R12: Team #2 ~ Read or PAIRish

Congrats on the upcoming Wedding NancyHelen, what date is it? And I've never heard of paper flowers for weddings, so I'm intrigued :)

Shelf coming up, ladies! :D

Read a book: in a series you've already started ~ book #2+
YAY! I'll be reading

As for the paper flowers, well, they're very me because they are all made of book pages. My whole wedding (which is on the 12th Sep) is book themed - no surprise there. I am using old books to make roses and then interspersing them with little teal coloured flowers (which I'm also making).
I am a member of Ravelry but I haven't been on there for ages, but I am definitely going to check the group out. It sounds like so much fun.

Steph - I'm a lefty too, but my brain has gotten used to translating over the years. Sometimes I get my left and right confused and I'm convinced it's because of all the times I have to switch things up in my head lol. As long as I drive on the correct side of the road, I'm ok!
JustMel - I try really hard not to explore too much, it's like GR, too many projects catch my eye and the queue is like tbr, never ending.
Finally started Dark Debt and it's fun. Ethan and Merit are a little nauseating, but other than that it's all good :)

Glad you're enjoying DD.
Glad you're enjoying those, Mel, I have #1 TBR.

Here we are - as promised. All of the roses are made out of different kinds of books. The plan is to make 200 of them so all of the bouquets and table settings will have them. And then 100 of the little blue flowers. I've still got a long way to go!

AH, my Mum and I have been laughing about that. We have a little production line going - she cuts and curls the petals and I stick them together. I told her we should start an Etsy shop. I think her silence meant that if she never had to curl another petal again it would be too soon...
As for where I learnt - I just found a tutorial on Pinterest and then adjusted it slightly so they looked how I wanted them too. Its a great way to use up old books.

That's a great idea. I hadn't thought of that! I was going to put a little tag on each bouquet saying something like 'if you want me, please take me' but it may be that more than one person per table wants it!

Oh man... Book 3 and I'm absolutely ACHING!!! I need to know what happens next! Please don't make me wait too long!!
At least there has been a bit (albeit a teeny tiny bit) of clarity about where Izzy's love life is heading, but there's still so much more to learn! Like why is Izzy having those dreams? (I think its because she's a reincarnation of the woman Zane loved.) Does Annabelle meet her match with Tim? And what the heck is wrong with Muriel??? Oh! And what are those blasted witches REALLY up to? And where in the world (in time?) is Granny? Smh... all these questions and no answers... *le sigh*
The mystery in these books takes precedence over the story and even though I'm a HUGE romance buff, I actually didn't mind. It made the romantic parts that much sweeter.
I'm really glad I came across this author. I most definitely will be picking up more of her works in the future.

This is not a complaint about the series but at book 11 I feel like Merit and company have been through enough drama to last a few lifetimes. As fun as it is visiting Chicagoland, I am ready for Merit and Ethan to get their happily ever after and I feel we are slowly getting there with a couple sweet moments at the end:(view spoiler) , Mallory and Merit are back to normal, and a wedding (yay)!
Dark Debt was a nice change from all the GP hijinks of the last several books. I enjoyed the story and as usual, plenty of action. There is a "mob" group called the Circle, Ethan's master comes calling, and we get a closer look at Navarre house and their problems (nice to know Cadogen isn't the only house with issues). Surprisingly, Morgan grew on me; I'm rooting for him and hope we see what happens with his house in the next book.
Random thoughts: The snark and banter still amuse me. I love that Mallory and Merit get some girl time. By the end I find myself pizza and a twinkie or something equally processed. I love the lack of relationship drama between Ethan and Merit but gag a little at how lovey dovey they are. Not enough of the Ombuddies. 11 books and very consistent covers!["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

I'm really enjoying Magic Shifts, hope you do too.
My opinion changed of Morgan too, Vivian. LOL /Merit's Dad

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I have 46% to go on The Invisible Library and I am 100 pages in to Days of Blood & Starlight so I will get there....

I want to be a librarian! The Library of the title is a place which exists between thousands of alternate worlds. The job of the librarians is to enter those worlds in order to acquire books for the library. Each world varies in how much magic exists in it, but what remains is the 'language' which only librarians know and which can be used to control aspects of all worlds. Irene is a junior librarian who is given a student to mentor, Kai, and then sent on a mission which turns out to be in a world contaminated with chaos. This means fae, werewolves and vampires live side by side with humans and the magic of the world has caused chaos there.
The mission very rapidly becomes mortally dangerous and Irene and Kai find themselves battling giant clockwork centipedes, cyborg alligators and, most dangerous of all, Alberich, a rogue librarian who has defected from the library and gained enormous power. Obviously there is something about the particular book Irene and Kai have been sent to acquire which is enormously powerful and which everyone wants.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and I loved the worlds and the different characters. I read it both via Kindle and the linked audio which was useful, but unfortunately the narrator sounded remarkably like the woman's voice on my Satnav. Nevertheless, it was a good read. I think there were a few 'darlings' that the author ought to have murdered (any writer will understand what I mean) because rather than being funny they ended up sounding drawn out, but I will most definitely be continuing this series.

@Mel, I just wanted to check - have you done reading

Now I need to get cracking on Laini Taylor...

This is one of my favorite series. The writing is witty, the story is completely engaging, and the characters are all super lovable.
Some random thoughts:
- I laugh out loud and make funny faces when reading these books, leading to many odd looks from others when I'm in public.
- This is one of the only series where explicit sex weirds me out.
- "Honey-bunny" is only used 3 times but it feels like much more. Maybe it's all of the "baby" endearments.
- Julie is growing into her own and has some awesome scenes.
- I really really like Roland.

See Msg 69 NancyHelen :)

Thanks Mel - I was pretty sure I must have missed it. I'll get that stamp claimed as well :-)

Series: Kate Daniels #8
Shelf: Series Catch-up

Review:
Oh, how I love this series. Kate & Curran are two of my favorite characters and they shine in Magic Shifts. This is first time fans really get a chance to see free-from-the-keep Curran. It just reminds you how well these two work together not only as a couple but as a fighting pair. Quite a trip to think of His Furriness livin' in the 'Burbs, but, from the sounds of it, he's made quite the home for Kate, Julie and himself. In fact, to Kate's surprise, they are not living quite as far from friends as she'd expected.
Kate's responsibilities have compounded throughout the series. She's gone from being responsible for herself + her friends + the pack and now + the city. To add to that, the couple takes on a new responsibility; one that I didn't see coming, yet makes perfect sense.
The couple's humorous banter continues to be one of my favorite parts of these books. As always, there were numerous scenes and quotes that made me laugh. I think my favorite this time was:
“Did they think I would throw a tantrum?”I am anxiously awaiting the next installment and "... the last night of the Werewolf Summer."
“Baby, you’re not the tantrum type. You are the scary-smile-and-stabbing type.”

- Julie is growing into her own and has some awesome scenes."
I never really expect explicit sex scenes from Ilona and Gordon, so it was a surprise but .... didn't weird me out. Gives another meaning to 'hot tub' :D
I agree (Julie).

And I had 3 or 4 library books come in this week on top of some I already had. Too many books, not enough time.
