Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Mirror Me (Mirror, #1) by Stephanie Tyler
Series: Mirror #1
Shelf: Same, but Different
Read: 9 Nov
Rating: ✮✮✮☆☆
Review:
Having thoroughly enjoyed Stephanie Tyler's Eternal Wolf Clan series, I thought I'd check out her new romantic suspense series Mirror. I wasn't expecting any sort of paranormal element, so I was happily surprised to find a touch of the supernatural - twin links, a tarot reader, a FBI agent with "the sight" and a watchful ghost.

The story told in this installment involves a woman on the run, currently in WITSEC; the Marshal charged with monitoring her; and the Marshal's brother, former Army MSgt/current merc-for-hire. Each of whom had a violent past and now work together to end the terror Kayla's been hiding from since childhood.
"We all get lost sometimes. Even you who can see well in the dark. Just because you can see doesn't mean you know where you're going."
There were parts of the story that didn't flow well for me and a few minor errors overlooked during editing, but overall I enjoyed the story and the characters.

The next installment, Rule of Thirds, tells Jacoby Razwell's story. We learned very little about Jacoby in this installment, but what we did learn has my curiosity piqued enough to continue on with the series. I'm looking forward to learning more about the man described as "a grifter, a vic and an FBI agent in WITSEC ... He's also the brother of a serial killer."

~JustMel~ | 573 comments Succubus Dreams by Richelle Mead

Shelf: Urban Fantasy
Date Finished: 11/09/15
Rating: 5/5 STARS

Oh book 3... This one was something else... So much deeper than the first two books... So much more emotion...

In this one, we see Georgina and Seth in very vulnerable emotionally raw states. I almost didn't make it through the whole book. I actually had to stop reading for a few days to get back to a mental and emotional mindset where I could finish. Despite the upheaval caused by this book, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was funny, erotic, and jam packed with mystery. We also meet new characters who make the story so much more interesting:

There's Tawny: the buxom dimwitted succubus who couldn't seem to catch a man if he threw himself at her for some reason
There's Niphon: Ok, so he isn't so new since he's the imp who bought Georgina's soul once upon a long time ago, but this aggravating son of a biscuit can't seem to leave her alone (even after finishing, I still don't know why)
There's Dante: who carries a big secret, but would love nothing more than to lose himself in Georgina's pants (him being hot is besides the point)
There's Vincent, Yasmine, & Joel: let's just call these friends of Carter's (kinda sorta) the Angel Squad.
And last but not least (since she plays a pretty big part), there's Maddie: Doug's sister who has THE biggest crush on Seth...

The drama and mystery really left me scratching my head though. I'm usually pretty good at figuring out what's going on before it's revealed, but this time I couldn't for the life of me figure this one out. So when the culprit behind Georgina's missing energy was finally revealed, I was very much surprised. Plus, the mixing of the different cultures (not to mention the flashbacks to Georgina's past) make for a very interesting read.

I found myself literally laughing out loud and getting thoroughly pissed right along with Georgina (thanks to Richelle Mead's AMAZEBALLS descriptive writing). She just knows how to drag me into her stories... I just can't seem to escape... But then again, I don't think I want to... :)

~JustMel~ | 573 comments Night Pleasures (Dark-Hunter, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Shelf: New2You
Dated Finished: 11/11/15
Stars: 5/5 STARS

So... Sherrilyn Kenyon... Now officially on my go-to authors list. Her writing style is superb and had me hooked from her introduction of Kyrian. (I hadn't even met Amanda yet, and I was already jealous of her... smh)

I started reading at work and (though I'm no stranger to romance or erotica) I had to thank my lucky stars for my dark skin. She had me blushing SO HARD!! (And wishing someone fitting his description was sitting next to me!) There were even points where I actually had to stop reading to calm myself down! Oh Sherrilyn... you have such a way with words... and they weren't even vulgar!!!

Now I've read many, many vampire books over time, but this one was surprisingly different. I really like this take on the vamp romance genre with all the different types of vampires. I also like that they fall into bad and good (debatable) categories, with the good guys only being able to fight the bad guys according to heir abilities. What I don't like (and like Amanda likes to say is so unfair) is the fact that the good guys can't team up and join powers. However, I totally understand why they can't. (It makes perfect sense... I promise lol) And I also love, love, LOVE an HEA (happily ever after for those who don't know) ending.

This was an awesome start to what I hope will be an awesome series by a totally awesome author. Looking forward to the hi-jinks of book 2!

Nancy (nancyhelen) | 151 comments Oh no! Am I right in thinking that the game has been won?

What am I going to do without my Bingo???? I have been introduced to so many new series and authors - my week isn't going to feel complete without the weekly call :-(

This week the call is Shelf #18 ~ 11 Nov: B-I-N-G-O
Read a book: written by an author whose first or last name begins with B, I, N, G or O

...however, I believe that this is a winning shelf for Team #9. They are still encouraging us to read so I am going to use this last call to get on with Kate Daniels #3 Magic Strikes (Kate Daniels, #3) by Ilona Andrews

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Hi ladies! Sorry I was MIA for a bit - was out of town yesterday and away from my computer.

Yeah, this shelf is a winning call for T9. I'm not sure what I'll read, but probably one of these two: Rock Redemption (Rock Kiss, #3) by Nalini Singh (Nalini Singh) or Unleashed by Shadows (By Moonlight, #10) by Nancy Gideon (Nancy Gideon)

~JustMel~ | 573 comments The Vampire's Mail Order Bride (Nocturne Falls, #1) by Kristen Painter

Shelf: Reader's Choice
Date Finished: 11/12/15
Rating: 5/5 STARS

This was such a sweet read with a beautiful HEA ending... I didn't want it to end. It was funny, romantic, and even had some action. There were sweet intimate moments without going to detail about the sex (although it was implied that there was a good amount of it going on...) that totally melted me into puddles of gooey mush... Being a Brooklyn girl myself, it was cool to see a fellow Brooklyn girl find her happy ending in an extremely unorthodox way. I absolutely loved it.

The characters were very well written and quite realistic despite the fact that they weren't human. The problems they faced were presented and solved in a totally believable way that brought smile after smile to my face. I love the idea of a Halloween themed town inhabited by supernatural beings... complete with a nightclub and a Thai restaurant.

I would definitely recommend this book to any of my fellow HEA lovers, and I will be adding the remaining books in the Nocturne Falls series to my ever-growing to-read list.

~JustMel~ | 573 comments His Obsession Next Door (In the Line of Duty, #1) by Cathryn Fox

Shelf: Coupledom
Date Finished: 11/13/15
Rating: 5/5 STARS

This was my first military romance and I have to admit that it was so heart warming and sweet, I'm definitely going to have to read more of the genre. I found myself smiling at how romantic (and naughty) the main characters were with each other, and talking to them as if they were actually with me (lol). The two main characters, Cole and Gemma, have known each other since they were younger and have always had feelings for each other. Those feelings stayed alive and well throughout their time apart and became even deeper as they spent time together as adults. They were so well written, it was easy to get engrossed in their story.

This was a very sweet, funny, sexy read, but it was also a lesson in letting go of the past in order to hold on to the future. It's also about understanding that it's ok to ask for help when you need to. Both great lessons. Which is why I would definitely recommend this to any military romance lover, HEA lover and anyone else who loves a sweet yet sexy read.

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments A Mad Zombie Party (White Rabbit Chronicles, #4) by Gena Showalter
Series: White Rabbit Chronicles #4
Shelf: B-I-N-G-O
Read: 15 Nov
Rating: ✮✮✮✮☆
Review:
Earlier this year, Gena announced that she would be writing one more book in her White Rabbit Chronicles trilogy. I, for one, was thrilled. The (previous) finale The Queen of Zombie Hearts left things in quite a state of unrest ~ (view spoiler) fans wanted to know more. While I rated QUEEN OF ZOMBIE HEARTS five-action-packed-stars, I too wondered ... How is the gang coping? How's Frosty? What's next for this group of slayers?
Real love never fails, never fades, and the greatest expression of it is giving.
A Mad Zombie Party is Gena's answer. And, after finishing it, I feel no lingering what-ifs or what-nexts. Ali sets the scene with a letter to readers, the bulk of the story is then told by alternating perspectives of Frosty and Camilla (Milla) and the ending is topped off with a letter from Kat. Wondering why exactly Gena felt Camilla, the ... most hated slayer in the state, was a necessary character in a special extra book that was to wrap up loose ends between Ali, Cole and their gang? Well, for that answer you'll have to read and find out for yourself. But, I will say that Gena's way some of her characters are able to "share" their experiences allows for a closeness that would otherwise be difficult to understand. Those shares allow characters to not only hear another's point of view but also experience it first-hand.

A big thank you to Gena Showalter for providing fans with this additional installment.

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments Sorry, life got in the way. Review ahead!

Throttle Me (Men of Inked, #1) by Chelle Bliss
Shelf: B-I-N-G-O
Date finished: Nov 14
Rating: 3 stars

Throttle Me is pretty much what the cover implies. You get a sexy tatted up bad boy who meets a "good" girl with a dirty side and they have lots of sex and fall in love. There is not much depth or plot involved, but if you're interested in lots of naked times with an alpha male, City and Suzy are a good stop.

I just wish Suzy didn't contradict herself so much. She is portrayed as a good girl who doesn't curse on one page, but the next she's calling her bff a "whore" and "slut". She talks about how great it is that her bff found her true love even though he is the opposite of her and doesn't look good on paper (e.g. has a criminal record) but she can't get over the idea that City is a tattoo artist with piercings. Really?

In the end, I don't think there was enough interest in any of the characters to continue with the series but it was an easy steamy read.
