Just ordered it from Abe books. Can't wait to finally give it a read. I've always been drawn to the cover art in the nineties.

Loved it and reading it for a second time. I've collected all the paperbacks in the series and I'm plotting to read the whole thing through!!!
Only the third book in the series was at my library. Amazon prices on this older book were a bit high IMO.
I found it on Amazon for $8, which seems reasonable for a trade paperback.
I'll be skipping this one. I read it last year and to be honest, I didn't like it very much. But you all have fun!

I was looking for the paperback version other than the mass market. I guess I'm weird that way.
Read this 20 years ago when it first came out in paperback. Am looking forward to reading it again.
About 100 pages in, and I'm not quite sure what to think yet...it's certainly entertaining, but very strange. I'm finding the clinical and technical language used to describe some pretty perverse scenes to be odd and amusing.

Halfway through, and it just keeps getting weirder. I have no idea where this is going.

I read this series years ago and loved it -- hope everyone enjoys it
I (finally) finished all the Necroscope books and short stories last year. It's a fairly unique take on the vampire myth...especially once you get into the origin story.And having monstrous vampires is a nice relief from all the romantic ones saturating the market currently.

I'm up through ch5 and liking it so far. Haven't quite figured out where the story is headed yet, but see lots of potential.

Finally picking this one up. Ended up reading Dead Leaves first since its so short. So far so good. Although I've never been a fan of drawn-out descriptions... I even fell asleep while he was going on and on about a house/building zzzz

I gave up on it for that reason. After 3 or 4 pages in a row of location, building, and room descriptions and no story or action or dialog I just couldn't stay interested.

Liked some of the early bits but this middle section is really dragging.
It's a good book but some skimming required. At least that's my professional opinion :)

I'm halfway through it. The opening prolog was mind-numbingly boring but it picks up by Ch. 2 when Harry is introduced.
I'm really enjoying this one again. I'd forgotten how gruesome that necromancy scene in Moscow was, it totally turned my stomach!
That was one of the more macabre first chapters I ever read in anything.
Maxine, did you read any others in the series? I'm really digging this one so far. It's a unique blending of genres.
No, I've been accumulating them all in paperback (there's like almost 20 books in the series, and spinoffs too, I think), and now I'm determined to read the whole series through. Lumley creates a really cool paranormal world in this first one and I love the hell out of Harry. I bought a bookshelf just for these that I've collected from ebay.
I think the author does a helluva job world-building a modern day fantasy. I can see how this would easily spawn sequels.
100 pages to go, and I'll be done. I'm not hating it, but it definitely has a huge drag in the middle. I'm really liking the gory parts a lot, but the narrative is very dated, which makes it seem comical at times when it's not supposed to be.

STarted this last night. I have had it for awhile on my shelf and thought what better chance to read it. 100 pages in and so far my only complaint is long chapters. Hate stopping in the middle. I am interested to see where this is going, I love the idea of (view spoiler). That was probrably not a spoiler but...
Did this book win any rewards for run on sentences, by any chance?
I finished tonight, and was a bit disappointed with the ending. I also wanted it to be more vampire-y, and less terrible 80's spy novel.
Finally finished this last night. Like Jeremy said, I didn't hate it but didn't like it either. Wouldn't have even finished it w/o skimming. Quite a drag! Def won't be reading the rest of the series. Harry's skills were interesting though but that was it. @Nancy Book really needs an award for run-ons! ;3

He is big with cosmic and time stuff. I've read the first two and heard he goes pretty out there later
I finished today. I tend to agree with most in the thread. It was a little too long and grew tedious at times. Also, I didn't care for how "far out" it got. (view spoiler)I have the next few books in the series because I bought them all at a used bookstore for a good price years go. I'll probably keep reading them for now, but I don't know about trying to read this series. It was good, but I don't know if it was THAT good.
