message 1: by Moloch (new)

Moloch | 3975 comments Many books from many different authors

https://www.goodreads.com/series/9859...

but it has 200+ books so I though better to ask

Thanks

message 2: by Eva (new)

Eva | 14 comments Apparantly it is the "Library of America" series :)

message 3: by Moloch (new)

Moloch | 3975 comments "Series" meaning in the Goodreads definition:

https://www.goodreads.com/librarian_m...

I'm quite sure this series should be deleted, but again, it has many books so I leave for rivka or other superlibrarians

It's not a series, but an imprint. And it's gone.

message 5: by Scott (new)

Scott | 9055 comments I guess you'll be wanting to get rid of this one as well, then:

https://www.goodreads.com/series/1141...

message 6: by Emy (new)

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments #5 looks like it to me, but given the length, do you want to create a fixed Listopia list for them first? (You or a Super can lock the list so no one else can add to it). Make it clear in the description that it is specifically for the editions published in this imprint by this publisher, etc...

message 7: by Scott (new)

Scott | 9055 comments Here's a Listopia for it, but I don't know if it's fixed:

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2...

message 8: by Emy (new)

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments Looks like it to me - I see "This is a static list." on the right now :) You can still add / edit it so if you find strays don't panic :P

message 9: by Scott (new)

Scott | 9055 comments Oh, I didn't notice that. Is there any point to voting on such lists? What effect would it have?

message 10: by Emy (new)

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments None - they are just records which record a specific edition. Series take all editions, which wouldn't work here.

Got it.

Moloch | 3975 comments All these "serieses" by Tolstoy: delete or not?

https://www.goodreads.com/series/list...

Monique (kadiya) | 1097 comments Moloch wrote: "All these "serieses" by Tolstoy: delete or not?

I'd say no. They look like they are connecting a book that was broken up into parts. We do use the series function for those.

message 14: by Moloch (new)

Moloch | 3975 comments Hmm. I don't like it very much, because here https://www.goodreads.com/series/1130... it looks that the "series" groups all the editions split into 2 parts (while here https://www.goodreads.com/series/1130... it seems to make more sense)

But ok, I won't do anything unless rivka comes and says otherwise

Thank you!

message 15: by Paula (last edited Jan 16, 2014 07:25AM) (new)

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments There is precedent to using the series function to link vols of works together, I am just trying to find the topic where it is discussed

Edit 2: The linking of vols is to link an complete edition together so the series here I think need either deleting or re arranging so all the vols that complete the edition are linked together

How do I make a list static?

Re 16: Gone.

Ellie [The Empress] wrote: "How do I make a list static?"

You ask a super for assistance. And only qualifying lists will be made static, so no user-added best books list, for example.

This is an imprint (publishers series) of sci-fi book, you can see the covers are similar. is it possible to be made static?

Re 23: It seems that all editions of each work are part of this series, so yes, barely.

24, yes, for similar reasons.

message 27: by Empress (last edited Apr 24, 2014 02:43AM) (new)

Empress (the_empress) ?

https://www.goodreads.com/series/1163...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_Books

Laser Books was a line of 58 paperback science fiction (SF) novels published ... Harlequin Books. ..... They were numbered as a series, though each was a standalone novel. All the covers were painted by Hugo Award winning artist Kelly Freas.

They appear to have a shared universe. Standalone just means they have no order.

message 29: by Ayshe (new)

Ayshe | 3084 comments What about this and this?

message 30: by Moloch (new)

Moloch | 3975 comments The first one ("Penguin Great Loves"), I took the liberty of deleting it: it had everything from Virgil to Casanova, from Scott Fitzgerald to Kierkegaard, so definitely NOT a series per Goodreads policy

I'm unsure for the second, maybe yes, but I leave to others to decide

message 31: by Tytti (new)

Tytti | 173 comments I think this is not a series, either:
https://www.goodreads.com/series/1003...

message 32: by Nina (new)

Nina | 426 comments I'd say "yes and no".
The series is created by the publishing house Peirene...

message 34: by Emy (last edited May 16, 2014 12:48PM) (new)

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments #19 - made static. Can you check to make sure though, please? :)
#29 - Agree with Moloch on Penguin Great Loves. The Best American Short Stories IS a series because all editions of a volume will be in that series.
#31 - Imprint therefore all editions of the work will NOT be part of the series.
#33 - Series as all editions retain their place in the sequence.

rivka | 45177 comments Mod
No. It's just a reprinting of the Holmes stories in some publisher's order.

message 37: by Moloch (new)

Moloch | 3975 comments rivka wrote: "No. It's just a reprinting of the Holmes stories in some publisher's order."

Deleted then. Based on this response, is the series in post #33 legit? https://www.goodreads.com/series/9237...

Because it doesn't seem that the division in "30 books" was planned by the author (I don't have this structure in my own edition)

message 38: by rivka, Former Moderator (last edited May 22, 2014 02:31AM) (new)

rivka | 45177 comments Mod
But it does seem to be a generally accepted (and presumably publication order) sequence. It may not be on every edition, but it seems to be consistent among multiple publishers.

message 39: by Emy (new)

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments Clarification questions:

1. Publication order = Good
2. Author specified "reading order" = Good
3. Order decided by a publisher just because = Nope - Listopia
4. Complete Works series = Nope (unless universally agreed) - Listopia

Or am I completely off there?

rivka | 45177 comments Mod
Sounds about right.

message 41: by Empress (new)

Empress (the_empress) https://www.goodreads.com/series/7215... ?

I think it should be moved to the main series and deleted: https://www.goodreads.com/series/7375...

rivka | 45177 comments Mod
No, it's better separate.

I took a look, but I don't know enough about it. It's not an obvious non-series.

?"

A series like the Time Life series(es) that exist on specific topics.

message 50: by Monique (new)

Monique (kadiya) | 1097 comments As for #45, Wikipedia says this about it:

"In 2009, Semiotexte returned to small-format books with the Interventions series..."

Imo, it's halfway between an imprint and a series. Some books were apparently written specifically for it though.
