Ms. Nikki (miznikki) | 13944 comments The #1 winner for this month is Necroscope.

Please be polite and use spoiler tags when necessary.

Have a great read!

Quentin Wallace (quentinwallace) | 175 comments Awesome! I've had this setting on my shelf for like ten years. I'm glad to finally have an excuse to read it!

I loved the Necroscope universe. I hope you enjoy it.

We start with volume one in the series?

message 6: by JoyToy (new) - added it

JoyToy | 74 comments Will surely start with this one as soon as I finish The Demonologist ^^
Goodreads recs has been poking me to read this one for a while now...

message 7: by John (new) - added it

John (johnfredmurray) | 7 comments Just ordered it from Abe books. Can't wait to finally give it a read. I've always been drawn to the cover art in the nineties.

message 8: by sonya (new) - added it

sonya marie madden | 926 comments I have to get it from my library

Maxine Marsh | 737 comments Loved it and reading it for a second time. I've collected all the paperbacks in the series and I'm plotting to read the whole thing through!!!

John (johnfredmurray) | 7 comments Only the third book in the series was at my library. Amazon prices on this older book were a bit high IMO.

Jeremy Hurd-McKenney (jtcontinental) I found it on Amazon for $8, which seems reasonable for a trade paperback.

Latasha (latasha513) | 11974 comments Mod
I'll be skipping this one. I read it last year and to be honest, I didn't like it very much. But you all have fun!

The paperback starts at $0.01 AND $3.99 shipping for a total of $4 in case anyone still needs it>

Thanks Ms. Nikki. I found a copy off of ABE books. I was looking for the paperback version other than the mass market. I guess I'm weird that way.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

Read this 20 years ago when it first came out in paperback. Am looking forward to reading it again.

Quentin Wallace (quentinwallace) | 175 comments So Im almost a quarter done, and I like it so far. (view spoiler)

Jeremy Hurd-McKenney (jtcontinental) About 100 pages in, and I'm not quite sure what to think yet...it's certainly entertaining, but very strange. I'm finding the clinical and technical language used to describe some pretty perverse scenes to be odd and amusing.

Lyn Mckenzie | 33 comments i might see if u can read this, when does it have to be read by?

Jeremy Hurd-McKenney (jtcontinental) Halfway through, and it just keeps getting weirder. I have no idea where this is going.

Ken B | 6810 comments Started this morning

Joanne Moyer (catwoman56) | 81 comments I read this series years ago and loved it -- hope everyone enjoys it

message 22: by Myst (new) - rated it 5 stars

Myst | 408 comments I (finally) finished all the Necroscope books and short stories last year. It's a fairly unique take on the vampire myth...especially once you get into the origin story.

And having monstrous vampires is a nice relief from all the romantic ones saturating the market currently.

Ready to start on this book. I'm very curious about it based on the reviews I've read.

Terry | 5364 comments I'm up through ch5 and liking it so far. Haven't quite figured out where the story is headed yet, but see lots of potential.

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments I want the cover art on a t-shirt.

Terry | 5364 comments Lol, I'd take a shirt like that, too.

Struggling a bit with this one. I don't care much for the writing style. Much too long-winded for my taste but I'll try a few more chapters.

What part have you made it up to? Some of the political stuff bored me but it has interesting parts as well

JoyToy | 74 comments Finally picking this one up. Ended up reading Dead Leaves first since its so short. So far so good. Although I've never been a fan of drawn-out descriptions... I even fell asleep while he was going on and on about a house/building zzzz

I gave up on it for that reason. After 3 or 4 pages in a row of location, building, and room descriptions and no story or action or dialog I just couldn't stay interested.

eek!! guess I better start skimming through the babble then... thanks for the warning!

message 32: by Ctgt (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ctgt | 765 comments Liked some of the early bits but this middle section is really dragging.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 956 comments It's a good book but some skimming required. At least that's my professional opinion :)

Yep, started skimming.

Perry Lake | 335 comments I'm halfway through it. The opening prolog was mind-numbingly boring but it picks up by Ch. 2 when Harry is introduced.

Maxine Marsh | 737 comments I'm really enjoying this one again. I'd forgotten how gruesome that necromancy scene in Moscow was, it totally turned my stomach!

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments That was one of the more macabre first chapters I ever read in anything.

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments Maxine, did you read any others in the series? I'm really digging this one so far. It's a unique blending of genres.

Maxine Marsh | 737 comments No, I've been accumulating them all in paperback (there's like almost 20 books in the series, and spinoffs too, I think), and now I'm determined to read the whole series through. Lumley creates a really cool paranormal world in this first one and I love the hell out of Harry. I bought a bookshelf just for these that I've collected from ebay.

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments I think the author does a helluva job world-building a modern day fantasy. I can see how this would easily spawn sequels.

Jeremy Hurd-McKenney (jtcontinental) 100 pages to go, and I'll be done. I'm not hating it, but it definitely has a huge drag in the middle. I'm really liking the gory parts a lot, but the narrative is very dated, which makes it seem comical at times when it's not supposed to be.

Maxine Marsh | 737 comments 11811 (Eleven) wrote: "I think the author does a helluva job world-building a modern day fantasy. I can see how this would easily spawn sequels."

Yes! I can't wait to see what the next book is about. I can see Lumley getting cosmic with this one, or playing with time.

Tom | 340 comments STarted this last night. I have had it for awhile on my shelf and thought what better chance to read it. 100 pages in and so far my only complaint is long chapters. Hate stopping in the middle. I am interested to see where this is going, I love the idea of (view spoiler). That was probrably not a spoiler but...

Nancy (erskigal) | 38 comments Did this book win any rewards for run on sentences, by any chance?

message 45: by Jeremy (last edited Oct 13, 2015 08:45PM) (new) - rated it 2 stars

Jeremy Hurd-McKenney (jtcontinental) I finished tonight, and was a bit disappointed with the ending. I also wanted it to be more vampire-y, and less terrible 80's spy novel.

message 46: by JoyToy (new) - added it

JoyToy | 74 comments Finally finished this last night. Like Jeremy said, I didn't hate it but didn't like it either. Wouldn't have even finished it w/o skimming. Quite a drag! Def won't be reading the rest of the series. Harry's skills were interesting though but that was it.
@Nancy Book really needs an award for run-ons! ;3

Nancy (erskigal) | 38 comments Haha! My thoughts exactly

I wasn't crazy about the ending either because

He is big with cosmic and time stuff. I've read the first two and heard he goes pretty out there later

Quentin Wallace (quentinwallace) | 175 comments I finished today. I tend to agree with most in the thread. It was a little too long and grew tedious at times. Also, I didn't care for how "far out" it got. (view spoiler)

I have the next few books in the series because I bought them all at a used bookstore for a good price years go. I'll probably keep reading them for now, but I don't know about trying to read this series. It was good, but I don't know if it was THAT good.
