I'm readingMe Before You. It had good ratings here and I need a good cry. I also wanted something that could help me put my problems in perspective. Quick read, interesting lead characters, although I feel like the supporting cast are fairly shallow.

Hi Caroline- welcome to YLTO. I read Me Before You last week. I thought it lived up to the hype. It was my first Jojo Moyes but won't be my last.I've started The Angel of Darkness. I enjoyed The Alienist last year so I have high hopes for this chunkster.
I finished up the third Dire Earth Cycle book, The Plague Forge and The Bees. I am in the middle of Chickens, Mules And Two Old Fools: Tuck Into A Slice Of Andalucían Life for my chunkster challenge and will be starting Scarlet for my next chunkster read. I'm also starting Bellefleur for a buddy read.

LOL, I too have groaning TBR Shelves, Cherie. Glad I could help!!!! =)
I finished Brimstone which is #5 in the Pendergast series. I really enjoy this series, but I have to say that Pendergast is obnoxiously turning into a Marty-Stu. I've started The Blade Itself. I'm so excited to start this book finally, and so far... woohooo!

Marty-Sue? The only thing I can find on Google for this is something about the twins that were Switched At Birth.
It's the male equivalent to a Mary Sue according to the Urban Dictionary.http://www.urbandictionary.com/define...

Ah, got it. I also book marked the Urban Dictionary! :)
Janice wrote: "I've started The Blade Itself. I'm so excited to start this book finally, and so far... woohooo!."i'm jealous. This one has been sitting by my bed for 6 months now.

I too am jealous! I keep moving it back and forth in my chunkster lists! I might have to think about rejigging it back again!
Never heard of that term Marty-Stu or Mary-Sue for that matter so I've learned something new today.
The Blade Itself isn't even on my chunkster list. I looked at possibly moving The Alienist to the next section so that I could fit it in, but it made my brain hurt too much. I decided to read it "just because". I will start The Alienist today or tomorrow. Wasn't someone wanting to do a buddy read with me on that one?
I just finished Fire & Flood-it was so good! I am now starting Daughter of Fortune for the May theme.
Mariab wrote: "I´ve added The Blade Itselfto my TBR list. Always finding new feed here! Most dangerous!"Most dangerous indeed! Gone are the days of a short list of maybe 10 in a notebook in my purse. Now I have 600+ on my GR's shelf.
Janice wrote: "I will start The Alienist today or tomorrow. Wasn't someone wanting to do a buddy read with me on that one?"That was me but I will have to give it a miss for now as I've pushed it back to my next section now!
Travis of NNY wrote: "Really enjoying Lucifer's Hammer"I know I read this years ago, but can't remember a thing about it. Seeing some of these old sci-fi titles come around again makes me want to pick them up and read them again. Are you "enjoying" it in audio and if yes, who is the narrator?
The Sherlock Holmes Theatre. I was searching for a different audio book but I picked this up on Overdrive from the Free Phillidelphia Library last night and started listening. It is a hoot if you know the Sherlock Holmes stories. If not, it might be hard to keep up with what is going on. As a play, I have heard worse.

I read it when we had Hale-Bopp comet. I recall people saying that there were similarities between it and the book. I recall some of the story. I hope you enjoy it Travis. It makes you think what would happen if the earth was hit by a comet.
Marc Vietor is the narrator Cherie and I think he's doing a good job.The comet isn't so scary its the human decisions and actions for survival.
Gavin wrote: "lol no, I finished it."Wow - in two days. My hat is off to you. I made it through half way and quit. I did read The Brothers K all of the way through. I did not like it that much, but I stuck it out. Someday, I am going to try The Idiot.
A brief update have made it yo part 2 of boys life and while very much enjoying it, the more u read the more puzzled I become on how events are going to come together and where its all heading
Hi everyone, Here I am coming back after a few CRAZY months... Just finished Life After Life by Kate Atkinson.(best GR historical fiction 2013) Interesting premise, but I didn't love it as many readers did.
Just started The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert. So far I'm enjoying her writing style.
I finished The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt last week and adored it! Fantastic characters- simply stood up and walked off the page to greet me.I started The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton today. So far, I am really liking it.
Gavin, @ msg 1084 The Brothers KaramazovThe The Brothers Karamazov is one of my favorite books of all time. I hope you enjoy it, too. : ) I think you have to get into a certain mindset to love the great Russian authors.
Connie wrote: "I started The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton today. So far, I am really liking it. "Remember there's a buddy read thread on that one to check out. really hope you enjoy it.

I heard if you liked [book:The Goldfinch you will like The Luminariestoo- ( which is why the Luminaries is off my TBR... The Goldfinch and I did not get along!). Happy reading.
Thanks for the heads up, Rusalka.Marnie, I am so sorry to hear that you did not enjoy The Goldfinch. I do see parallels in writing styles, etc. between the two authors. Something else will come along that you will love.
Just bought Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline on a whim.
Connie - glad you're enjoying The Luminaries. It is one of two favorite books I've read this year. Marnie - I hope you decide to give it a try someday - the storyline is great, the writing is fantastic and the characters are fleshed out extremely well. I haven't read The Goldfinch and probably won't, based on the storyline and summary...
Is anyone finding the length of this thread unwieldy? If so, one of the moderators can start a new one. Or for the matter, anyone can... it's just that it takes a moderator to close the current thread.

Sounds like a plan! We've obviously all done a lot of reading this year!
I had to abandon the audio Twelve Years a Slave - I tuned out then I had no idea what was going on. I'll watch the film at some point! So I have gone for something light a fluffy on the audio front with Three Bedrooms, One Corpse which is book 3 of the Aurora Teagarden series. I've not read 1 and 2 though so hopefully that isn't too much of a problem. I normally like to start a series from the start but the audio available on my library app only start the series at that point. I also finished Temeraire which I thought was superb. It reminded me a little of the Iron Druid Chronicles not for the story line or writing style but because the star of the show was not a human but a talking dragon. I need to read the rest of the series now! So now on to my final chunkster of Mickey's with The Desert Spear
Sarah wrote: "I had to abandon the audio Twelve Years a Slave - I tuned out then I had no idea what was going on. I'll watch the film at some point! That's a shame Esther - I will have to see how I get on with them.@Travis - I think you will probably need to read Desert Spear before Daylight War. I know the feeling though of trying not to buy any books until the ones owned are read! The ones I have would probably see me through for another year without buying anything!
I finished To Kill a Mockingbird, which I enjoyed but somehow expected more of. I'm now starting Outlander for the chunkster challenge.
Rusalka wrote: "Maybe we should start a new thread anyway in July, for the second half of the year."Okay, let's do that. I was just concerned because I had heard that people using the app for phones, tablets, etc had a more difficult time if the thread was really long.
Finished The Temporary Gentleman
