Video games are a beloved past time. A lot of us grew up falling in love with characters of all kinds as we played hours and hours of our favorite console. One of the oldest and most beloved gaming franchises is Mario! Originally known as Jumpman, Mario jumped into our hearts back in 1981 with his first role in the arcade game Donkey Kong. Since then he's gathered a great deal of quirky friends and enemies through the vast series of adventures and sporting events. This challenge is dedicated to the lovable characters we all know and love.

Challenge:
Read a book that fits each character below:

Mario: Mario is known for his red overalls, his brotherly team, his love of spaghetti and his need to save the princess. Read a book where the main character is a plumber, has a brother, is Italian, or saves a damsel. You could also read a book with a Red cover or a title that starts with M.

Luigi: Luigi is known for his green overalls, living in his brothers' shadow, and his cowardly nature. Read a book where the character is a good sidekick, lives in the shadow of another, or is extremely cowardly. You could also read a book with a green cover or a title that starts with L.

Princess Peach: Princess Peach always seems to be kidnapped by the bad guy of the week, but she looks good while she does it! Read a book where a girl (or guy) is always getting themselves into trouble or is extremely high maintenance (or both!). You could also read a book with a peach on the cover or in the title.

Princess Daisy: Princess Daisy, while forced into dresses, is quite the tomboy. When she's not being kidnapped by aliens, she's out playing sports and causing a ruckus. Read a book where the main character is sporty and boyish (female or male). You could also read a book with a daisy on the cover or in the title.

Bowser: Bowser, while being a villain, really has a heart of gold and can be found helping the good guys once in a while. Read a book where a character has a change of heart and switches sides. You could also read a book about a hostile takeover since Bowser's true goal is to take over the Mushroom Kingdom.

Bowser Jr.: Bowser Jr. is the pride and joy of his father. As the only child of Bowser, this kid is a real handful. He's spoiled rotten and whines constantly when he doesn't get his way. In the end, all he really wants to do is make his father proud and become the heir his father hopes for. Read a book where the main character is an only child, is spoiled rotten, or needs to fulfill a legacy left for them.

Toad: Toad is Princess Peach's most loyal servant. Read a book where a character is extremely loyal or where a character serves another. You can also read a book with a red or white cover (or mixed!).

Toadette: Toadette is nice, sensitive, and enjoys the company of others. She's incredibly sociable, but can act childish at times. She loves animals and demands attention. Read a book where the main character is a child (or acts like one) or a book about animals of any kind.

Yoshi: Yoshi has become Mario's loyal pet dinosaur, although there are debates on who actually raised who. Read a book about a dinosaur or about a loyal pet (or about animals in general). You can also read a book with a rainbow on the cover as Yoshi's come in all colors under the sun.

Birdo: Birdo is a classic rich girl. She wears her diamond ring and her shiny bow wherever she goes with confidence and pride. She's overly flirtatious and extremely feminine. Read a book where the character is spoiled, rich, or overly girly.

Wario: Wario has many traits, but not a single one is good. He's obese, dimwitted, hot tempered, greedy...the list goes on. Read a book where a character is driven by greed or extremely dumb or hot tempered. You can also read a book with a yellow cover or a title that starts with W.

Waluigi: Waluigi is your typical class clown. He's overly confident, easily angered, and is the comic relief in any situation. He's also known to cheat and taunt any opponent he comes across. Read a book where a character is a class clown, comic, or anything else funny. You could also read a book with a purple cover.

Rosalina: Rosalina is a beloved Queen of the stars. She is always surrounded by her loyal subjects, the Lumas. She's wise, kind, helpful, humble, and holds the knowledge of the universe. Read a book where a character is a Queen, queen bee (popular), or is incredibly smart. You could also read a book with a crown or wand on the cover.

King Boo: King Boo loves to scare everyone! However, he's so shy that he can only put on his scary face when his target has his back turned. Read a book where a character is overly shy or extremely scary. You can also read a book about ghosts.

Koopa Troopa: Koopa Troopa is a loyal foot soldier. He does whatever he is asked, even if it means falling off a cliff to his doom. Read a book about a soldier or a loyal minion. You could also read a book with a turtle on the cover.

Dry Bones: Dry Bones is just that, dry bones. He's a walking skeleton and he's indestructible. Every time you knock him down he just gets right back up. Read a book about the undead or about a character that keep on trying no matter what. You could also read a book with a skeleton on the cover.

Kamek: Kamek is your typical wizard. He's got all the good abilities: teleportation, pyrokinesis, growing large, and of course flying on a broomstick. He's also the only minion to ever question Bowser's tactics. Just like any wizard, he thinks he's too smart for his own good. Read a book where a character is a wizard, is obnoxiously full of himself, or has magical abilities. You could also read a book with a scepter on the cover.

Goomba: Goomba is a mushroom turned active. He turned on his home, the Mushroom Kingdom, to become a minion of Bowser. Good thing he's so easy to beat. Read a book where a character turns on someone or stabs them in the back. You could also read a book with a mushroom on the cover.

Piranha Plant: Piranha lives in the sewer pipes and pops up to hurt anyone that comes near his home. He often spits fire or just eats you alive. Read a book about plants or a bout a character that overly protective of his home/town. You could also read a book with a piranha on the cover.

Lakitu: Lakitu has the luxury of riding on a cloud. Even though he's a bad guy, he doesn't seem to like competition and is often found helping the enemy. You can find him referring sports games, holding the flag for races, or even practicing his camera skills in Mario's adventures. Read a book where a character holds a bunch of different jobs, is an artist of some kind, or helps the enemy. You could also read a book with a cloud on the cover. (hide spoiler)]
