Option 1 - RICE – read a book with a food item on the cover.
The Spia Family Presses on by Mary Leo

Food - olives
THESPIAFAMILYPRESSESON
Option 2 - FOAM ROLLER – give a second chance to an author you may not have liked in the past.
Whirlpool by Elizabeth Lowell
I read a book by Elizabeth Lowell called Desert Rain, gave it 1 star and placed it on my "absolute garbage" shelf. One of the worst "romances" I have ever read, with a romantic male lead no better than a rapist and a romantic female lead that was dumber than a box of hair. This one was better, probably because it was romantic suspense and I could focus on the mystery and ignore the idiot couple. I think I'm done with Elizabeth Lowell though.

50.1 - Daphne's Task: Gone to the dogs - What's in a name?
For this task, all books must be nonfiction. Read 3 books, from 3 different options.
2. Thutmose IV - He is my splendidly neurotic English Shepherd mutt. For this option, read a book on the listopias Popular Archaeology and Paleoanthropology or Best Popular Anthropology Books. REQUIRED: In your post, state which list you chose and the page the book is found on.
Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies, Jared Diamond
On both lists on page one: Rank #1 on Best Popular Anthropology Books; Rank #5 on Popular Archaeology and Paleoanthropology
4. Theseus - He is my goofy hound mix. For this option, read a non-fiction history book about Rome or Greece. History (standalone or embedded) must appear as a main page genre, and the GR description must indicate that the book is about Rome or Greece.
Magic in the Roman World, Naomi Janowitz
Approved by Daphne in help thread message #47
5. Xerxes - My ginger chow/shar pei with a major, major attitude. For this option, read a nonfiction book that contains the letter X in the title or subtitle AND that contains all the letters of EITHER the word DOG, the word WOLF or the word CANID in the title and/or subtitle.

Has X in the word eXtraordinary, and using the title letters you can make up both the words DOG (in unDerGrOund) and CANID (ANID in extraorDINAry, C in faCts.)

Read a book that combines at least THREE of the following features.
I read A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson
REQUIRED: (1) State which three features your book contains
(1) A Walk in the Woods satisfies options (A) Adventure, (C) Humor, and (E) History. The genres were noted in message 29 in the genre verification thread. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
REQUIRED:(2) State how the book satisfies your storyline option(s).
(2) This book was about the adventures of the author as he set out on the Appalachian Trail with his buddy. A good deal of the author’s humor consisted of making fun of his buddy and snide comments about other hikers. There was a lot of history about the trail itself, the national forest system, different little towns along the way, etc. The history side was really bumped up after the author took a “break” about third of the way through the book. He never really got back into full on hiking the trail.

This is a two book task: Choose two books, one for Book 1, and one that works for Book 2.
Book 1. Numerically, the Fall months, SRC style, are 9, 10, and 11.
Read a book whose author's* surname has 9, 10, or 11 letters. The book must be written by a single author. Please note that a surname, for SRC purposes, is the last word in the author's name preceded by a space.
Finger Lickin' Fifteen by Janet Evanovich
"Evanovich" has 9 letters
I listened to the audio version, but linked to the MMPB version.
Book 2. Read a book whose title (Not a subtitle or series title) contains a word of 9, 10, or 11 letters. The word may be plural or possessive.
Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor by Lisa Kleypas
"Christmas" has 9 letters
