Suzanne | 767 comments Kourtney - She also responded to my tweet awhile back and we even private messaged a bit. :) And I think you might be right... ;)

Not weird at all - I am the same way! I am way more into authors than most actors/sports figures/etc.

Julie Hi All! I have been such a slacker lately.....been so busy with family/work/financing for new house, etc, etc.

Hope everyone is doing well! Will try to catch up soon.....

Yes, I totally understand! That is interesting about the Mia March thing. What do you do all day that you are bored? I work at a library and I can't sit and read unless on lunch break or off shift.

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments Jencey - I used to work in HR, but was presented with an opportunity to become a system administrator (I was the subject matter expert for HR when we moved onto a new system) The person who hired me then quit, then the new boss I had quit. I have now become an overpaid, overqualified data entry person. I have maybe 2 hours of work total a day, but have to sit here for 8. I play A LOT on my phone - Twitter, Netflix, and my Kindle are my go to apps, although the game 2048 has snuck in there as well. While a lot of people say how lucky I am, I would give anything to be back in HR and be busy again. I hate not making a difference in the Company.

Going to see my recruiter on Friday. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Good luck Kourtney! That's exactly how I've felt for the last, oh, I don't know, eight years at least! When I think about my job, it always makes me think of the quote from Office Space. "I'd say in any given week, I do about 15 minutes of solid work." :)

It's funny, some people think that with my new job, I'm getting a pay increase. I'm actually taking almost a dollar an hour cut in pay (not to mention, more expensive insurance) in order to get into my chosen field. I've been at this place for so long, I'm sure I'm the only AA that makes as much as I do. Severely overpaid.

And I was just talking to my co-worker earlier, there is a lot of random weirdness and/or BS that we put up with here. And I can't tell if it has increased this week, or if I'm just more irritated by it, knowing that I won't have to put up with it anymore after a week and a half. Anyone that works any job that deals with the general public is likely to know what I'm talking about. We deal with people from ALL walks of life here. ALL of them. And some are downright creepy/crazy. I realize, that I may still have to deal with some of these types of people, but they won't be just random people. Does that make sense to anyone but me?

Jencey - I would LOVE to get a job in a library. I have tried a couple times to get into my library but they never call me. *sigh* (LOL) I know there's work to be done and it's not about sitting around and reading, but to be surrounded by all those books....THAT would be totally awesome. Yeah, I'm that much of a geek. ;)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments It will be worth it though because you can make good money in HR - and we can go to conferences together!!! Look into joining your local PIHRA and SHRM (sometimes employers pay for membership fees) so that you can attend the conferences. I usually do the PIHRA ones and love them. And if you progress and they want you to get your PHR or SPHR come talk to me as I had my PHR at one time (I was unable to recertify - long story). Also start signing up for things like HR.com or groups on LinkedIn. The main thing for HR is keeping up with the laws before someone else has to tell you :) And Michigan is a pretty easy state to do that for. California? BAH!!!

I've heard of SHRM and planned to join that one, but I hadn't heard of PIHRA. I'll check that one out. And I plan to get the certification, but I have to have a certain # of years of experience first. :(

Thanks for the advice Kourt! I'll sign up for those right now! You need to get back into HR so we can go to a conference together. :)

Bianca,
Yes, I work for the library. There are posts and not so wonderful postives. I work this week Monday through Saturday. Monday my hours are 11:30 am to 8:15 pm. Monday is my least favorite. The rest of the week is 8:30 to 5:15. I have about an hour to forty five minutes commute. I love what I do but wish I had a shorter commute.

Kourtney,
Good luck! I see how it is. You know one ironic thing about working in a library you would think I would have loads of time to read. I don't actually. Today I read on my phone because we were without internet for four and half hours. I couldn't do anything else.

Tara Good Thought: It's Friday, it's supposed to be warmer here in Michigan this weekend and tomorrow I will be in Chicago all day! My niece is getting a new American Girl doll for her birthday (Feb 2) and we didn't want to go when it was so cold. It's supposed to be warmer there than in Michigan tomorrow.

Bad Thought: I am ready to be done with the finance class that I am in. On top of working 35 hours per week, I have 40 hours of homework to do after work. Last night I worked on homework for 5 1/2 hours. I have no time to read and that's what I want to do!!! I have a research paper due two weeks and I don't feel like doing it. Is that bad? One more six week class and then I am done for the Summer! Bring on the beach!

message 365: by Bianca (new)

Bianca (bbollinger) | 761 comments Jencey, that's so cool!! Yeah, I can see how you don't get any time to read while at work...every time I go to the library all the workers look really busy.

Good thought: Friday, Friday! And it's getting up to the low 90s this weekend. Summer is coming! I'm hoping to hit up the pool regardless of the fact that I haven't gotten in shape for summer yet. Haha. Every spring I get super excited for summertime in Texas...and then when it hits 100 degrees and continues to get hotter, I totally forget why I always look forward to it. Haha.

Anyway, I'm finally out of my reading funk. I finished Dawson's Creek and Hart of Dixie, both of which I was binge-watching on Netflix, and I now I'm book-binging. Yay! Happy to be back in the groove.

That is a really good idea. :) Hadn't thought about that before. Unfortunately, I don't have a whole lot of time to volunteer. My library closes on Sundays between Memorial Day and Labor Day and that's about the only day I'd have time to do it. Otherwise, I have my daughter, or there's just too much going on during the week.

We've had crazy weather here recently...a tornado warning and a crazy amount of rain last Thursday. Thunderstorms and flash flood yesterday, today and supposedly tomorrow. And today it's in the 60s! Which is crazy considering last weekend it was like 90. Haha.

I haven't been on my computer at home in a while, I've been beyond exhausted every night this week and have been going to bed early.

Last week, we had great weather for a few days, now the bottom has dropped out again and we have a freeze warning for tonight. Next week is back in the 70's. Mother Nature needs to make up her mind and stop being the stereotypical woman. :)

So here's my random thought for the day.

I have a blog that I started years ago with only a few posts. Then I forgot about it for the longest time.

I joined Net Galley a couple years (or maybe just a year?) ago and also forgot about it for a long time.

Just recently started trying to get more into Net Galley in order to get those oh so coveted advanced reader copies of my favorite authors when they come up.

I have my blog listed on there (Net Galley), but it's embarrassing because I only have two followers. :(

I've been posting book reviews on there, and at some point, when I don't have so much to do around the house, I plan to use it to post other stuff....and hope that someone, somewhere, finds it funny and/or interesting....hopefully.....

Anyway, in order to not be so embarrassed about it, if any of you wouldn't mind, could you follow me? This is the link: http://haphazardslicesoflife.blogspot...

I feel silly asking, but I don't know how else to get the word out. Thanks in advance. :)

Julie I will definitely follow you Stacy..... I just need to set up a google account first. I will do that later this evening, okay?

Cool, thanks Jencey!

Random thought: Or maybe not so random. Yesterday was my kiddo's 9th birthday. Holy crap, how time flies. Sadly, she was with her dad this year and I only got to have a four minute phone conversation with her to wish her a happy birthday. Because while I make sure she calls her dad (or answer the phone when he calls) on her birthday on the years I have her and actually has plenty of time to talk, he didn't let her call me until they were walking into a restaurant to eat dinner. *sigh*

But I get her back in about 40 minutes and I can't wait to give her a big birthday hug. But first, I need to finish decorating her cake. :)
