Could the other one you're thinking of been a Ellen Hopkins book? I recall reading one by her along these lines as well.

Oh and I haven't read it yet, but I think The Dead House is also in that vein, although I'm not sure the two ever meet. There is one more that is more like your examples, I just can't think of it!

I'm also trying to think what these kind of books would be called, or terms that help in searching for them. Both "dissociative" and the older (unfortunate) "split personality" seem to bring reasonable results in Novelist, because those are terms used in the book reviews.
