and thanks for the list, Susan!

You're welcome and, Jackie, I am a big Anthony Horowitz fan. He has two excellent crime series - the Magpie Murders series and the Detective Daniel Hawthorne series, first book is The Word is Murder. Both are brilliant and that's without all his popular Alex Rider books for kids and the Sherlock Holmes books. I've never been much of a Holmes fan, but I might give that a try at some point.

Carolien (carolien_s) | 597 comments Are we going to continue with Cadfael and Georgette Heyer during the course of next year?

I now need to catch up the missing two in my Bobby Owens list before December. Looking forward to these.

I have listed another Heyer, Carolien. Cadfael is a series I have personally dropped (just too many books to read!) but I think that Judy is happy to continue those. Quite a few good new series/authors too and I am really happy we are doing Heyer, as I think they are excellent.

Yes, I'm still enjoying Cadfael - we have the next one coming up in December/January, The Leper of St. Giles so let's add another in March/April, The Virgin in the Ice, if that's OK with everyone.

Many thanks, Susan, for adding the latest buddy reads to the list - looking forward to more Georgette Heyer and Nicholas Blake.

message 558: by Louise Tothill (new)

Louise Tothill | 16 comments Yes Bobby Owens. The first one Information Received was really good. Heyer is also one of a favourite. Adthis ix all new to me is a reading buddy needed or can the books be read and a comment posted when finished without one? Thanks

message 559: by Louise Tothill (new)

Louise Tothill | 16 comments Thanks very much for the welcome. Online is a challenge for me but progress is being made every day. And I love reading the detectives some more than others though.

I'm glad we're continuing Cadfael (and Brand and Campion and Bobby Owen). And expect to enjoy rereading Heyer.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) | 1036 comments The Heyer mysteries are full of “bright young things.” If you enjoy that sort of story (think Dorothy Sayers’ or Margery Allingham’s early novels) you would probably like them. They are very different from her Regency novels.

Jill, I loved the Flavia books we've read, so yes, we need to continue those too. The fourth one is a Christmas one, so shame we couldn't fit the third and fourth in before the end of the year.... No, definitely, I will see where we can fit one in next.

I think I'm going a bit nuts making this list. Jill, I already listed a Flavia book:

A Red Herring Without Mustard - Alan Bradley

So I put an Allingham twice and neither of noticed we had another Flavia novel :) Anyway, looking forward to it. In a strangely uncertain world, good to have something to look forward to.

I was grateful for my garden during lockdown, earlier in the year. I think we all appreciate these things more now, Carolien. Enjoy the sunshine :)

Louise Tothill | 16 comments On finishing Footsteps in the Dark, it felt like a struggle. Other Heyer’s read have been fun and easy to read. This really wasn’t, in fact after a while, there was a real temptation to give up. However, having reached the end the mystery was good if long winded.

One of our members, Lady Clementina, has pointed out that Edmund Crispin would have been 100 this October. I wondered if, in honour of his memory, anyone would be keen to add him as a buddy read series? I noticed the other day, his books have nice, new covers and it would be nice to celebrate his centenary. Any thoughts?

message 588: by Judy (new)

Judy (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejudyg) | 11192 comments Mod
Great idea, I'd be happy to read more by him, Lady C and Susan. We have one of his books nominated in this month's poll, The Long Divorce, so we could be reading that one in May if it wins.

message 593: by Carolien (new)

Carolien (carolien_s) | 597 comments Nice idea for Crispin, I have never read him, so will definitely consider it. I'm enjoying our Bobby Owen and Cadfael reads very much.

Susan, we have a Heyer this month, I'm assuming there are some more later in the year?

Have we ever considered Josephine Tey for buddy reads? I've read some of her books, but not all of them and would probably be up for a proper read if there is ever any interest.

message 594: by Susan (new)

Susan | 13276 comments Mod
Yes, we will be reading the Heyer mysteries in order. I normally add a new one once we are reading them, so I don't lost track or miss a series read. So, once we open the next Heyer mystery, I will add a new one, which will be: The Unfinished Clue The Unfinished Clue by Georgette Heyer

Personally, I have mixed feelings about Tey, but if there is enough interest, they could become a future series. Of course, a group member could always set up their own buddy read of any book and we are happy for anyone to do that.

Oooh, he’s been in my TBR pile for ages, never seem to get around to him, always something shiny to read...I’m in! I see Abigail nominated one of his titles for our current poll, I was torn, I want to read them all! But if we do this, as a homage, I will finally get to him.
