I thought that book was hilarious; there are scenes I will never forget!

I am struggling to finish The Quest. I read a little, put it down, and just don't want to go back to it!

I struggled with it too. It took over a month for me to accomplish reading it. The opinions expressed through the character Markus were all too familiar and tread worn to me. I will say that I found a little light near the end of the story.
Amsterdam by Ian McEwan......actually listened to this as an eaudio and really enjoyed it.... possibly more than I would have reading it, but think I would like to read it again as an ordinary book because there is a lot of 'relationship' miscommunication that could be worth dwelling on at a slower pace.

Amsterdam by Ian McEwan.....listened to this as an eaudio and will probably follow up by reading a print copy because there are a lot of undercurrents to absorb......
August Is a Wicked Month tried and failed to hold out until August to read it. 2* but I can see the appeal + it was a quick read.
Just finished Queen Margot by Alexandre Dumas. This is one of his three in the 1001 combined list, but was not kept in later editions as the other two were (Hunchback of Notre Dame and Three Musketeers).

Yeah, although little happens plot-wise, it got a grip on me after a while. I read it a couple years ago; great pandemic-time story and I'm sure I'll never forget it.

The War of the End of the World by Mario Vargas Llosa. It's set in the outback of Brazil (the sertao) but written by a Peruvian.

That was an interesting book. I had never read any history regarding the plight of refugees inside Europe.

Yes, me neither. It was really interesting and I would love to read more.
