouded in mystery. Even the celebrated opera house, La Fenice, has seen its share of death ... but none so horrific and violent as that of world-famous conductor, Maestro Helmut Wellauer, who was poisoned during a performance of La Traviata. Even Commissario of Police, Guido Brunetti, used to the labyrinthine corruptions of the city, is shocked at the number of enemies Wellauer has made on his way to the top - but just how many have motive enough for murder? The beauty of Venice is crumbling. But evil is one thing that will never erode with age.
99p today if anyone is interested. Book 2 is also in the kindle deal, but it is worth mentioning that not all of the series is available on kindle and book 3 isn't.

The first book has been on my TBR for over nine years and I own it so this would be the push I need. Book three is on kindle for$10 in the US. Various of the series pop up as deals now and again and I think they are readily available in my library systems. The author is approaching eighty and still turning out a book a year. I'm impressed.

The Maigret you have in May/June should be A Battle of Nerves - At the Gai-Moulin aka A Man's Head which is number 4 Very confusing I knowThe Yellow dog will be July/August
Maybe we should agree on which Maigret order of books we are to follow. I have been following this suggested order: www.bookseriesinorder.com/inspector-m... which is consistent with the order the group has been following. The suggestion as listed is therefore also the one I have lined up, but under a different title - The Hanged Man of Saint-Pholien
Wayne wrote: "Maybe we should agree on which Maigret order of books we are to follow. I have been following this suggested order: www.bookseriesinorder.com/inspector-m... which is consistent with the order t..."StopYoureKillingMe.com lists Hanged Man as 4th.
I was using https://www.fantasticfiction.com/s/ge... which I think Susan usesAs you see that is the Hanged Man as 4th We will be reading that in March /April The one after that is the A Man's head the 5th for May/June . July /August will be The Yellow dog 6th
Which will be the same as the list you use.
I have been using Good Reads order which I think is taken from the recent Penguin translations. I also have The Hanged Man of Saint-Pholien as the next read too. I think part of the issue is Simenon was so prolific that he had multiple publications in the same year.
I have been using Fantastic Fiction. If you can agree the order you want, I will happily follow it. Please let me know if you need me to change any of the titles.
Susan wrote: "I have been using Fantastic Fiction. If you can agree the order you want, I will happily follow it. Please let me know if you need me to change any of the titles."I think we agreed we were happy to follow Fantastic Fiction, it’s just that you seem to have missed out A Man’s Head (No 5 on FF). So as Jill says, A Man’s Head should come in May/June, then The Yellow Dog (No 6 on FF) July/August.
