I've noticed that it is pretty rare to find books with shapeshifters in them!
If you know of any, please let us all know.

new_user I have a bunch on my shelves. They're a fave of mine. Try:

The Smoke Thief by Shana Abe (I think you would really like this, Joy)
Scent of Darkness by Christina Dodd
Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh
Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs (req. short first)
Bitten by Kelley Armstrong (alth. the rest are about other creatures, boooo)
The Silver Wolf by Alice Borchardt (too bad there was no continuation :( )
Hotter After Midnight by Cynthia Eden
Touch of the Wolf by Susan Krinard (all of her books are not equal, but this one's good)
The Wolf Hunt by Gillian Bradshaw (if you want a straight fantasy version, based off the original legend; Bradshaw's a good writer)

[book:The Silver Wolf|258657] was actually continued. There are two more books in the series. LOL I only read the first two when I was younger, so I have no clue if the third one is any good.

#2-Night of the Wolf
#3-The Wolf King
Hopefully that will brighten up your day! :)

new_user Oh, cool, I didn't realize there was a third! :) I didn't read the second because it's sort of a prequel and goes into the hero's history, but sounds like the third is a straight up sequel. Thanks, Joy!

Your welcome! Let me know if the third book is any good. :)

Unapologetic_Bookaholic People might underrated this series because it is under the Nocturne label but the author is REALLY good!

Last Wolf Hunting
Last Wolf Watching
Last Wolf Standing

author:Rhyannon Byrd
main shifter: werewolf

message 11: by new_user (new)

new_user I just finished the sequel to The Better to Hold You by Alisa Sheckley. Was really good, but now I have to wait for more! :(

message 12: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) The book I'm reading now, Stray, is about werecats. I'm still in the beginning so they haven't specified what cat yet but they are about to hunt so I'll find out in the next few pages! lol

Ohhhh!!!! I've been wanting to read that! Let me know if it is any good! :)

Elvia (elvb) Joy wrote: Ohhhh!!!! I've been wanting to read that! Let me know if it is any good! :)"

It was VERY GOOD. I found it weird that their senses were human normal when they weren't cats...that threw me off. Weres/shifters in most novels have enhanced senses because of what they are.
The book was great though...and Faythe (main character) was KICK ASS...just like I like 'em. :)

I tried the first one of these once and couldn't get into it...should I try it again?

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Can't believe no one suggested Shelley Laurenston books. Go Fetch and Here Kitty Kitty were my faves

I picked it up from the library today! :)

message 19: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) Is the Kate Daniels series good? I tried it once I think...I remember vaguely something crawling on the walls and ceiling in the first book? weird.
Anyway, not that I need another author to catch up with right now but still. Maybe eventually I'll check it out.

message 20: by new_user (new)

new_user LOL, Elvia! The vampire. If you didn't like the first book, then I don't think you'll like the rest, just my guess. I haven't read them, but I think the next two are much in the same vein as the first. There really wasn't much setup in the first novel. It was already an episode.

message 21: by Elvia (last edited Aug 14, 2009 09:11AM) (new)

Elvia (elvb) I think it just threw me for a loop...creepy dude on the ceiling. Just wasn't expecting it I guess. lmao
Also, when I had it to read I also had a few other books I KNEW I'd like so I dug those out instead. When I'm officially done "catching up" on the other series' I'm in the middle of (what? it could happen) I will retry Kate Daniels.

message 22: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Each book in the Kate Daniels series gets better and better. I just read the 3rd one and did not want it to end. That first book was more world building than plot, to me. Definitely urban fantasy, a bit dark, lots of violence. I was hooked from book one, though, but I really loved book three.

message 23: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) I will definitely give it another try, then. I love the violent ones. ;)

message 24: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne | 286 comments Nalini Singhs Pys-Changelings has Shifters...the first book Slave to Sensation is really really good. I was a vamp girl but think shifters have the edge with the touchy feely Alpha thing:)

Ever since I read Revs Book I have been trying to figure out what his sister is,the one that forces him to have sex.Is she a shifter? And talk about awful-A Snake of all things.
Does anyone have any thoughts about her to share?

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

What about the Mona Lisa Series by Sunny? I've only read the first book but there was some shifting going on. The first book was pretty good and I'm hoping to dive into the 2nd book pretty shortly.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, that is a bit disappointing. Sometimes that is one of the draw backs to a series. Either the first book is the best or you have to drag yourself through the first two books to get to the third which is really the best book.

message 29: by Jennifer (last edited Jan 28, 2010 09:17PM) (new)

Jennifer (jnhart) Saint Peter's Wolf by Michael Cadnum was a good book. It had a crazy take on how to become a werewolf.

Anyone remember the movie "Bad Moon?" It was based on this book that is told from the family dog's point of view: Thor by Wayne Smith

stormhawk | 1184 comments I just read Wolf Signs by Vivian Arend. It was accidental. I was downloading a batch of free kindle books, missed that this one had a price on it and ended up with it, decided to read it instead of going through the process of "returning" it.

I suppose it's good if you like that sort of book, but it didn't do a whole lot for me.

message 31: by Nona (new)

Nona (goodreadscomnona) | 102 comments I'm reading Christine Feehan Dark Prince and from what info I've covered Carpathian males are shape shifters for centuries and if they don't find a life mate they turn Vampire, interesting concept if you ask me. Still trying to decide if I will continue the series.

Steven Belanger | 43 comments In terms of just plain shifters, you absolutely have to read Peter Straub's Ghost Story. One of 2 or 3 actually scary things I've ever read. Read it; I insist.

Steven, I have to agree on that book being one of the scariest I've read!! When I read that I literally had goosebumps on my arms & could feel that tingly-prickly feeling at the back of my neck!! LOL

message 35: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 266 comments Well, I don't know if you'd consider it, but I just finished reading Red Riding Hood by Sarah Blakley-Cartwright - it's a tie-in to the new movie coming out next month. I admit I did figure out the story pretty early on, but I liked it... was a quick read - I read most of it in one day while stranded on the cruise ship in Galveston because of dense fog -- Had nothing to look at but the fog, so pulled out the book & finished it up. I really enjoyed it... could envision it "playing out" in my mind, and have to say that it makes me look forward to the movie release even more!! :)

sonya marie madden | 441 comments try gayle greeno. Her Sunderlies Seeking series has cats that are telepathic with humans. their speech is a cat meow and it has a separate name from any other language. I love cats. they also speak to each other.

Lacy (lacy_stewart) Need (Need, #1) by Carrie Jones Need by Carrie Jones has different types of shifters: wolf, some type of bird, tiger, and a bear.

Morrigan's Cross (Circle Trilogy, #1) by Nora Roberts Morrigan's Cross by Nora Roberts is the first book of this trilogy and the shifter can turn into any animal. It is pretty cool.

The true blood series has shifters

Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) by Charlaine Harris
