Jenne,
are re-reads allowed on this challenge?
How will set the time limit?
how is it scored?
Is there a page limit for the books?
Are Anthologies allowed?

Can I just watch? I don't want to hurt my team if I don't have time to read. (Bet you didn't know reading can be a spectator sport?)
Good questions and I was just coming back to add that so here we go:Re-reads are allowed
Books must be at least 150 pages
Anthologies are allowed but you must mention all of the stories in your review.
The time limit is just Monday and Thursday. Reviews must be in by the time the captain rolls the dice. Also to keep it simple I'm referring to Monday and Thursday US Central time. Captains may roll at any time on those two days provided all team members have turned in their reviews.
It won't really be scored it's all about board movement. So it's definitely a luck of the dice as well as making sure your reads are in on time so you don't lose a roll for the week.

I am glad there will be an alternate option because I really want to participate, but I don't want to read series out of order. For determining series number are you using the GR page? If a book is part of more than one series, can you use either series depending on which number fits, or just the first one listed?
I'm gonna go with how GR has it listed. If books are a part of multiple series as long as GR lists it you're good!
Jenne...can it be moved to moved from Monday to Friday or Sunday and thursday? The weekends give you more time to read that the weekend.
just a suggestion
just a suggestion
I do like the idea of Sunday and Thursday that way you can get a good chunk read on Sunday if needed. I think I will edit that. With this being the first time of this game and one of this nature I'm sure it'll take this round to work the kinks out :)
Good idea Ezi. Mondays are horrible at work usually so sometimes Monday night I don't get much reading done...then again sometimes that's all I have the energy for. lol

I can't take credit but it was the only reason Nika didn't sign up, so I told her I would ask to see if it would be moved, so she can sign up

What about series books that are double digits? If your team lands on say #23 and you happen to have a 23rd in a series book, can you read that? Or is it only limited to single digit series #'s? There's a few series I'm reading that I'm up into the double digits (Hamis Macbeth, Agatha Raisin, Carptathians, Phryne Fisher etc..,)
If you have one that's a #23 you're more than welcome to read it for spot 23. I know there's some out there that go on up in numbers like that.

or you can read a #2 or #3 :D
Book 23 will work with series like Dark Carpathians, Anita Blake, Dark Hunters, In Death...hmmm, I guess there is a number of series that this could work for

Yes there's lots of series with more than 9 books: Dresden Files, Ghost Walkers, Psy-changlings, Lucas Davenport, Goldilocks Catering, Virgin River just off the top of my head. .
Is there going to be a regular version of this as well...a one-book-a-week option so that readers who aren't so speedy can also participate?
Catherine I'm going to do a regular book a week one but not quite yet. I'm gonna run that one closer to the end of this one and we can run with it throughout the holidays.
Sounds interesting - I'll give it a try. We're going with Sunday and Thursday? No words in this one just books based on the series number of the book?
I am not sure I get the time frames. Is this right? The challenge starts on Monday the 7th... so anytime Monday we can roll and have to have that book read by Thursday. So as long as all reviews are in the captain could roll again Thursday at 2 in the morning... but if it takes until late Thursday night to get all the reviews posted no rolling until then. But if all reviews are not in by Thursday at midnight central time then we have to wait until Sunday.
If anyone needs a great place to track their series: fictfact.com is free to join. You can mark off which books in a series you've read so far and then bring up a list of your "next" books.
Dawn that's correct except the challenge starts the 6th on Sunday. I botched the dates lol. I know it doesn't leave a lot of time between teams being formed and the game starting but I'm hoping the game is over by Thanksgiving. If it's not we'll have a break for that week. If we have last minute stragglers coming in I have no problem with the last person to post their review rolling for the team. I'd prefer not to do that but I know based on WWGRF that there's almost always an at the deadline review. If that's the case I don't expect any captain to stay up late waiting to roll. But long story short lol I have no issue with what time a captain rolls so long as the reviews are in and it's the correct day to roll.
Please let us finish before Thanksgiving. I'm hosting this year--which means I'm cooking.
Plus, gotta have the house looking presentable

or at least skip that week and pick up again that Sunday if needed1st Night of Hanukkah is the night before Thanksgiving!
This is one of those times where it's beneficial for me being on the West Coast. If I'm team captain, I'm almost always still up at review deadline time which means no problem for me rolling at that point. Then again, if everyone is done early, I will not be getting up at the butt crack of dawn to roll on Sunday and Thursday. lol
Carrie wrote: "This sounds interesting, might wait to see what the alternative will be before signing up."Carrie they'll be super easy. The challenge of this game is getting done on time. I'll try to get a list up tomorrow of possible alternates. They'll be either a specific shelf, location, publication year, or a letter for an authors name. Things like that!

Thanks for the heads up - looking forward to seeing the list.

Thanks Jenne, this challenge might be just the thing I need to get my butt going again with my books.
On anthologies would it work for any of the series segments with in. For example Bite contains a 8.5, 1.5 and 5.1 so could I use it for 1, 5 or 8?
Just out of curiosity Jenne. How many spaces on the gameboard and how many dice are going to be rolled each week?
Anthologies will work for any # in the anthology. Sheila 75 spots and one dice. Is the board viewable to you?

That's what I'm thinking Carrie
Here's the link to the thread with the alternates listed. Please note they'll be randomly selected on Sundays & Thursdays. http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
So we are only rolling 1 dice each roll? I ask because the dice roll link is at 2 and I had assumed 2 at first.
I need to say this again to make sure I got it. if the number was 53. each team member could read 5th in the series, 3rd in the series or read the alternate?and the captains roll is for the team.
also on the alternate items, are those the actual shelves? I'm asking because a number of things might not work there? not your genre; read it already; don't have, etc.
Yes that's right Pat. Those are actual shelves but they all have thousands of books on them and shouldn't be genre specific. Based on what I saw on them it'd be easy to find something.
Jenne wrote: "Yes that's right Pat. Those are actual shelves but they all have thousands of books on them and shouldn't be genre specific. This is a team challenge that will require two books a week. The object of the game is to roll the dice (there will be a link to the website to roll) and move along the board. The first team to pass the finish line wins the game.
Captains will roll the dice by clicking here on Sundays and Thursdays once their team has completed their reads. You may not advance until all of the team's reviews are in. If a player or team falls behind the team has to wait until the next Sunday or Thursday to roll. That being said it's very important to finish and review your book on time.
How to pick a book:
If you land on single digit spot for example lets say you land on spot 5 then you have to read a book that's #5 in a series. For double digit numbers, for example you land on spot 48 you can read either a #4 or a #8 in a series. Stand alone books will count as a #1 or a #0. I don't expect anyone to read a series out of order and for people that don't really read series books that still want to play there will be an alternate option. The alternate option read will change twice a week as well and will be either a specific shelf, a location, a certain letter for the author's name, etc. I will create a separate thread for this so it's easily viewable to everyone.
Sign ups are open now through October 3rd. Teams will be formed on October 4th and the game will begin on October 6th.
There will be a separate thread for captains to post their place on the board after rolling and a separate thread for captains to post a link to the teams completed reviews.
In the event that the game is still going around Thanksgiving, we'll work out a break for that time.
Also a HUGE thanks to Brittany for designing the board! It looks great :)
Any questions please feel free to ask!
