Bianca (bbollinger) | 761 comments I can't believe it's almost 4th of July. And that the year is halfway over. At this rate, it'll be Thanksgiving like tomorrow. Haha.

Do you guys have any fun plans for the 4th?!

Stacy (stacymarie913) | 5567 comments Mod
It's called Driving with the Top Down, I'm looking forward to reading it. :)

I know, I can't believe it's June 30th either. Though, at this rate, I'll be glad to have the next few years pass quickly. I like my job and the company I'm with, but I'm thinking it's too small of a company for me considering that I came from one with about 1500 employees (we might have 60-70). I'm starting to feel like my position is more of a formality and that I'm just here to complete the paperwork. Maybe once they transition payroll back to HR it'll pick up.

I guess I just take advantage and try to learn as much as possible through free online classes and webinars until I have the experience time in.

Anyway - for the 4th...I think we're going to go Thursday night with some friends to a beach town on Lake Michigan that's pretty well (around here anyway) known for their fireworks. And then, we're probably going to go Friday or Saturday for another fireworks show over a smaller lake a little bit north of us. I've never been to either place, so it should be fun.

How about you, Bianca?

My randoms for the day....Good Random - had a good time at Cedar Point - had a couple sets of friends go as well so there was a lot of waiting trying to figure out what to do next, which was a little frustrating. Especially when you have a kid like mine that wants to be on the go (and yeah, I guess I'm the same way). And, even though I hadn't been there since I was 17 and many, many pounds ago, I found that I still fit comfortably on all but two of the rides I went on (nothing like making you feel fatter than you already are when you're the one making it so the safety bars won't go down in your ENTIRE car full of six people, smh - then to be told by the operator that the front of the cars are the roomiest - just for future reference....yeah, thanks.....)

Bad random - I should've reapplied the sunscreen every hour I was outside. Holy crap - three times I sprayed myself down and I still fried like an egg in a cast iron skillet. Needless to say, I'm in a lot of pain today - it is the sunburn from the deepest depths of hell - worst I've ever had. But hey, at least it's not blistering. :) And I'd love to go back again so I can get on the rides I missed, but I need to lose those pounds that I found from last year...

Oh, and I just heard this morning that they finally hired my replacement at my old job. It's funny because two of the guys I used to work with, I see a few times a week on my way to or from work. So this morning, I stopped and chatted with one of them for a minute or two. According to him, the chick is a little weird. LOL! I do really miss the people I used to work with, even though I soooo needed to get out of there.

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments Good Randoms:

1) Went and saw Queen on Thursday and LOVED IT! Adam Lambert is my new love <3
2) My boyfriend returned after being away for 3 weeks for work!!!! I have never been more excited to see him!!!
3) Celebrated my birthday at Disneyland and received the best present ever!! My bf is taking me to London to attend the Dallas Cowboys game against Jacksonville and then we are off to Scotland! It's my first time ever going out of the country, so I am BEYOND excited!!
4) Had a telephone interview this morning that went well and I have the in person interview this Thursday! Things are looking up!

Bad Random:
1) I had a doctor appointment this morning where they had to draw blood. I have a fear of needles and got woozy with the first run. They didn't get enough blood so they had to use my other arm. I hyperventilated and fainted. Classy.
2) Monday came too soon!

Kourtney,

That sounds awesome. The Cowboys are playing in London?! How cool! I live in Dallas, and even though I'm not a huge football fan, I still root for the 'Boys. :)

How's this for a good/bad random - it all happened YESTERDAY:

Good Random: I GOT A NEW JOB!!!!! I will be back in HR for a local hospital as of August! Woo hoo! Gave my notice and have one week left of this job!

Bad Random: As I was driving home so happy and thankful, I was rear-ended! Nary a scratch on his car, but my car is completely bashed in (small car vs a large car - large car always wins). The kid declared "oh no not again!" and said that he had rear-ended someone else in the past. WTF! Why why why! Dropped my car off this morning and they said that it will take a week to fix or the insurance might just total my car out. I'm in a panic as I can't plan for anything until I hear from the claims adjuster. This really sucks!

Kourtney, congrats on the job! That's amazing!

So sorry about your car. The day after my birthday this year I was rear ended too. And it was during my lunch break at work, which disoriented the rest of my day. Anyway, the lady who hit me kept saying she didn't need to give me her insurance because there isn't that much damage. Um excuse me? So I called the cops. They said they're not coming because no one was hurt. So then the lady freaked and gave me her insurance. When I asked her for her driver's license, she didn't have it with her. And she never handed it over. I was pissed.

Weeks later her insurance tells me they can't fix my car because they can't get a hold of their driver who hit me. And since the cops didn't come, they have no record of the accident. WHAT!!! First of all, I called the cops and second, what kind of policy is it that if the driver avoids insurance calls they don't have to pay up? I was livid.

In the end they were able to pay for my car. So it all worked out. :) But dealing with stuff like that is such a time and energy drain! Kourney, I hope you get it all worked out soon. Just focus on your new job and fabulous up-coming trip! :)

OMG Bianaca - that sucks! I would've been pissed too!!

Kourtney - Congrats!!! And if you felt the way about your car the way I do mine, I'd say congrats that it might get totaled too. LOL! Otherwise, that sucks!

I saw a car accident happen right in front of me on Monday last week and my first thought, other than, "Idiot," was "Why couldn't that have been my car?" Then I realized I don't have medical insurance until August 1st so I'd better stop thinking those thoughts. It would be nice to have my car totaled out in an accident that isn't my fault so the GAAP insurance could pay it off. :)

message 477: by Kourtney (last edited Jul 17, 2014 02:16PM) (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments Thank you ladies - this day has been draining as I sit on pins and needles waiting for the adjuster to call. Thankfully the guy who hit me was up front with his information (and Bianca I had a similar situation in the past with an unlicensed driver who called her husband and they were trying to threaten me. Thankfully the cops came for me!)

I have been wanting to retire my car that I have had for 10 years for a while, but not like this! I was hoping to wait for when I had more money for car payments. My car has been paid off for years so if it is totaled I would be lucky to get $2000 off of it. I'm so concerned about how to pay the deductible and my car insurance (I'm up for renewal) - it's just a horrible money time for me right now.

My only plan at the moment? Have a coworker drive me home, get really really drunk and try to forget the stress!

And Stacy - I had a car totaled and the GAAP insurance paid me more than I had left to pay on my car! Back then $800 was a lot of money. Now? Psssshhh...

message 478: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 767 comments Kourtney - Congrats on the new job, but sorry about your car! Hope you get some answers soon!

Bianca- I got rear ended a couple years ago and the lady drove off. I didn't know what to do so I called the cops and they did not want to come out either! I finally convinced them to send someone out just so it would be on the record in case the damage was worse than it looked. You never know! And I convinced the guy to track down the driver who hit me. I had the license plate and make/model/color of the car, just like they tell you to get, and the cop didn't even care!

message 479: by Stacy (new)

Stacy (stacymarie913) | 5567 comments Mod
Kourtney - I haven't had to use GAAP personally, I just know of others that have were able to benefit from having it. I know I wouldn't get any money from it, but it would pay off my car loan which is, natch, upside down as I had to roll a couple grand from my last car into it. I did that once a long time ago and said I was never going to do it again, and what did I do? I let heated seats and a moon roof sway my decision. SMH

I can't believe you guys have had a hard time getting the police to come out to do an accident report. That is so crazy! It's their job!

message 480: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments Stacy - you may actually get money from GAAP insurance. Mine paid off my car loan and then gave me the $800. I got nothing from my personal insurance. I was so scared Toyota was going to ask for it back it took me a few months to cash it, and even then I put it in my savings for another 6 months! Of course it should go without being said that the hope is you would never have to use it. I just know if I ever buy another car with a loan, I will ALWAYS purchase the GAAP insurance. Didn't know what it was at the time but MAN I was happy I had it when my accident happened!

message 481: by Stacy (new)

Stacy (stacymarie913) | 5567 comments Mod

Yeah, I think it's time to start looking for a different job already, as much as I hate to. I've had multiple people telling me that I do not seem as happy as I used to be before changing jobs.

It's not entirely the going from a large, publicly traded company to a small, private company. Some of the things (that irritate the hell out of me) that happen here, can happen anywhere.

And since my ex has our daughter on his insurance through the end of the year, now is the time to do it, I guess, if I'm going to try to make another change. I'm actually considered applying for jobs that are temp to hire through a temp agency.

Considering that I've landed myself another job that doesn't have enough to keep me busy for 40 hours a week, I'll probably email you this week. My boyfriend's daughter watches Bates Motel, she seems to like it. She's really into all the creepy/horror stuff. I can't do it, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. I'm a chicken with an overactive imagination.

Yeah, this season was the last season for Drop Dead Diva. I watched maybe the first two to four episodes and I don't want to give anything away to anyone that hasn't watched and plans to, but for those who have....let me just say I didn't feel the need to watch beyond the last episode I watched. Ok, so two totally awesome randoms:

First, a few weeks ago (maybe not that long....), Beth Kendrick posted the cover of her new book due out next year on Facebook. It looked familiar to me, so I double checked and sure enough, it was the exact same cover used on another author's book years ago. So I mentioned it in the comments section of her post. I didn't know if it would piss her off, but (hopefully) if not, I thought she should know. (Ok, so let me interject that I am not THAT much of a geek. The book that previously used this particular cover was for sale in the bookstore that I frequented, and debated many, many times whether or not to buy it. And I really liked the cover, so it stuck in my head, natch.)

So about a week goes by and Beth doesn't respond. I figured I've pissed her off.

But no, I received a FB message from her thanking me for catching it! She said I was the only person that caught it and called me a rock star. She said her publisher was working to find a new cover.

How awesome is that?

So what else is awesome? I won two 1-day passes to Lollapalooza in Chicago this weekend!! The down side, I'm not sure we'll be able to go....or rather, I'm not sure if my bf will be able to go. :( I hope he can work it out (work stuff) to go because there are nine bands (out of sooo many that will be there just that day) that I want to see. Headliner - Kings of Leon!!!!

Fingers crossed!!!!!!

Haven't heard of it. There's another site that, for $15/month (I think), is like Netflix - you can borrow an ebook for a certain amount of time. I'm not entirely sure of the details, but it sounded like a cool idea.

I would think that Amazon would have all the books they have available listed. That would be really crappy if they only had certain ones and not others.

Suzanne - It sounds like we'll be able to go. My bf was scheduled to work, but I think he may be able to figure it out. Just have a schedule kids/dogs. I think we're going to take the SouthShore in because there's a station right at Grant Park where Lolla is held. So all we'll have to do is drive to Michigan City - only about an hour drive. :) We can sleep on the train on the way home. :) I told him if he could make it so, it would count for birthday and Christmas for the next three years, LOL. Ever since I heard about it last year, I wanted to go SO BAD!!!!

Bianca - I know, totally made my day that one of my favorite authors called me a rock star. :)

I won the tickets from a radio station by listening for the "keyword of the day" and texting it in! (I kept telling my bf to text it too, LOL.) I've never won anything like this before - the 1 day passes are $100 each. Usually it's my daughter that wins stuff. I guess some of her luck rubbed off on me. :) Then again, it's a newer format for this radio station, I don't know how big their following is. I remember something like ten years ago, they used to play hard rock (I think, if I can remember correctly), then one day I turned it on and they had switched to country. I'm not a big fan of country so I didn't bother listening anymore. About a year or so ago, someone at my old job started listening to it and they were advertising their new format, alternative rock, and that they were the only radio station to guarantee 56 minutes of music every hour. I was like, "Hell yeah!" Of course now, it's dropped to 52 minutes, now that they've gotten more popular and places are buying radio advertisements. But it's still my favorite station to listen to. :)
