He stepped out from behind a tree. "You won't hurt me," he said quietly. He wasn't even using his power, just stating a fact.
Elly closed her eyes and didn't speak, turning her head away to hide the tears leaking from the corners of her eyes.
Blaze kept grinning.Teeghan cracked a smile, "Sounds fun."
"No. No I won't Ellis." Because, in some sick way, I love you.

Shadow was seething but didn't follow him, blinded by tears. She stumbled forward until she once again felt the warmth of the ward, promptly collapsing once she did.
Sean had woken to the sound of voices. He stood, quickly waking. He found Salem and knelt by her. "Are you alright? I heard Ellis. I'm sorry, I wasn't awake..."
Elly suddenly thought of something. "Rife," she whispered, "Could you... do something for me? Could you wait in the hall and listen at the door of your room? The... a person will come in there when he sees that I'm alone. If you listen... you'll know what I want - but can't - tell you. Please, can you do that?"
Salem pulled her chin to her chest. "Don't be sorry." she seethed. "It is NOT. Your. Fault."
Sean rubbed her back gently. "I know. I wish I could help, somehow..."
"You can't." she replied numbly. "You can't stop him without hurting me."
Wincing, he nodded. "I... I know. I almost wish I'd never met you... so it wouldn't be this way. Have I improved your life at all, or made it harder for you? It seems like he wouldn't be this way if it weren't for me."
