Is this a series?
Arenda wrote: "That is not a series according to the GR definition of a series. Quoting the Librian Manual: As a general rule, a book is only part of a series if that designation would apply to all editions of a work.Thank you Arenda, I had not absorbed that piece of the definition. Now I know :)
I came across this:https://www.goodreads.com/series/2195...
I'm not sure if it's a series according to the GR definition.
Should we treat it as 'universes in common'?
The books are listed here: https://www.mlrbooks.com/ShowSeries.p...
and you can find them with random numbers by search
https://www.goodreads.com/search?q=Sh...
If it's not a series:
Is the correct approach creating a listopia for it and deleting the series?
If so, should the book titles have the 'series' name in parenthesis?
Thanks
This one doesn't seem to have a theme: https://www.goodreads.com/series/5256...(The Best American Short Stories Series)

Most of the Kindle Universe's have series listings. From my understanding of what a series is considered on GR, they are a series--they share a universe, characters and probably even plot backstory. I just don't think they'd be numbered, but this doesn't appear to be.

Is this considered a series or a publisher’s imprint by GB? It is included in the titles of nine books on GB:

Borderline, but looks like it barely qualifies. (Applies to all editions of each work, have a lot more in common than a theme.)

And if so, what should it be called? It doesn't have a series name currently.

It appears to have common characters. If there is no official title, we usually use the title of the first book.

Are the works of one author considered a series if they are graphic novels. https://www.goodreads.com/series/6151...Also it looks like "conventional" copies of And Then There Were None are showing on this series.

Not unless they all feature common characters, but those may all be Poirot books.

And Then There Were None is definitely a standalone novel (I've reread it recently) I'm guessing that someone has combined a graphic novel version of this book with the others quite recently? I couldn't find it before, but I will have another look now.
Carol ꧁꧂ wrote: "I'm guessing that someone has combined a graphic novel version of this book with the others quite recently?"Indeed. There was also a Sparknotes edition combined with the actual books. I've separated that one.
And it would have taken some effort to combine them, due to the number of works on Agatha Christie's page.
The graphic novel adaptations all did have the adapter as primary author when I earlier worked on Agatha Christie. Maybe someone has added a regular edition (with Agatha Christie as primary author) to the graphic novel adaptations, which could have leaded to both showing on the combine page of Agatha Christie.

Thanks Arenda. I don't feel confident to separate these - there are so many! I have have never done this before & don't feel I want to start with a book as popular as this one.
I will remove the series designation because as I say, the original is a standalone novel.
This series also contains Endless Night (standalone)& at least one Miss Marple novel, possibly a Tommy & Tuppence as well.I have just removed & then there were none from the series, but haven't corrected the numbering.
Carol ꧁꧂ wrote: "someone has combined a graphic novel version of this book with the others quite recently"I have separated the graphic novel adaptations: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...
(And looking into other adaptations, play, easy reader etc. and also separating those).

Thank you Arenda!
Just wanting to check before I act;https://www.goodreads.com/series/2190...
I asked a couple of members of one of my groups more familiar with Jane Aiken Hodge's work than I am.
Books 1 & 2 Definitely a series by GR standards
Book 3 From the same family but several generations later. To me this is the same as when I asked about 2 Georgette Heyer books. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Book 4 I can't see a connection
Book 5 (which I have read but a while ago) This is a standalone, Hodge may have just reused the Purchas/Purchis surname. Definitely set in England rather than America.
So what I am going to do is delete 4 & 5 just want to make sure it is ok to delete 3 as well.
Nonfiction series, and I'm often on the fence with these. Still, it looks as if it should be a list instead.https://www.goodreads.com/series/1803...

OK, I am just going to remove 4&5. I'm fairly sure 3 shouldn't be part of the series - but not sure enough to remove.
Moloch wrote: "is this?https://www.goodreads.com/series/1598...
I'm not sure"
I'll vote no. Its a book & part of a book.
thank you, 641 deletedanother one: can we treat this as "a series"?

There is certainly a 'character' in common ;)
wouldn't that be more a list than a series? https://www.goodreads.com/series/6326...(if anyone is up to transforming it into one then I'd be fine, won't have time for that atm)
Moloch wrote: "bump 643the new format sucks big time, by the way"
I'd vote no. How can parts of the Bible become a series if published separately?
Corinne, Elizabeth, Lg sorry I'm just not sure (but Lg that cookbook at the end of your series - surely that doesn't belong!)
Is this a series?https://www.goodreads.com/series/218405
only first two maybe, the rest are unconnected

To me that looks more like an imprint for the first 2. I don't speak the language for book 4. I'd vote Book 6 definitely not, but get another opinion on the others.
& I would like a second opinion on thesehttps://www.goodreads.com/series/1024...
As far as I can tell, no common characters or universe.
This book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... seems different to the others in this series. The other books' blurbs mention characters named either Campbell or Baird where this one doesn't.
Thoughts?

Ok, based on rivka & a super's comments in this thread I will delete the first series.
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
The other one where it is just one book I'll leave unless someone posts who has read the 6th book.
#649 that sounds to me more as if the anthologies should go into the series of the specific authors because that would be where they belong to.

nope
I still ask you about https://www.goodreads.com/series/2034...Since it's a very, VERY popular book, I'd like to be sure in case I delete the "series".
Thanks

Hi Sarah
This thread is more for librarians who have come across series that shouldn't be series & are looking for advice before deleting. I would start a new thread if I was you. :)

Listopia can be used to create a list of an imprint/publisher's series.
