The last book I read was...
Adding to the apparent theme I seem to be reading (fascinating & disturbing), I have just finished War Doctor: Surgery on the Front Line
The Perks of Being a Wallflower Recommended by a friend. I'd heard of it, never really read it. That was impressive.
Inspector Imanishi Investigates by Seichō Matsumotoand
The Poisoner's Handbook: Murder and the Birth of Forensic Medicine in Jazz Age New York by Deborah Blum
Finished Age of Empyre; I found the whole series enjoyable even if I haven't loved it as much as the Riyria ones. I should reread Theft of Swords now...
Second City Sinners: True Crime from Historic Chicago's Deadly Streets by Jon Seidel. It was ... ok. Nothing special.
I'm sensing a theme in your recent reads Mike :)
I've just finished Flying Witch Vol. 8 - delightful as ever, and it's a whole year until I can get my hands on volume 9!

Ha! I tend to read 2-3 books in row that are roughly in the same genre and then switch to a different genre. For example, I will go through 2-3 mysteries/crime thrillers, then 2-3 sci-fi books, etc.
There have been no unexplained or suspicious deaths in my area, and I have not taken out any recent life insurance policies. I swear!
The book I've just finished is Rejected Princesses: Tales of History's Boldest Heroines, Hellions, and Heretics by Jason Porath
Dragon Wing by Tracy Hickman Margaret WeisTone seemed inconsistent to me. Couldn't quite get immersed into it.
I'm currently reading Heads You Win and I've been reading it for a long while. Not because it's not interesting, because it is, but because I just lost my general interest in books. I picked it up again a few days ago and I must say I regret having stopped reading. I also started reading Beat, and I'm about to have a hard time finishing it. It's not my style, but I'm not comfortable dnf-ing.
Mary, I've also just whizzed through Witch Hat Atelier Vols 1-5 :)
Haha suuure Mike! But to be fair I either alternate books or clump them too. I've realised I can be a bit of a mood reader, so when it's time to select the next book I wander back and forth between all my book shelves picking up books and putting them back until I decide on the next read

Kirsty wrote: "Just finished The Last Wish - was really good and I’d like to read more!"I agree. Still waiting for my hold on Blood of Elves to come in.
Dragon Pearl by Yoon Ha Lee. I'd avoided it for a while because I heard Yoon's adult sci-fi was really weird and hard for follow for puny brains like mine, but I found this one a fun sci-fi adventure that I, though not the target audience, really enjoyed.
Age of MythMichael J. Sullivan. I thought the book really took off once Persephone (the chieftain 's wife) took over as the main character. Waterlogged by Michael Watson This is a self published fantasy novella (I am not the author) that I thought was pretty good.
Son of a Liche by J. Zachary Pike
Sequel to "Orconomics". A large part of these books is directed towards satire of D&D/WoW as well as, oddly enough, economics, but what makes them work so well is the fact that the underlying plot and characters work on their own outside of any satire. So much fun to read.
Year One by Nora Roberts. It ended up being a dnf for me at 30% which is a bummer. I am liking my current read, though, Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell
Clovenhoof. For those in need of a bit of light entertainment this was one of the funniest books I've read this year :)

Just finished rereading Warprize by Elizabeth Vaughn. Listened via Audible actually. Wasn't as good as I remembered, not bad, the Firelander's culture was especially complex and interesting, but the ending was weak. Also made me come to terms with how much I skim over when I read at my normal speed. My husband teases me that I read favorite books multiple times because each successive read, with all the details I've skipped, it's like a brand new book. He's not that wrong.
Yesterday I finished our BOTM (The city we became) and today I started reading Jurassic Park. I'm already liking the latter better than the former; perhaps because it's a classic, perhaps because at 11% more has already happened in JP than in TCWB. Curious what the rest will bring. I was surprised to see that the beginning was unlike the movie in every way.

Opens with a lock-down. Which obviously, given the length of time it takes to write a book, is a coincidence.
