Ok, so I thought I'd start a random thoughts thread because, well.....I thought we needed one. LOL

Anyway, I just remembered my Ultimate Chick Lit Authors/Titles challenges and my RDI books challenge and realized I did not consult any of those lists when I chose my books for this challenge. I just looked at recently released books and upcoming releases (which is what I usually do) and then filled in the gaps mostly with whatever ebooks I have that fit (because I'm finding that my ipad is my preferred method of reading - and because of that, I'm sort of finding myself wanting either the new ipad air, or an ipad mini......). Stupid me! I should've been using these lists, no wonder I hardly read any of the books on them last year. (Facepalm!!!)

So ok, there's my random thought for the day. Who's next?

message 2: by Nancy (new)

Nancy S | 299 comments I just realized I have 4 different audio books going at one time. Two book cds checked out from the library, 1 in the car, 1 at home to listen to at night. One click digital audiobook downloaded to my iphone and one OverDrive audiobook downloaded to the netbook. Not to mention the 12 other books I have checked out from the library. I will not even mention how many free books are downloaded onto my kindle that I have not read. Too much to read not enough time!!!

LOL, I'm right there with you on the too many books. I went through my to read list the other day and deleted a bunch that I don't see myself getting around to reading. Which is part of the reason why I just listed a bunch of books on the swapping sites too.

I go through these phases where I feel the need to purge something, and this time, it happened to be my to read list and the books I have at home. I'm starting to feel the itch to clean out my closet, which will mean a lot of time on Ebay. LOL!

Random thought for today, sort of a continuation from yesterday's thought - I'm setting up new "shelves" on here as another place to house these "ultimate" chicklit books and authors. That way, when I'm looking for books to fill challenge tasks, they're a lot easier to look up rather than having to find my challenge list.

The authors one is more time consuming because, for a lot of them, I have to go through their list of books and find one that appeals to me. And some of them are hard to find one that's appealing. :/

Stacy, where are you finding all these lists?! I have this irrational fear of running out of good books. Haha. Like I spent soooo much time NOT reading the Shopaholic series because I didn't want to be done with them. Is that weird? It's weird. I, too, have so many free/99 cents books on my Kindle that I haven't read yet along with books from the library, books from the book store... So yes, I need to do a book reading purge soon too. I'm in a book rut right now, though, and need to get back in the reading game! I think it's because I have a new addicted to American Horror Story...SOOOO GOOD!!! And now all my shows are coming back on... it's weird but I go through phases. Like i obsessively read and then after I'll obsessively catch up on shows. Then once I'm caught up I'll go back to reading. I don't think I usually do both at once.

Dawn rizzi (dawnie278) | 378 comments Omg guys I can totally relate to all these comments. I am in the middle of 6 different books maybe more. Audio and kindle version. Oh and some paperbacks sitting by my bed. Stacy go for the mini so nice to carry around and you can leave your Big Boy at home to watch Netflix on in bed. That's what I do. So much lighter to carry around.

Now that I'm done with school, I've been getting sucked into TV shows right and left! Used to be that I ONLY watched PLL and The Carrie Diaries. I've had Netflix for a while, but I now have access to my bf's Hulu Plus account and have found a few shows on there. Ugh! Over the summer, I found Drop Dead Diva on Netflix so I'm totally addicted to that. And recently found Once Upon A Time - between Netflix and Hulu, I am now caught up on that show.

BUT, thanks to my bf, I now watch Grimm and Almost Human. Plus, we started watching Breaking Bad from the beginning. ARRRGGGGHHH!!!! Too much TV! LOL!!

The TV, in addition to my Rainbow Loom addiction (I can now proudly say it has been one week since I've made a bracelet) has caused a serious drop in the time I normally spend reading.

As for finding the lists....someone on here found the ulitmate books one a while back, but I can't remember who. And I found the ulitmate author one a year or so ago by accident. I think I was trying to find an updated version of the books one - which I'm still on the lookout for.

Here's a link to both lists: www.chicklitclub.com/ultimate100.html and www.chicklitclub.com/ultimate100autho...

I saw the Wonderland one but I haven't watched it yet. Didn't know it was created by the same people that did Lost. I think I might've watched one episode of that show. I think it's on Netflix and I may have to watch it at some point.

I'm caught up with Once Upon a Time, waiting for a new episode. Unless there was one Sunday night? But I didn't think there was.

I have no idea when Drop Dead Diva comes back on, if it hasn't already. Has it? I haven't checked yet....

LOST IS AMAZING!! You have to watch it.

Once Upon a Time isn't on yet...comes back in 50 days. And Drop Dead Diva's air date has not been announced yet. Haha I have an app on my phone that keeps track of all my TV shows and tells me when the next episode will be on. :)

Bianca (bbollinger) | 761 comments My random thought of the day: I think I want to re-read the Harry Potter series. I've read the earlier ones SO MANY TIMES because every time a new book came out I'd re-read all the previous books. But then when all the movies started coming out and everyone was so unbelievable obsessed with it I put the books and movies away and haven't thought much about them in a while. Yes, I've read and seen all of them. But not in a long time. I guess if I re-read them I'd start up at book 4. Maybe. But then I remember how angry I was at the end of the 7th book ( SPOILER ALERT!!!) and who Harry ended up with. I did NOT care for her. I was sooooo crazy about the series and now I don't think about them any more. Have any of you re-read them recently?

message 31: by Julie (new)

Julie I usually don't re-read books at all. I feel there are so many good ones out there to read that I don't ever want to re-read any.

However, I did make an exception with the Harry Potter series. I re-read the entire series (starting at book 1) when the 7th one came out. When there is a long time between each book, sometimes it's hard to remember everything that happened!

Stacy (stacymarie913) | 5567 comments Mod
My random thought for today....I don't want to go back to work tomorrow. I took off Thursday, Friday and today to get a mini break, and here I'm at the end of it. Part of it, is because I'm just not feeling like it was enough time away, and part of it is because it's going to be so freaking cold tomorrow, with yet more snow that I will have to shovel out of my driveway. I keep trying to remind myself that I no longer share walls with people, but having had to shovel snow more days than not this winter....I don't know....

Does anyone else deal with Seasonal Affective Disorder? I've been dealing with it for years, and come every January, I get pretty down about everything. This year has been the worst and I'm 100% positive it is directly weather related, and not just a lack of sunshine. We keep getting snowstorm after snowstorm and I'm done with it. I want to tell Old Man Winter to go screw himself and his first time homeowner hazing rituals.

My mom felt so bad for me today that she ordered a snow blower for me online (and she NEVER shops online) because she doesn't want me to have to wait until I get my tax return to buy one. And I think it was also because she worries about me way more than she should. She's paranoid that I'm going to freeze to death shoveling snow because I'm stubborn and won't take a break even though "the news is saying you shouldn't be outside in this weather for more than 30 minutes or you'll suffer from frostbite."

Anyway, I'll be paying her back once I get my tax return and I hope like hell the darn thing works. She went with electric because she, "doesn't want me to have to worry about mixing gas and oil." Smh. On the flip side, it was a really nice thing for her to do. She knows I've been down more than usual, and this should hopefully help a little.

Watch though, I'll come home on Thursday, put it together and have it all ready, and the snow will stop - Murphy's Law. But you know what, I don't care because I am so beyond ready to not have white crap falling out of the air anymore. I had to excavate my back patio to get to the air intake pipe for my furnace (it had snow built up in the opening) today. The snow was seriously up to my thighs!

I understand and remember all too well that this is the type of winter I had as a kid - maybe not the bitter cold, but definitely the snow. I remember there being snow on the ground from October through most of March, and you know what? It sucked. I was done playing in the snow by the time I was 10 years old. This is not my climate. I'm thinking I must've lived in tropical locales in most of my former lives. LOL

message 41: by Suzanne (last edited Jan 28, 2014 10:56AM) (new)

Suzanne | 767 comments Stacy, I can totally relate. I'm pretty sure I have seasonal affective disorder but I've never been officially diagnosed or anything. I absolutely HATE winter. More than anyone I know. Watching the news is torture because they just go on & on about how bad the snow & cold is, and it gives me such anxiety. I can't sleep when they say we're going to get snow overnight. For the past 7+ years I lived in apartments and condos, and now I'm in a house which means I also have to shovel again. I hate it. I started crying the last time I was out there shoveling. Pathetic, I know. And everyone keeps saying "It's Chicago and it's winter! You should be used to it!" and stuff like that. But just because I live here doesn't mean I have to like it. I've also always hated snow ever since I was little! I hope the snow blower helps! We have one, but my dad still insists on shoveling in addition to using the snow blower. I know things could be much worse, and believe me, I'm very grateful to have a warm house and for heating and all that. But I'm completely miserable right now. And then that just adds to the other stuff I'm down about (being single, family drama, friend stuff, etc) which isn't helping!! But anyway... you are definitely not alone. I hope this winter is over soon!

Also, forgot to add, maybe I should be used to it by now, but this is the worst winter we've had in a long time! It's been way colder & we've already gotten more snow than our average, and it's still January! :(

message 42: by Stacy (new)

Stacy (stacymarie913) | 5567 comments Mod
It really is! I just had a conversation with our Ops Manager who keeps track of the snowfall. Another inch and a half and we'll be at the total we were at for the WHOLE season last year. Not cool when we still have 2+ months of this crap left.

And you know what, I'm right there with you on the crying part. I have wanted to cry more than once lately while out shoveling because I have no one to help me. I'm not asking my 8 year old to be outside helping me in sub or near zero temps. And I'm not asking my boyfriend to leave his kids at home and come over just to help me shovel. It really sucks.

And I totally get the "you should be used to it" comments and how you feel about those, because I feel the same way. We've been spoiled the last 15 or so years and it hasn't been like this. And I get anxious about the snow forecasts too. I don't have very far at all to drive for work, but all I can think of is that I'll have to be outside for another hour to hour and a half shoveling, AGAIN. And, I don't like knowing that my kid is likely going to have to be out and about in it either.

I'm trying really hard to not be a negative nelly, I know it won't last forever, even though right now, it seems like it will. Too bad I can't just hibernate until spring. :)

Bianca (bbollinger) | 761 comments So sorry you guys have to deal with all of that. I live in Texas, so I don't get too much snow, but I can understand how it can give people seasonal effective disorder. :( We had an "ice day" last month where there was too much ice for anyone to drive so a bunch of places closed down. It was nice to get to work from home that day, especially since it was a Friday, but by the end of the weekend I was so tired of the ice. Stores were closed, restaurants, and I needed to get out of the house. I had major cabin fever and even when I went to the grocery store everything was GONE because people took all the food to prepare for "icemageddon." And they couldn't restock until trucks could get on the road. So, while I can't really relate to snow, I do sympathize with you.

I think what I don't like about winter is all the food I consume and how little I make it to the gym. It's cold out! Who wants to go the gym when they can stay inside under the covers on the couch?! Haha. So it's been a major struggle getting my butt off the couch after work.

Ooooo so fun that you got contacted by a publicity assistant about reviewing a book!!! Did they tell you what book it is?! Hopefully that makes the snowy days more fun. :)

Icemageddon, LOL! They've been calling it Snowmageddon here. Ice sucks too. We've had a lot icy conditions because it's been so cold. I think last night they were saying with the wind chill, it would feel like 40 below outside. The kids are still out of school this week because of the temps. I get texts from one of the local radio stations about traffic accidents and backups and my phone has been blowing up with these notifications for the past few days. Crazyness.

I was totally planning on working out at home as a new year's resolution and I haven't done anything, unless you want to count all the snow I've shoveled. You can surprisingly work up a good sweat doing that. I saw an article yesterday that said our area has gotten 40 inches of snow just this month! *sigh*

On to more positive thoughts - YES! It was exciting to get that email. Here's the book: Ember Island: A Novel, it sounds really good. I love it when a book goes back and forth from past to present, intertwining the stories.
