I can totally relate to the snow. I am in NY and although I don't get it as bad as you Stacy we just had it again this morning. We have had more snow this season so far then I can rememeber. I love the first 10 minutes of every snow storm or even hour. The pretty white stuff falling from the sky. Thinking about laying around all lazy and watching tv or reading. Then BAM reality sets in and I say f**k now I have to commute in this shit wear boots be cold and heaven forbid shovel. Last week it took me 5 hours to get home from work and I only live 40 miles from my job. I was ready to die thank heaven for audiobooks.

Wow! I bet you probably almost finished a book in that time! Lucky for me, I only live a little over a quarter mile from work. And my daughter's school and daycare are only about five miles away, so I don't have to drive in it much. But OMG, I am SO SICK of wearing boots!!!

The book does look good!! Let us know what you think. :)
And Dawn - it took you FIVE HOURS to get home? I would be SO unbelievably frustrated. That's so annoying. Good thing you had your audiobooks!
We did finish a book that night. Besides wanting to kill each other and everyone around us. It was Sisters by Danielle Steel. So good if you haven't read it do so.
Apparently I've hit a jackpot or something. Got another email from the same publishing person asking if I wanted a copy of another book to review. This one also sounds like a great book: Happily Ever After: A Novel. :)

Totally made my day again!
Totally made my day again!
Maybe since she saw my address is in Michigan, she felt bad because of all the flippin' snow we have (more than 80 inches this season), I'll be stuck inside on my ass with nothing to do......and she's right. LOL!
We are getting more snow now. :( I think it just started. Up to 10 inches over the next few days. UGH. :(
we were supposed to get some on Saturday but I don't think it's happening thank god. Stacy curl up and watch some Netflix.
We had white-out conditions last night due to blowing snow and were supposed to get about an inch in accumulation.
Tomorrow however, we are supposed to get dumped on again, along with Tuesday next week. *sigh*
And I've been reading weather forecasts that say February is pretty much going to be the same as January - cold and full of snow. I'm thisclose to hibernating.
Good news is, my snowblower is out for delivery and should be on my front porch when I get home.
Dawn - I will most likely do that tomorrow. It will make the third Saturday in a row where we do not leave the house all day. yay.......

The weather here is pretty much the same, Stacy. :( I am supposed to go on a date tomorrow but now I don't know if it's going to happen. As much as I want to go, I am not looking forward to going out in the snow. Ugh, this snow is making me miserable!!
I spent the last 2 weekends catching up on Hart of Dixie. I think I am going to go for PPL this weekend or Homeland. Thank heavens for Tivo, Hulu ,Netflix and my ipad. Maybe ill finish a book or two as well.

That really sucks, Suzanne (but I'm happy for you too). :( Maybe you can reschedule for Sunday?
I'm right there with you in the miserable department. My grandma has been in the hospital since Monday. She has a mass in her colon that they believe is cancer, still waiting for the biopsy to come back. But she's had it before, so it's likely the same thing. However, she's 91 years old, so this is pretty much it. She doesn't want to undergo anything drastic, and doesn't even know yet if they can do anything. The mass is large enough that it's causing blockage, which causes a lot of pain. She's supposed to have a stress test today to see if she can handle even the least invasive of treatments, which would be to put a stint in to make it so her colon is open. But they'd leave the mass and let it go until it takes her. I grew up right next door to this set of grandparents and I lost my grandpa on my high school graduation day. It's been a tough week emotionally on top of the Seasonal Affective Disorder stuff. So I've been pretty miserable too because even though she's had a long life, I just didn't think this is how it would end. She's been through a lot healthwise, and I had assumed/hoped that she would just go peacefully in her sleep without any prior complications or pain. And what really sucks, is that I usually go down and visit with her and my mom & stepdad (they all live about an hour south of me) every other week. But with this weather, I haven't been down since right after Christmas. And I didn't stop at my grandma's that time because I was getting over the flu and an infection and I didn't want to get her sick. I honestly can't remember the last time I visited her. I was going to try to go see her in the hospital tomorrow, but now I can't because of the weather. And Sunday won't work because I don't have my daughter (and I won't even bother asking my ex if I can have her for half the day, he's an ass and will say no), and she's the favorite great-grandchild, so it wouldn't be as much of a uplifting visit for her without Morgan. So here's hoping for next weekend....
Dawn - I recommend PLL, it's such a good show. One of those ones that will make you want to watch the next episode right away.

OMG Stacy I knew we were soul sisters. I grew up with my grandma living upstairs from me and although we lost her 7 years ago I still miss her everyday and I will tell you it gets easier but it never dies. Grandmas are the best thing in life and you should as soon as the weather is doable get your ass in the car even if its a work/school night just to see her for an hour. I bet she would love it. There is no better love than a grandmas. I miss mine everyday and I wish I could have her back if just for one more day. So sorry for what you and she is going thru. xoxoxo
Thanks Dawn. I just finally found out today that it's not as dire a situation as I was previously led to believe. It's still bad, they can't do anything for her other than pain management because her heart can't take anything else. But it's not as critical right now as they originally thought. Still can't put a time frame on it of course. The doctor said it could be two months, or it could be a year. But at least we'll still have her for a bit.
Losing a family member is tough, especially when you're close, and funerals are the worst. I'd really rather not go to them, but it feels disrespectful not to. I've had a difficult time with funerals (family members and others) since my dad's. You're right Dawn, it never gets easier, and going to a funeral always brings it all back. It's been eight years and it still sucks. But I try to focus on the positive memories and not the loss. And that definitely helps.
Changing the subject, my snow blower was delivered yesterday. So today, as the snow was falling, I didn't fret as I normally would. I just let it build up so I could really test out the snow blower. Had it out of the box, put together and running in less than 20 minutes. Took about 40 minutes to actually snow blow my driveway and most of my sidewalk (as far as the cord would allow me to go...it's about six feet too short, oh well). Then I took a few more minutes with the shovel to finish the sidewalk, clean off my front steps and go back over some areas of built up ice/snow in my driveway from driving over it, and all the gunk at the end from the snowplows. I was back inside in about an hour and a half from start to finish.
Normally, when we have a light, fluffy snow, about 4-5 inches like what we had today, it would take me about an hour and a half to get it all. But today, the snow was the wet, heavy stuff which would've taken me even longer. So I have to say, I'm quite pleased with the snow blower.
Suzanne - try this, I'm going to try it too. We all know that S.A.D. is caused from a lack of Vitamin D, which we get from the sunlight. So, I'm going to start taking a Vitamin D supplement and see if it helps. I have been told that we need about 3,000 to 5,000 IUs of D every day to help with the depression. If you try it, let me know how it works for you.

Wow, Stacy, I'm so sorry you're going through all that. My entire family - other than my mom, bro, and sis - live in Brazil, so I don't see them very often. Did I ever mention I'm from Brazil? Well, I am. I moved to Texas when I was six years old and freaking love it. I would never want to move back to Brazil, but I also haven't visited in a long time. It's hard because flights are SO expensive and then we all have to find a common week or so we can take off from work to get down there. My grandma is down in Brazil, and I miss her a lot. She's so adorable and I have the best memories of my childhood in her kitchen, on the couch watching soap operas, and running around her backyard. She's diabetic and getting older, so 12 hour flights are really tough on her so she can't come visit anymore. I haven't been to Brazil to see them in like...seven years? But hopefully in the next couple of years I can visit again. :)
Hey Ladies,Just got dumped another 8 inches yesterday and more tonight. Stacy I am starting to feel your depression as well. I am getting sick of this and this morning my poor brother wiped out in front of our office building hit his head on the cement wall and I couldn't even get to him because I was still climbing the 2 foot bank of snow on the curb where we park. Thankfully the sweet lady from upstairs was there to help me get to him. But oh man what a morning. Just had to bitch now I feel better. Love you ladies hope your staying safe and warm.
Hope your brother didn't get hurt very badly Dawn! You know, I wouldn't mind the snow so much if it was the weekend, and I could curl up on my couch with a good book, but when it's during the week & we still have to go to work.....YUCK
We don't have any here yet, and I'm hoping we will not get any soon!
Thanks Julie, he is ok. 5 or more inches again this morning but I made it into work finally. Sometimes I am pissed I bought a truck. If I had a wimpy car I would have all these nice days off.

Thanks Bianca, no you hand't mentioned that. Kind of a funny coincidence, my daughter's stepmom is from Brazil. Not sure what part though. That sucks that you haven't been able to get down there. Hopefully you'll be able to soon!
Things with my grandma have been so back and forth the last few days. It's rough. Friday night, it sounded bad after talking to my mom who had just come from visiting her in the hospital. Saturday, my fears were put to rest as it sounded like she would just be in the nursing home for rehabilitation and be able to go home once that was done. And everything else wasn't as dire as I thought, they weren't considering her as being critical.
Then, Sunday night, I get a text my from Morgan's dad saying she's had a fever all day and won't be able to go to school on Monday. I told him ok, that I would be able to stay home with her. Monday morning, I get a call from my mom saying if I can make it down to see grandma Monday night, I should because it's not looking good. I told her about Morgan being sick and that I couldn't go.
Yesterday, Morgan still has a fever (originally thought to be from the flu) and I took her to the doctor to find out she has a hella UTI. That poor kid, she's had so many of them that it doesn't even burn when she goes to the bathroom anymore. We don't even know she has one until it gets to the fever stage. So, after finding that out, my mom said we should get down to see my grandma ASAP because she's really pale and her hemoglobin has dropped way down.
Since the snow wasn't supposed to start until after 6pm last night, we went ahead and made the trip down. I'm so glad we both got to see her. I'm planning on going down again on Saturday, and hopefully we'll get to see her again.

I wish it would rain here and turn everything to slush. I think we're supposed to get a little more snow tomorrow, but that looks like that's it for the next ten days...fingers crossed!! It's just going to be super cold at night, in the negatives for a low. :( If there's no snow, I'll take it I guess.
Thank you, she is. Bactrim (sp?) is a miracle medicine. She had a dose of it yesterday and by the time she woke up this morning, fever was gone. I just wish we'd thought of it Monday. Poor kid.
Sorry you're getting hit with so much snow, Dawn. I know how much that sucks. :(

Oh, but I did have a good thing happen yesterday.
When we were leaving yesterday to go visit my grandma, I noticed some footprints going up to my front door that were not mine. So I stopped the car, got out, and walked up my front steps. I opened the door, and there was a box from Amazon tucked between the front door and the screen door. It was my pre-ordered copy of Twisted Sisters by Jen Lancaster! Yay!

I LOVE WHEN THAT HAPPENS STACY. I CAN'T REMEMBER THE LAST TIME I PURCHASED A BOOK. I am reading them all digital now until I make some room on my book shelves by reading the 200 plus books I have accumulated over the last 5 years I am not buying anything real. I have been really good with it. Now if I could just do that with my clothing and shoe habits.

I don't buy actual books anymore either unless it's an author I really love, like Jen Lancaster. Or the book I'm going to a book signing for. Usually, I get them from the library, or I get the free ones online.

Stacy - I can't go to Jen Lancaster's book signing next week because it's the same night as my tap class. :( Since we are learning our recital routine, I really don't want to miss class. I'm bummed, but hopefully she'll be back later this year. I am pretty much the same way with books - I only buy actual books if it's one of my favorite authors or I'm going to a book signing. Otherwise I get them from the library. I buy Kindle books if they are cheap (under $5) or I can't get it from the library.
Stacy, so sorry for all that your family is going through. Hopefully things get better soon. :)That's exciting that your book came in!! I love when little things like that show up just when you need them most. :) When it comes to buying books, I usually head to the library first. But, like you said, if it's an author I really like, I think about buying it. Normally when there's a book I want to read I'll check if they have it at the library, and if they don't, I compare the price of the ebook to the price of the actual book and just get whatever is cheaper. When I was reading the Shopaholic series a couple years ago I really didn't plan ahead...I had the first two books and then when I finished them I HAD to start the next one. There was no possible way I could wait to go to the bookstore, wait for Amazon to ship, or even wait for the library. So I bought all of them on my Kindle. Haha. Spent way more money than I intended to, and now I face palm myself when I see all those books in the clearance section of Half Price Books. Ugh. But now I plan ahead. :)

Thanks for asking, Dawn, I did. I went down to see her on Saturday. I don't know, Dawn. It's hard to say. She's pretty weak, there was more color in her face than there was on Tuesday. But my mom said when she walked in the room (I had to use the restroom first), my grandma was crying and was red in the face because she had a lot of pain in her stomach. The aides had just been in to give her pain meds and they helped because she was able to sit up on her own by the time we left. But both my mom and I are thinking that the cancer likely spread to her stomach and that's what's causing the pain. She still has the pain in her neck and I'm thinking about the possibility that it spread to her lymph nodes and that's why her neck hurts.
It's one of the nicest nursing homes I've been into, but the doctor only goes there on Tuesdays and Fridays. She's been in there a week and hasn't seen the doctor yet, which I'm pretty irritated with. Last Tuesday she didn't get to see him because she didn't get her request in on time. Then on Friday, he was there, but they didn't want to wake her up because she hadn't gotten much rest the night before due to her roommate having problems. I think that's BS, and they should've woken her up.
But yeah, no idea how much longer she'll be with us. It's not looking good for even the short-term.

Ahh Stacy I am so sorry to hear that. I believe the prettier the Nursing Home the worse the service is. My Boyfriends Grandfather is in one and it appeared so nice to me the first 5 times I have been there and then we went upstairs to the floor he actually sleeps on and Boy what a difference. I have never smelled anything like that in my entire life. I was shocked and appalled. I have learned that unless you stay on top of them with 100 calls and visits they will leave you to rot. Not to scare you more but I would start leaving that Tuesday/Friday doctor a message everyday until he answers you. I wish you good luck and keep us posted we are thinking of you and rooting for Granny. xoxo
Thanks Dawn. I don't really have any complaints about the place other than their sense of urgency with the doctor. :/
I'm sorry that your boyfriend's grandpa is not in a good place. They're so hard to find.

Ahh so sorry you both are dealing with that :( I hope things get better soon, and please keep us posted!!
Saw my grandma again today. Her roommate passed on Thursday and I think it's bothering her. But I also think it lit a fire for her in that she doesn't want to pass there. She wants to be at home. I think/hope she's going to muster up the strength to get back home so she can go in peace, among her own familiar surroundings. She looked a little better today than she did last week, but her blood pressure has been spiking, so that's kind of worrisome. I hope she's able to go home.
They've taken her off of her blood thinner pills so her heart is working harder to pump her blood, and as much as I hate to say this, as morbid as it sounds, I hope her heart gives out on her before the cancer wreaks havoc on her. I don't want her to go through that.
On a different subject, where in the heck has the first month and a half of this year gone? Holy crap! My boyfriend and I have been talking about living together once his lease is up, which he thought was either April or May. And when we first started talking about it, it was a long time away yet, or it seemed like it was. He got a letter in the mail from the management company last week saying his lease is up April 30th. We weren't totally decided on what we were going to do - make my house work, rent a house in the city I live in (he lives in the city next to mine), or buy a house in my city. Last month, my mom kept telling me that we needed to figure it out because the time was coming up fast and I told her no, we had plenty of time. But now, holy crap! Two and a half months until the end of his lease. We've decided to make my house work, but we have some things we have to do in order for it to work as he is coming with three kids (possibly four if the oldest one comes back home again). I have a three bedroom house, but he works at home and needs an office, which, if his boys share a room, leaves us two rooms too short. So, we're going to make a couple bedrooms in the basement and put in a half bath down there too, possibly a 3/4 bath. And, we just decided tonight that it'd probably be a good idea to bump the living room out to make it a little bigger (it's really kinda small), and put in a bay window. That's pretty much just to make it livable with six people. Once we're done with all that, we're going to save money so we can put a down-payment on a bigger house. And since I was able to get my house at a pretty decent price, all the changes we'll be making will make it worth more, so I should be able to make a little profit on it when we sell, which will be awesome.

Wow Stacy that's awesome. How long have you been together now that we are talking moving in? I think you made the right choice by having him move in. Seems like to me you finally got your house and you did it all on your own for you and Morgan. The improvements he wants to make will only increase the value of your home and that's a plus. Plus if it doesn't work out you will have more time to look for something better and not have to worry about where your going to live if you guys rent something. Congrats on all and good luck with dealing with 4 more people living in your personal space. I'm sure that will be a rough adjustment. Does Morgan at least get along with his kids?
Thanks! We started dating at the end of August. And yeah, at least if things don't work out this time, I don't have to worry about anything. But I'm hoping/thinking it will, we both have the same basic personality and are both pretty laid back about stuff.
You're right though, it's going to be one hell of a change to go from two people to six people. He has half-time custody of his kids on paper, but they're with him most of the time. They don't like being at their mom's. His two boys are 12 and 10 and youngest daughter is 17, she's at his house every night and his sons are four nights per week. It's going to be a houseful. LOL

My boyfriend and his son just moved in with me over the weekend. It doubled my house-size from 2 to 4 and even that is an adjustment! LOL

Congrats Julie! I'm sure it's an adjustment, especially if it was just two of you for a while.
I just had a conversation with my boss (he worked in construction for a long time before changing careers) to get some advice about the things we're looking at doing. Sounds like some of it is going to be a huge pain in the butt.

I think any kind of home renovation is a huge pain in the butt! LOLI still rent, but I'm horrible with money. Hoping my frugal boyfriend can work out a livable budget that I won't choke on, so that we can save to buy a house later this year!

I'm not the greatest with money either, I hate living paycheck to paycheck. But my bf makes more than I do, so with the combined incomes, I'm hoping things will be better for all of us. Funny though, because he's the one that doesn't mind spending extra on stuff, and I'm the one that looks for coupons and discounts and any way that I can pinch a penny til it bleeds. But that was my upbringing. :)

Morgan and I started watching Once Upon a Time in Wonderland last night. I know we talked about this in another thread, but I can't remember which one, so I thought I'd post it here. Anyway, LOVING it! Especially since who knows when Once Upon a Time is going to come back on. GRRR!!! LOL! I love that it includes parts from The Enchanted Forest and Storybrook. And how it does the same thing that Once Upon a Time does - slowly reveals different characters' backstories in each episode. :)
Next random thought: I had to add my other gmail account (specifically for jobs) to my phone email today because I just had a thought to check it this morning for the first time in about a week. I had an email from a company that I applied to last week saying the hiring manager was interested in me as a candidate for the position and they wanted me to take an online assessment and fill out an application! I only had a five day window to complete it and today was the fifth day! Whew!! I would've been so upset if I missed it. So I took the assessment and found from the woman that sent the email that I had already submitted my app, so I didn't need to do that. Please keep your fingers crossed for me that I get the call for an interview! I am long past due for a job change.
