I would think that there should be a way in the import script progamming to automatically add the missing periods in Author names, because "onix ingram" specifically but I think I have seen it from others, just keep dumping new Author names with the period(s) missing.

Oh Goodreads PTB for import scripts.....
Oh Goodreads PTB for import scripts.....Not sure what to do here. [Well aside from adding the book without the ASIN, but I think the issue needs to be addressed not swept over. There should be an available ASIN for the record to be created.]
This book: Little Witch shows the ISBN-10/13. Which matches the Amazon page for the Kindle edition ASIN: B00E25G3G4
Normally the imports have been showing both ISBN/ASIN and you can go in open and save the record with the ASIN showing to overwrite the duplicate of the ISBN/ASIN. However on this one if you edit, nothing shows up for ASIN.
There is weird changes from ONIX overwriting things, one of the things being the book type was changed from Kindle to Unknown Binding. It appears to have add the ISBN, don't know if it over wrote an ASIN or it was blank. If you search WorldCat it shows an ebook with the ISBN from Skyhorse Publishing. So I'm not overly inclined to change this book to an Amazon Kindle, as I think an ebook with this ISBN does exist outside of Kindle land. So I went to add a new book for the Kindle version with the ASIN. It won't let me save, saying that ASIN is in use already. If you search by ASIN it opens this record. I can't see the ASIN, but clearly something has been mucked up.
Screenshot of my ebook edition copyright page is at https://d.gr-assets.com/photos/140927... ; but, the isbn showing when I bought on Barnes and Noble site is 9781626363588 so I think the copyright page accidentally kept the paperback isbn noted at publisher page for this book http://www.skyponypress.com/book/?GCO... (you may have to click " detailed into" to have isbn show). Which clearly shows paperback is 1616089644 (isbn13 9781616089641) and ebook is 9781626363588.

Still would like to add the Kindle using the ASIN.
Is Skyhorse the publisher? As the Onix removed that as well.
What a mess.
Can we flag all of Onix's changes ;) Will that get any attention.
I was adding links to publisher page and a screenshot as you were posting--that link (you have to click "detailed info") or screenshot should be showing what the onix import should have brought in.

Is everyone else seeing an increase in the number of imports with "Not Avail" as the publisher? Onix ingram seems to be the culprit. How can they not know who the publisher is? Aren't they......in the BOOK BUSINESS?

Additionally, the descriptions on those three books all have the same formatting issue: punctuation (maybe just apostrophes?) has been replaced by "OCO" for some reason.

You know, it seemed like a good idea, now that Amazon owns Goodreads for Goodreads to automatically import Amazon's data, but it turns out Amazon's data is horrible. The vast majority of the Librarian work I've been doing lately is fixing editions with missing or outright wrong data that was imported. I kind of miss the days when only human beings could add books.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but the Amazon import seems to have overwritten the ASIN information on the Kindle edition (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...) of The Twelve Dates of Christmas: Dates 1 and 2, so now the book is labelled as a Kindle edition but bears an ISBN instead of the originally listed ASIN.

That sort of import was fixed several months ago, so it doesn't happen any longer. Unfortunately, the fixes are not retroactive.

I can't see the dates for the import's changes anymore, since Philip fixed the edition, but I'm 99% sure that the import made the changes this month. I only shelved the book on September 2, 2014, at which point in time it had the correct ASIN information. (That's the only way I would have found it, since I search by ASIN and confirm before shelving.) But by today, that information had been overwritten by the import.

The import changed the ISBN (and thus "hid" the ASIN) on Nov. 19, 2013: https://www.goodreads.com/book/edits/...
Any later edits were due to that problematic one.

ah, ok, thank you! Glad to know it won't be happening anymore.
I think when Amazon has a blank in the number of pages field, that gets imported as ZERO rather than as a blank.

I also frequently see 0 as the number of pages for ebooks. I see it frequently enough that the problem seems likely to be in more import feeds than just the Amazon one. (Or there are a lot of 0-wielding librarians out there.) Some ebooks don't have listed/standard page numbers, but my understanding has always been that the field should then be blank, not 0.
amazon_kcw should be prevented from importing these shouty titles.

I have to say, whatever is importing Nook books (or whatever starts with a 294- isbn) is doing a terrible job.

I'm seeing a lot of books (RECENT books, like the past few days and weeks) being imported with only ISBN 10, not ISBN 13. Example, note the book is from 2012 so not exactly ancient.

The imports should be doing the work of importing both ISBNs. Librarians shouldn't have to.
And another example, from amazon_kcw:

Apparently there is a large import of settings and characters which is auto-populating those fields. If this is correct, it's destroying the database.

Some image uploading and re-iploading from Amazon. If I re-upload the picture myself will that prevent the script from swapping re-uploading the cover?

It's better to revert the first image change that was post-publication, which I have done.

#449 - That would be something to post in the feedback group, it is quite possible that the import script did not do this, but that the import data had an error in it. If the title had been edited by a user since the original import this would never have happened, since imports do not overwrite user data.

Edits from users have higher priority than imports, so they should not be overwritten by them.
