Review: The continuing misadventures of Arthur Dent, et al. This book is filled with a lot of humor and a little science fiction. There's space travel and time travel, sometimes even at the same time, and the restaurant at the end of the universe is just one stop on this ridiculous ride.

Not my usual genre to read, but I have enjoyed these books so far. A group of aliens have come to Earth to be protected from their enemies when their home is destroyed. Now they are being hunted for their powers by both their enemies and the government who originally tried to protect them. These are teen books with the obligatory human teen crushing on alien and being drawn into their world. There is a new twist in this book that made it more interesting than the first one.

Parker, Robert B. Sudden Mischief bk 25
Susan Silverman's ex doesn't call himself "Silverman" anymore -- he's changed his name to "Sterling." And that's not the only thing that's phony about him. A do-gooding charity fundraiser, he's been accused of sexual harassment by no less than four different women. And not long after Spenser starts nvestigating, Sterling is wanted for a bigger charge: murder.

I rolled a three so we are on space 28. We can read 2, 8, 28 in a series or the alternate is a book published in 2004.

review: this by far is my favorite book in the series. Stephanie is at it again, but this time she is on a case that deals with child custody. along the way she will find out that a "mob" type activity is going on, and she is now part of the game.
on another note, ranger and Stephanie finally get that sexual tension taken care of. now she has to figure out which man she wants in her life. Stephanie found herself another side kick when a lawyer comes into play. Stephanie will set him up with her sister just to get him off her back.
not to mention along the way there is a lot of cars that catch of fire due to a rabbit problem. I honestly could not stop laughing when i read this book. I now don't know if i want to read the 9th book or the Halloween special :)

Review: The second half of Janie's senior year looks like it's going to be just as exciting as, if not more than, the first half. A full-fledged teenage undercover cop, who also has the ability to enter people's dreams, Janie is put on the case to uncover a sexual predator in the halls of her high school. With the help of her secret boyfriend, Cabe, and the police captain she reports to, Janie uses her psychic abilities as well as her womanly wiles, acting as bait. The story is a bit ludicrous, and not because of the paranormal angle. It's the "realistic" elements I take issue with. I like the idea of dream catching and want to explore that more. The mystery side of things was sub-par.

Stewart, Mariah Cry Mercy bk 2
I just love this series. A very rich man has set up his own detective agency, hiring one by one the best he can find. They work out of his mansion, and money is no object.
Former FBI agent Sam Delvecchio brings the keen skills of a profiler to his new position as a Mercy Street Foundation operative—and not a moment too soon. His first assignment, the cold-case murder of a local soup kitchen volunteer, has all the telltale signs of a serial killer's work. That grim suspicion is confirmed when FBI agent Fiona Summers shares the details of two other killings with eerie similarities to Sam's case: The bodies in all three cases have been carefully posed. And when a fourth victim is discovered, the two investigators realize they're pursuing the same twisted quarry.
Local parish priest Kevin Burch, Mercy Street founder Robert Magellan's cousin, recognizes the posings for what they are: The killer is staging the church's seven Acts of Mercy ("Feed the hungry, clothe the naked . . .") with the bodies of his victims. But as Sam and Fiona race to prevent the final three murders, taunting messages from their target lead to the most chilling realization of all.

The main character is an actress who retreats to her childhood summer home with her great-aunt to protect her son when scandal breaks out about her ex-husband. There she falls in love again with her childhood sweetheart and makes some big decisions about her life. This was a simple straight-forward romance.

I redeemed my roll from last week!
I rolled a 6! We are now on Space 34. You can read the 3rd, 4th, or 34th book in a series or the alternate is a book published in 2013.

Review: After the destruction of Paris, Nicholas Flamel has fled with the twins, Sophie and Josh, to London in search of the oldest immortal human, Gilgamesh. He's needed to teach the twins water magic, but his advanced age has taken its toll on his psyche. Meanwhile in San Francisco, Perenelle, with help from the spider elder, Areop-Enap, has escaped from the prison and defeated the Morrigan, but she's still trapped on Alcatraz Island. John Dee and Machiavelli are working hard to kill the immortal pair and capture the twins, but with friends like Shakespeare, the fight is not over yet. A fun and epic adventure. I've really enjoyed this series so far.

Another good adventure in Chicago with Harry running around town trying to get rid of the bad guys. There are ghosts trying to kill people and Harry tries to figure out why they seem to be after him and some of his friends. Once he discovers there has to be someone directing the ghosts, the danger increases dramatically. Although not a genre I usually read, I am continuing the series since these books have been enjoyable so far.

Samantha Bennett was planning to camp out in and old cider mill when the rain storm produced lightening and struck it. She was recued by a bunch of georgeous fireman. Justin Sloan, her rescuer, wants to know why she was in his cider mill. Samantha is a treasure hunter who has returned to Knights Bridge to solve a 300-year-old mystery and salvage her good name. He finds her room at the local inn. And can't get her out of his mind.

Review: This is the final installment of the Dream Catcher series by Lisa McMann. I actually think I ended up liking this one more than the second, although it seems I'm in the minority when reading other reviews. The story deviates from the first two in that there is no police mystery solve, but I didn't really like that element in the second book, so I was glad to see that gone. Instead we focus on Janie and her continued struggle with being a dream catcher.

I enjoy this series. This book fills out more of Eve's backstory and through some troubles in the present show what she is made of. Homeless people in several cities are showing up murdered with organs missing. The incisions can only have been done by well trained medical personnel. Of course, Eve's husband Rourke also ends up mixed up in the case as well. I like this book because it shows a lot of the personalities and relationships between characters.

Review: I read The Da Vinci Code about 10 years ago when it was all over the place, and I always meant to read this book, the first in the series, but I never got around to it. So now a decade later, I finally have. I have to say that this book seemed very similar to The Da Vinci Code in the way it was structured and the kinds of characters that surround Robert Langdon. They both start with a symbolic murder, there's a woman (Sophie/Vittoria) to play opposite, a secret society made up of important historical figures, etc. It's an easy read, and the adventure is sometimes fun, but at the end of the day it reads like a pompous ass making up a load of crap.

Stand Alone

Not really my cup of tea, but I can see where fans would really like it. At least it was a short, fast, easy read. To me, it just seemed like the narrator kept rambling on with no real point to his story. It was all him remembering something that happened in his childhood and maybe it was supposed to be scary, but it just seemed weird to me. There were some pretty good descriptions at some points of the story, however.
