Chapter 1 (view spoiler)[So much packed into one chapter. We see how controlling his father is, even slightly his meanness. How sweet Maxon's mother is. That the only girl he had any chance to know on his own was another princess and how that wouldn't have been an approved match. Plus how nervous Maxon was about the coming Selection process. I'm really enjoying how this is told from Maxon's perspective. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ Loved seeing Amberly as a part of the Selection when in The Selection, The Elite and The One she is only described as the beautiful and loving queen and nothing more. I was sursprised that Clarkson is actually able to love with passion and fell in love almost immediately. Surprised to know about Clarkson's parents and how he actually felt depressed bc of them.

Maxon is really one of my favourite characters in this series. I loved being able to go inside his mind for a bit and see through his eyes what America meant to him.

(view spoiler)[ Aspen, on the other hand was something different. I shipped America with him but only until she won a place in the Selection. I knew from the very beginning they weren't made for each other but I love how besides everything Aspen remained her best friend and loved her till the end.

The Favorite
(view spoiler)[ Marlee was also a favourite of mine. I was delighted to see how the story went for her and Carter. This part of the book showed me one more time that love can be unlimited and that Maxon's heart is filled with goodness.

I just finished Happily Ever After and I loved all of the stories inside of it. I also realized how much I need to reread the series since I did not remember some of the events that happened that also appeared in Happily Ever After.

(view spoiler)[The one thing that confused me about this story is that I actually liked the king because he seemed to be portrayed differently. I really wonder how he became abusive when he just didn't seem like the type in the story. Yes he was a bit controlling but just because he wanted a handle on his life does not mean he had to become abusive later on. (hide spoiler)]

The Favorite
(view spoiler)[This one almost made me cry and although Marlee forgave Maxon I still couldn't help but hate him for having them go through that sort of pain. I know it wasn't his doing, but I felt so bad for them and it was just ugh. I can't even think of the right words I was so mad when that happened. The rest of the story was adorable and I thought their love was one of the most interesting and just awe worthy things ever. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I'm also one of the people that hated her, but I really liked seeing her in a new light. To know what was going on in her head and what she really thought about the Selection was interesting and although nothing she thought or did was justified in the short stories I still thought it was interesting. After the One

The Favourite - I am with you here that their love was one of the most beautiful but I have a completely opposite opinion on Marlee forgiving Maxon. I think Maxon is the one to be appreciated having forgiven Marlee and Carter and helping them...

The Favorite: I know that it wasn't Maxon's fault, but in reality he didn't have feelings for Marlee any ways so it really wasn't wrong of her to find love elsewhere when he was doing the same thing. Te whole Selection process really irritated me because it made the girls seem like objects. The more I think about it though I realize that Maxon really was trying to be as kind as he could so I think I can find it in me to forgive him. :) (hide spoiler)]

I'm glad that Jack and Burke are gone and that Fox, Henri, and Kile stayed, because they didn't cause the fight. I'm honestly surprised that it took Jack's attack to have guards/safeties put in place when Eadlyn is alone with one of the men. I'd have thought that would've been an automatic. (hide spoiler)]

It does make me wonder how Clarkson was so sweet and in love in this book and ended up being so mean in the trilogy. It makes me wonder if Clarkson ended up exactly like his father, yelling at Amberly and possibly abusing her. She seemed happy in the trilogy but I don't know. Maxon was definitely sweeter than Clarkson, though. (hide spoiler)]

He was okay up to the Selection but from the palace onwards I found him annoying and obsessive over America. I still can't believe that he would risk her life like that knowing that her friend got caned for the same thing. I did however like the scenes with Aspen and the maids and also the rebel attack. I teared up in quite a few places, and her love with Carter made me really happy.
