Julesy | 1411 comments Congratulations, Naomi, Valerie, and Brenda! As always, awesome job, Carla!

I have one more letter before I complete the challenge (see message #8). I don't plan on adding any more words since I am fully into my holiday reading now.

message 53: by Carla (new)

Carla (carla1957) Newest update:

I have completed AUTUMN, SCARECROW, THANKSGIVING, APPLES., SKELETON and ACORNS. Post #15

I am still working on GRAVEYARD, BLACKCAT, and FOOTBALL. I have a few letters in each word to finish up with a total of 8 books. I still have 17 days to go so we will see if I get anymore complete. I know I gave myself a lofty goal, but that was part of the fun.

Good work, Leslie, Linda and Marisa!

It was my intention to spell out CORN MAZE this season, and I had books selected for all letters, but after one book ate up an entire month, that word is unlikely to be finished. Looking at what books I have read so far the past three months, I'm thinking of switching to ACORNS. Maybe. I think I need to glance over the list again to be sure. :-\

message 65: by Julesy (new)

Julesy | 1411 comments Congratulations, Linda!
Awesome job, Marisa!

message 66: by Julesy (new)

Julesy | 1411 comments I finished the Autumn Challenge with the words GHOST and APPLES. I won't have time for another word and I couldn't find another word for the books that I read. Hard to find books with vowels! Message #8 has been updated.

Carla (carla1957) Good job Julesy! You are right, the vowels are tough.

message 69: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 440 comments Good job. I have to admit when I go to bookstores now, I look at books with titles that start with vowels!!!

message 70: by Carla (new)

Carla (carla1957) I finished! I read 72 books of varying lengths and genres. I completed:

AUTUMN, SCARECROW, THANKSGIVING, APPLES, GRAVEYARD, SKELETON, BLACKCAT, FOOTBALL AND ACORNS for a total of 9 words. I really enjoyed searching for titles and authors to fill in the letters, but think I will scale back just a little for the Winter challenge.

As anticipated after Villette took up most of my November, I did not finish the Autumn Challenge, even after switching to a slightly shorter word. I had books picked out, just wasn't able to get to them. Ah, well... Better luck next season, right?

Here's what I was able to get to:

A = All I Want for Christmas is You by Lisa Mondello
C = Cloaked in Malice by Annette Blair
O =
R =
N = A Nun in the Closet by Dorothy Gilman
S = Scandal in Skibbereen by Sheila Connolly

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments Merry Christmas everyone! I've just finished my ninth book in the challenge; I know I didn't meet the deadline due to a few obligations, but at least I managed to read eight out of nine books in time! Oh well, it's been a fairly good try, I guess... Anyway, congratulations to all of you who have finished. Better luck next time!

Thanks, Carla. Villette is another book by Charlotte Bronte, but although many lit critics believe it better than Jane Eyre, I was not familiar with it myself. It is divided into three parts, and the first was the most difficult to plow through. After that the action picked up quite a bit and it read much faster.
