R12: Team #2 ~ Read or PAIRish

Good luck getting a response but sounds like missing books on your shelf is a glitch that happens. Boo GR.

Great reading this week everyone. I have about 3.5 hours left to go on my book. I've been down with a rotten stomach bug the last couple of days and spent the entire day yesterday in bed feeling truly awful. Thank goodness my Mum was here to look after the kids otherwise I don't know what I would have done. But the fact that I felt too ill to even pick up a book speaks volumes for how unwell I was!
Still not feeling 100% today, but at least I'm up. I'll try to get my book finished tonight before the next call tomorrow and we can get a new stamp! How exciting!

It's REALLY bugging me. My OCDemoness is NOT happy. >:/ But, I did create a thread at GR Feedback and they're working on it. (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...) Hopefully they'll be able to fix it soon. I really don't want to have to go through every single series and remove/re-add books. No thank you.
Vivian wrote: "I never know what people will consider spoilers either. I'm weird about spoilers, sometimes I could care less but for some reason I'm on a no spoilers kick at the moment. I did pick up Dark Debt so..."
Yeah, I try to block those I think will spoil, but I don't always catch them when in a part of a series. And, I really don't like blocking my entire review just in case.
Oh yuck! Poor NancyHelen! Stomach bugs are horrible. Hope you're feeling better soon. Don't stress over the book, it's still early yet, rest and recoup!

I'm thrilled and I'll be reading my ARC of

FYI: Seems GR fixed the error I mentioned earlier. Color me floored, but thrilled! :D

Although this book kind of moved along and had an interesting premise, for some reason I just wasn't bowled over by it. Because I know Nora Roberts as a Romance/Chick Lit writer, I was curious to see how she handled the paranormal genre and it wasn't terrible. But I found it a bit repetitive and drawn out - the story in this book could easily have been told in about 100 pages less. I can see why - the author probably knew that she was writing a trilogy but still wanted each book to be substantial.
But perhaps the thing that irked me most of all was Quinn. I am all for feisty, pull-no-punches heroines, but there is a fine line between feisty and just plain pushy and I found Quinn to be way over the line to the latter. I wanted to like her but I just couldn't. Every time she opened her mouth I kept thinking of some of those irritating TV celebrities who make it their hallmark to be mouthy in order to be funny, but just end up being annoying. Perhaps my British sensibilities can't take it, but I honestly couldn't understand why Cal fell in love with her!
Sure, I'd like to know what happens and apparently the next book in the series is about Fox and Layla, which hopefully means less of Quinn! If that's the case then I'll definitely read it, but I will do my best not to throw my iPad across the room every time that woman opens her mouth!

I finished my read for this week and LOVED it! I'll post my review soon. It felt like it could be the finale ... I really hope it's not.

I'm running around like mad cleaning and prepping for hubby's return home from the field - YAY! So, I'm not in the mood to write up my review for my book today. I've got to share with the publisher and NetGalley, so I don't want to rush something. I'll write it up before the next shelf announcement next week.
Hope everyone has a great weekend! I'm gonna be chillin' with my Marine! BIG :D

We now have an updated BINGO card with a stamp on 'a bloody mess'.
[Our updated BINGO card can be viewed on page 1]
Woohoo!! :D

:D Thanks NancyHelen, I'm sure we will!

What is it with annoying heroines? I seem to be reading nothing but books with heroines who are throw-the-book-across-the-room irritating! The minute I met Meghan Chase, I was irritated by her. But I was willing to give her a chance. I know with a lot of YA books, the characters do develop and grow as the books goes on, but Miss Chase just seemed to remain a pain in the butt. She was pathetic, whiny and did very little to warm herself to me. And in so many situations, she just didn't think. I know she was only 16, but that doesn't give her an excuse to just blindly do what she wanted irrespective of the consequences. I mean, the fruit makes you feel giddy and sick, so stop eating the fruit (duh!). The Queen hates you and wants to kill you so stop goading the Queen (double duh!). Your best friend tells you not to go into the cafeteria because something bad is going to happen, so don't go in the cafeteria. You're half fae, so embrace it. But it took until about the last 30 pages of this book before she began to grow a backbone. *sigh*
The premise of the story was interesting enough, and I did enjoy the description of the fae and the Nevernever. And the plot itself was enough that I would be curious to know what happens, so the books wasn't a complete washout. But I just don't understand why a 16 year old protagonist means a childish, unthinking protagonist. There are so many books I can point out with MC the same age who show just a bit more sense (The Raven Boys immediately springs to mind). I so hope the characters improve in the second book, otherwise I probably won't bother.
Sorry, rant over. Oh, but the character who saved the whole thing? Grimalkin. He was just awesome.
Please, someone, point me to some non-irritating heroines? Perhaps I just need to get back to a bit of Maggie Stiefvater, or Women of the Underworld...

This was actually a really, really good book. I only gave it 4 stars because of the editing (holy question marks Batman!), or lack thereof, and the fact that the resolution of the mystery seemed a bit anticlimactic. This may have been the author's intention, but it fell a little flat to me.
I do like Izzy though. She is a feisty, funny, no-nonsense type of chick. She had me cracking up. I'm eager to see what'll transpire between her and Julius since I get the feeling he's got the hots for her. And what'll happen with her and Elias? (Ménage anyone?? Lol) I feel like she's going to end up having to choose at some point, but if I were her, I'd keep them both! (Selfish yes, but I dont care! Lol) AND I can't wait to see how she deals with Jasper (I've got some words for him myself, but I don't want to offend you ladies).
Anyway, there's sooo many questions left to be answered even though this story is a standalone. There are so many doors left to open and I intend to open them all (author permitting of course) :)

It's not a standalone. It's actually part of a series - Izzy Cooper. Playing With Vampires and Witches and Whatnots - An Izzy Cooper Novel are others. :)

Review:
Crucible Zero picks up right where Infinity Bell's cliffhanger left us hanging. So, if you haven't read books 1-2, this is not the review you're looking for. If you have, welcome to the spoiler zone.
"In somnis veritas ... In dreams there is truth."(view spoiler)
There's nothing worse that reading a finale and not knowing it's the end beforehand. That was the case for me and Crucible Zero . I'd assumed there would be more to come, so I gobbled up this book in less than 24 hours. Oh how I wish I'd taken my time. The good thing is I can always re-read the trilogy.
Still, while it's sad to know that this is the end for House Immortal, Monk did a wonderful job with the trilogy. Throughout it we learn about Matilda, her brother, and Neds' life on the farm; the history of the galvanized, the Houses and those who rule them; and their struggle to set right that which the Wings of Mercury experiment broke.
I highly recommend this unique and thrilling trilogy! My one recommendation: have all three books on-hand before starting - the cliffhangers are excruciatingly painful.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Also, agree with you, it is easier to read on the ereader than a paper book.

I also had that same frustration - I want to read but I also want to knit and stitch at the same time. Audiobooks have been a life saver.
At the moment, every night I am busy making paper flowers for my wedding (what on earth possessed me when i decided to make all of my flowers?) I tend to have my iPad set up in front of me and I read and stick petals together at the same time. It probably isn't enormously efficient, but it seems to work.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding. I think paper flowers are lovely. When I got married (a long time ago), my mom purchased real flowers but decorated the window sills with paper flowers. They looked beautiful and saved us so much money.

That does sound cool, Vivian - tell us more :) That might be something that would pair well with audiobooks?
I had paper flowers too and love that I've been able to keep my bouquet for all these yrs (going on 24).
I'm anxiously awaiting this week's shelf! I've got a ton I want to read, but keep holding off.

Muggins Magic Hang Out
Usually with a mystery knit, you get small pieces of the pattern at a time without pictures and the "mystery" is revealed little by little. It's fun because there is a whole group of people all doing it together and you can see everyone's progress along the way :)
I don't knit much and this pattern seems easy to follow. I really like this designer so I'm fairly certain I'll like it (and if I don't, I can just donate it).
This is last year's crochet mystery afghan from the designer, or the part I finished. I have a habit of starting projects and not finishing. Maggie Muggins Mystery Cal 2014
