Ditto on this! I love Moore. A Dirty Job is hilarious if you just one to read one of his.

Kristina | 778 comments Christopher Moore is awesome. I really want to read some more of his books. I loved Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal. I like when Jesus as a boy kills the lizard and brings it back to lif.

BK Blue (paradoxically) I found a bunch of good ones at the thrift store today. I have no idea what to read first though. lol Help me?

Our Lady of the Lost and Found A Novel of Mary, Faith, and Friendship
The Poisonwood Bible
Running with Scissors A Memoir
Sizzle and Burn
The Dogs of Babel
Until I Find You A Novel

I also got a couple for my mom and found a copy of To Kill a Mockingbird. :D

message 54: by BK (new)

BK Blue (paradoxically) lol I read it last night, since I had been wanting to read it for a while. It was pretty interesting. I'm not sure what I should read next, but I know I am saving "Until I Find You" for last. It's 820 pages in small print, so it's going to take longer to read than the other ones.

message 55: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) I'm thinking of Reading Stray after Shadow Kiss. I'm reading Strange Brew now....
I took these off my list from the library for awhile(maybe next time):
Beggars in Spain / Nancy Kress
This immortal / Roger Zelazny

I finished the two Chris Moore books (HILARIOUS) and I still have Dirty Job to read PLUS Practical Demonkeeping. Anyone know which I should read first of those two?

message 56: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Dirty Job has a lot of cross over characters. Practical Demonkeeping introduces a lot of them so I suggest reading it first, but you don't have to in order to enjoy either of them.

message 57: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Bonfire - I loved The Dogs of Babel, but it's a bit dark and sad so you'll have to be in the mood for it, I think.

message 58: by BK (new)

BK Blue (paradoxically) Thanks. It does sound a little sad, so I think I will read "Sizzle and Burn" next.

If you like YA vampire lit. I would try
Vampire Academy-Richelle Mead! :)

Back in high school I really enjoyed Amelia Atwater-Rhodes books, which I think are similar to the "Twilight" series and in my opinion are actually much more well written with more 3 dimensional characters. If you want to go in the same vein as 'Twilight' Demon in My View was probably my favorite book by her so I'd start with that. She has a whole vampire series out now though, as well as a more fantasy shape-shifter type series.

Fun side note: Atwater-Rhodes was only like 16 or so when her first was published and they are really very well done.

I second Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. The vampire series is called Den of Shadows, and is very good. Really...all of her books are great! :)

message 64: by new_user (new)

new_user I've seen whichbook before. It's pretty cool. I'm not a big fan of whatshouldireadnext because isn't that just another list of popular titles, really?

message 65: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 1184 comments Some of the suggestions I've gotten from whatshouldireadnext are somewhat more obscure ... although if you're feeding it a popular title, you're likely to get a popular title in return.

Now I'm faced with that what to read next quandry ... I know what I would like to read, (Jeffrey Deaver's Garden of Beasts) but my plan was to read that while I'm on vacation week after next, so I have to hold off on that one at least ...

Thanks!! I'll keep that in mind now that I'm FINALLY going to be starting them! I need funny right now.

Since I have to wait another day for my JR ward book (library closed)...I need to read something in the meantime...

I am stuck between these books...

1.Revealed-Kate Noble
2.Enchanting Pleasures-Eloisa James
3.Fate-Jennifer Lynn Barnes
4.Confessions of a Little Black Gown-Elizabeth Boyle
5.Darkborn-Alison Sinclair
6.Devil In My Bed-Celeste Bradley
7.What Happens in London-Julia Quinn

Any help would be appreciated! :)
ps. I am leaning towards reading one of the first five books, because they are on loan from the library...

message 68: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 617 comments I'd go with one of the library books since they need to be returned ... might help in your lateness issues ;).

Confessions of a Little Black Gown by Elizabeth Boyle
Sleepless at Midnight by Jacquie D'Alessandro
Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh
Masquerade by Melissa de la Cruz
Full Moon by Rachel Hawthorne

I have the first psy book sitting on my endtable, but I havent started the series yet...
Angels Blood has been intriguing me...

I want to read something, because I've was up all night doing assignment, after assignment, after assignment...LOL Since I need to stay awake until the hubby comes home, books are my best bet! :)
I REALLY can't wait until Lover eternal arrives at my library...(sigh) I'm sure Angels Blood will keep me busy until then. :)

message 74: by new_user (new)

new_user Hopefully, you will like AB. If you don't, you're lucky. You have the Psy-Changeling series sitting on your endtable, LOL. That series is more on the "sweeter" side. Sounds like you checked out all the good books though. ;)

message 75: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) Okay new decisions to make...
All of these books are due back no earlier than 9/28 (except for one that says it's due back next week which isn't cool since I just checked it out yesterday)
Here they are:
Blood and Chocolate
Faefever
Ill Wind
Magic Bites
Rogue
The Strain (this is the one due back 9/16)
Touch the Dark

HELP!!!

message 76: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I loved Blood and Chocolate and it's a quick read. I say go with that one!

message 77: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) Hmmm...that's a Were book correct? I'll have to see if I can handle reading more Were books so soon after 3 days of Briggs. lol

message 78: by new_user (new)

new_user B&C was no good, imo. I say Faefever, since you're already a fan of the series and right in the middle of it. :)

message 79: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 617 comments I concur on Blood & Chocolate being not very good. Truthfully I read it years ago, but at the time I was going through a huge supernatural/vampire phase and even then I only thought it was all right. Looking back all I can tell you is that werewolves were involved but nothing sticks out as being particularly interesting or special.

For practicality purposes I'd go with 'The Strain' since you have to return it. But I don't know anything about it.

message 80: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Yeah, Jo! Another who loved Blood and Chocolate! Guess it's a love it or hate it book.

message 81: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 244 comments I never read Blood and Chocolate but i did see the movie and it was just ok so im thinking the book was not that great either so i would pick The strain cause it's due back soon.

message 82: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 244 comments really good to know then.

message 83: by Elvia (last edited Sep 10, 2009 06:19AM) (new)

Elvia (elvb) Thanks everyone! I started The Strain late last night. First 20 pages or so and I'm already creeped out! lol Maybe I needed something scary...it is scary, right??

message 84: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) THANKS!! I am looking forward to getting creeped out this weekend! lol

message 85: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) Oh yeah and BTW - turns out I already read Faefever!! lol I started it last night and thought it sounded really familiar. So I turned to the last page and thought "A-HA!!" lol

Hmmmm...from your to-read list I would say one of these two...

1. A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray
2. The Pillars of the World by Anne Bishop

Suggestions not on your to-read list... I'm sending some recommendations on here. :)

Depending on what you're in the mood forSomething Borrowed is a fun easy read.

A Child Called "It" One Child's Courage to Survive is a very good read, but can be more difficult to get through because of the subject matter.

Wicked The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West is very good and quite thought provoking, but don't expect the musical or you won't be thrilled.

Also, The Pillars of the World is a decently light and enjoyable fantasy read. And I found it to be interesting.

I'm reading The Time Traveler's Wife and so far I'm underwhelmed and slightly disappointed, but I guess that could change.

Also, I would take Vanishing Acts off your 'to read' list. I thought it was predictable and contrived with horribly flat characters. However, that being said it's the only Piccoult I've ever read so I may just not be a fan of her writing style.

I really enjoyed all of Jodi Picoult's books, but I think my favorite was Keeping Faith. Silence of the Lambs is another good one. And the Host really sucks you in if you can get past the first 50 pages or so.

Looking over your list, perhaps something that will be whimsical ... A Bad Beginning, to start the Series of Unfortunate Events. Lemony Snicket's books are wonderfully funny, but still interesting, even for an adult reader.

message 96: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shadowrose) Okay I've found myself stuck again and in need of some help! I have quite a few books to read on my shelves and not sure which one to read.
Here are the most interesting to me at the moment:
Filthy Shakespeare Shakespeare's Most Outrageous Sexual Puns
Living Dead in Dallas
Death on the Nile
Treasure Island
Lasher
When You Believe

As you can see my choices are varied.

Personally...I would go with Living Dead in Dallas (my hubby said it was good), or When you believe (it sounds interesting to me). :)

message 98: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shadowrose) Living Dead in Dallas is sounding really good, while I was laying about I started Filthy Shakespeare (fairly quick read and a non-commital one at that) and I'm nearly fed up with it now. Thanks Joy I'm think that Dallas is a good route at this point

I'm trying to decide between four different books. I was going to read Lover Enshrined by J.R. Ward, but I decided that I am going to space out the last two books since I have to wait until May for the 8th book. :(
Here are the four books I am debating between...
Full Moon by Rachel Hawthorne=It's an easy read, but enjoyable.

Blood Sins by Kay Hooper=I started this series like a million years ago, and it's really good, but more in depth.

Tempt Me at Twilight by Lisa Kleypas=I love Kleypas, and it's our next Group read, but I am not 100% sure I want to read a romance right now...

The Magician's Apprentice by Trudi Canavan=LOL I used to be a big fan of adult fantasy, but I haven't read anything from the genre for a long time, because I haven't been in the mood. However, I really liked one of Canavan's other series...

Wit'ch Fire by James Clemens=I have already read this series 20+ times, but I still love it. It's like my "saftey blanket" that I revisit every once in a while.

(sigh) Can you see why I am having problems choosing?
