First in Line (1)

Sunday 10/6/13

Lauren -

Stephanie -

Sorry I am a little late, my father is in the hospital, so it has been hectic. But there is always a good side, while I spend the day at the hospital I read ALOT! Not that that is new, I usually read 1-2 books a day.
Since all this is going on, I will not be able to volunteer for Captain.
Jennifer those are all great names I think my favorite is FIRST IN LINE.
Here are a few to add to the list:
Book Munchers
Spine Crackers
Soul Readers
Between the Lines
I look forward to playing!

Unless Lauren or Lindy want to I'll volunteer to be captain if everybody is ok with it?

Sorry I'm so late to the party, I've been away at a three day work conference. Can't complain though as the hotel was fantastic :0)
I'm great with Jennifer being captain as the academic year is starting here in just over a week and I'll be away from the computer during teaching hours - don't worry though I will still be reading.
I love the name Soul Readers (or perhaps Sole Readers to fit in with team #1). I also like First in Line.

1) First and foremost please keep in mind that each person is required to read and review 2 books each week. All reviews MUST BE POSTED by Sunday and Thursday or I CANNOT roll our dice!
(Because of this I wanted to ask you ladies if at all possible we could try to have our reviews posted sometime on Saturday and Wednesday so we can be sure to get to roll our dice as soon as possible?)
2) Books must be at least 150 pages.
3) Anthologies are allowed but you must mention all of the stories in your review.

Reviews only have to be a sentence or two. Jenne said it has to be more than you liked or didn't like the book though.

Lindy we're all kind of feeling our way since this is the first round of this game but if I am not mistaken we can read anything we want to as long as it is 150 pages long and is either the correct book in a series ....like say I roll a 5 then we would all need to read a 5th in series book or we will be given an alternative choice each week if we don't have a book to fit the series number we land on we can choose the alternative instead.

There is a link of the possible alternate items (a different one will be called each time) in the links at the top of this thread.

Alternative - The author's first, middle, or last name to start with a "b"

Jennifer I will probably start it tonight or tomorrow morning, I will be posted by Wednesday.\
HAPPY READING LADIES!!

A wonderful novel. The story was really...you could relate to it and the characters. The characters were brought to life, they seemed to walk of the pages. The book was filled with wisdom, it was witty, and the description was so well done I want to go visit the Cape now.

Review: Very nice story of magic and mayhem. I love books that open up and your already pretty much into the action as was Second Chance with Ava coming face to face with a creature I would say would resemble a zombie and having a gorgeous hunk of man come rescue her out of the blue.
Only she later learns this strange man was once very much a huge part of her life in another land..one she must revisit for the sake of her people.

Book: Quicksilver by Amanda Quick
Finished: Oct 8th

Review:
Waking up in a mirrored room next to a dead man, Virgina Dean is rescued by the enigmatic and dangerous, Owen Sweetwater. It soon becomes clear that Virginia is the target of a serial killer murdering glasslight readers, and she and Owen will have to pool their resources to find the villain before it is too late.
Quicksilver follows a similar formula to the previous books Arcane books but it has its moments nonetheless.
As per Quick/Krentz's other couples, Virginia is a vivacious and determined heroine with an interesting backstory and Owen is intense and sexy although the nature of the Sweetwater family business and the nightwalker affliction could have been better developed. The attraction between Virginia and Owen is captivating and their chemistry sizzles.
The investigation into the glasslight reader murders is interesting and the climax is one of the more gripping in the series although the culprit is not all that surprising. Unlike the overly detailed descriptions of dreamlight in the previous trilogy, Virginia's glasslight ability and the idea of perceiving the afterimages of violence in mirrors is well-written and compelling. One shortcoming, however, is that the plot thread concerning Mrs. Bridewell's automatons lacks explanation and remains unresolved. Perhaps information on this will be forthcoming in the final installment.
Despite their formulaic nature, Quick/Krentz's books always manage to leave me smiling and satisfied, and Quicksilver is no exception.

oops ok. Thanks for letting me know Jenne! ;)

My Review:
This was a monster to read, but I loved every minute of it. I usually read books fast, near speed of light fast, but on a choice few I slow my pace to savor the taste. You really have to just to soak up the atmosphere of this dying world.
I don't want to review this in full since it will give way too much away, but it will twist your emotions about like a tilt a whirl. Read it and weep! I mean that in the literal. You will cry, scream and even bitch out this book, but it is very dearly worth the read.
And I need to get this out there, my GOD this man can write some damn fine characters.
